You ever tried to charge the Switch and use it on it's kickstand?

Well, mostly the USB C port location which doesn't allow for charging in desktop mode without a 3rd party solution, but you could probably pick the flimsy kickstand while you're at it.

So, you mean the decision to put the port on the bottom so that it enables you to put it in and out of the dock easily? How would the dock (the big main thing) have worked with the port anywhere other than on the bottom?

I guess they could have added another port, but that's cost...and how often is it really being charged while on the kickstand?

For a beautiful 90 seconds or so there I thought that had worked, but it must have been a fluke as it's still dodgy. In general using the joy-con grip thing seems to help, but not quite enough for it not to be annoying still.

Have you done the foam fix thing yourself? My repaired one is fine but my newer but around launch one is still a little iffy until I get round to fixing it!

Well yeah, but not often enough to say it was bad design to make the dock work easily in the first place a priority over it.

Well, if the above new stand was supplied with the console, then this point would be moot. But it wasn't, and I stand by it being a bad design that can only be rectified by throwing money at it.

How would you/could they have designed it differently then - so that it worked both with the dock and the kickstand?

As far as I can see, the only option would have been adding another port on the side - but they certainly don't have a lot of room to play with internally, and it adds cost to every unit for a relatively niche use case.

Are you sure there's not something on your PC? Maybe a dodgy bluetooth adaptor broadcasting?

They could have used a similar dock design to the Wii U/3DS. Separate connectors for dock and cable charging.

Not really, both of those docks just required a 'touch connection' for charging - the Switch has to pass the tv output signal etc as well - it needs a solid connection that's not going to get twisted and bent etc.

No they don’t. There’s a button on the docks that the GamePad/3DS push down on which pushes the pins up. Don’t know what you’re on about with the twisting and bending stuff.

I’m sure that Nintendo had their reasons for designing the dock the way they did, but it’s definitely a regression from their previous docks.

Any idea why it's so difficult to get the Skull & Co Gripcase? I've not read a single bad word about it but other than a store in the US and one in Australia,  you can't seem to buy it. We're they having production or licensing issues?

Hello, nobody gonna pop up with an answer telling us a UK based supplier where they are readily available?

My PC's not even in the same room. Or on the same floor. I really can't think what it could be other than a fault with the console - I've been emailing Nintendo back and forth and they're now saying I should send it in again, although quite what they're going to find that they didn't uncover the first time I'm not sure.

I haven't. Does this involve opening them up and fiddling around with the insides? Not sure I'm confident enough to try that myself...

Maybe I should just use it as a handheld. It works fine as a handheld.

Could have docked upside down / slid in sideways.

Upside down might have worked - but then it would have had to vent the air out of the bottom, and when you play handheld on your lap (oh-er) you could block it maybe?

I also do think having everyone put their Switch in upside down just so that it could be charged in tabletop mode (not something I think a high percentage of people do) would have been worse design if anything really?

Do you know anyone else with one that might let you try their controllers?

This week I got:

Octopath Traveller

Captain Toad

Shining Resonance: Refrain

Sonic Forces Plus

And I'm hovering over buying Bomb Chicken as well.

Jesus. I'm playing my Switch far more than anything else, but I'm struggling to keep up.
