Some thoughts:

 

- NX sounds intriguing, I wonder what the max number of controllers it can support is.

- When they say 32GB cartridges, do they just mean like those flash/SD cards in cameras?

- I wonder if, by being somewhere between WiiU and XboxOne in power, that it'll be really appealing to mobile developers. Perhaps their approach to create a console similar to iPads in power will encourage many developers will port their iOS and Android games onto the NX, increasing their library and pull as a primary gaming device?

I think I'm just hung on on these detachable controllers,  they just sound like the awful iPhone things that nobody buys.

 

You are being silly with the word, all controllers are detachable controllers, they're only using that word to specify that the horsepower is in the device, controllable via either built in controls or a pad.

If it's Tegra 1, then it's much, much more powerful than the last generation of consoles. If it's Tegra 2 (which nVidia have been silent about so I wonder if Nintendo actually paid for its development) it might be even more powerful than that.

Right.  I had no idea it was practical to have that sort of power for a handheld.  I know phones/pads are pretty good but they run down batteries like crazy if you run a proper game on them.

 

If Zelda is better on NX then I guess I'm in.

It's a daft idea.  A game you can only play properly at home on a handheld.   What if you never connect to a TV?

 

I can see the game running at lower specs when mobile.  Few polygons,  lower framerate maybe.

 

I'm not sure if you're reading my comments in the context of the Eurogamer article, if you are then you're making the wrong assumption. I'm expecting the NX to be an evolution of the Wii U where the controller is designed to be portable.

The game won't have dungeon/mini-game only mode when mobile.  That's daft.

I'm not entirely sure how they get away with it either, but I figure Nintendo can design the hardware around the idea that it'll be running all-out all the time, whereas phones and tablets tend to be designed to mostly be sitting around. And they can put a huge battery in there.

They wouldn't go with a chipset like Tegra if the base station was meant to be the seat of the console's power.

 

Also one of the things that counted against the WiiU was that it looked so much like a big games-playing iPad but it was completely dependent on being kept in the home, and they won't be in a hurry to repeat that mistake..

The Eurogamer article says power isn't a priority, I reckon they'll be going for the older Tegra - Wii U level stuff. I think we need to be realistic, it's not going to be a massively expensive device or a cheap device that matches more expensive devices in power and battery life.

Aren't Apple really pushing the power of batteries at the moment? Their phones are like 98% battery by volume, I can't see Nintendo having the industrial design experience to match that. I mean look at the 3DS, they really cheaped out on the battery there.

They've actually not increased in nominal capacity all that much over the years. A big Nokia battery back in the day was 1500mAh, I think the iPhone 6 is at about 1800 mAh now. The 6+ has a truly ridiculous battery pack in there.

I think you're getting hung up on the specifics of my comment, I'm suggesting that the mobile component offers a subset of the total experience. Do you think that having Nintendo merging the handheld and console divisions is 'daft'? Do you think that selling Super Smash Brothers and Hyrule Warriors on Wii U and 3DS is 'daft'? Also, why not offer an interesting counterpoint instead of tediously dismissing someone else's contribution as 'daft'?

I'm suggesting it'll be the full experience at possibly lower fidelity.   Sorry for responding to the specifics of your comment.  I thought it was daft.
