I like the white and the buttons, but the sticks look awful.

They're just caps i had left over that i got free with red joy con cases, have always used caps on other pads so put them on for the feeling.

So the question is: Is it worth a tenner then @deKay?

Or in my case, full download price because I’m one of those all digital fools who would rather pay £10-£20 more for a game with no sell on value out of laziness, sorry, I mean for convenience.

I wonder what issues they’re having with dark souls. It looked quite ready from what I saw (granted that’s not a measure). Maybe Nintendo are unhappy with the messages you can leave people

I doubt it, it will be performance/online issues.

Flashback is great. A landmark platformer.

Aren’t brains wonderful things?  So many years (25?!! Fuck) since I played this, but I instantly remember how to control Conrad...how to hang off ledges, where the credits are hidden, how to charge my shield.

Good story, lovely animation and superb music.

Is flashback an actual good game? I remember briefly playing it back in the day and it seemed nice and snappy but were the levels well designed?

I replayed it on the Mega Drive (the platform they targeted during dev) a few years ago. The first three areas hold up very well, but it tapers off badly towards the end - combat against the blobby aliens is either dull or frustratingly impossible, depending on whether you're in the open or in an enclosed space, and there are a few bits of crappy design (including a moment in the late game where you have to shoot a door to open it, despite no other door in the game opening when you shoot it, and a stupidly hidden lift *right* at the very last moment of the game). The promise of the teleporter you get late game is never really fulfilled. Generally could have done with more time in the oven, I suspect.

I wouldn't buy it again, but I don't begrudge anyone for having fun with it. Those smeary emulator-filter style graphic enhancements look nasty, though.

Yeah, I'd agree with that. It's a funny old game, sort of the opposite of Another World. Another World relies heavily on challenging/unfair 1-4 screen puzzles that are skewed to have their worst examples at the very start (including areas that are utterly impossible without trial and error), and has controls that are a bit muddy at best, but is very well paced with a real sense of exploration* and excellent build-up to a solid climax, making the whole game this memorable story that is surprisingly easy to go back to once you've acclimatised to it.

Flashback, by contrast, has a nice involved control scheme and satisfying character to control, starts very strongly, loaded with clever, interesting multiscreen puzzles to solve, but gradually declines into meandering, overstretched challenges and overstays its welcome; so the beginning of the game is easy to return to and remains a pleasure, but actually completing the game these days feels rather more a chore.

*the dramatic alien world does a lot of the work here - Eric Chahi's flare for visual design never more evident (though Future Wars does have its moments)

Monster Hunter disappeared from the Coming Soon page too. I think there's simply a limit to how many games the page displays - games coming later get pushed off the list by a large batch of new/more recent games.

They need to make room for Here Comes the Beer 2 and Shin Kicker 6: Beer Pong after all.

Seriously though I think they have a problem with multi platform games coming late and  missing the zeitgeist right now and this stupid shit on eshop (the amount of shovel ware is insane) doesn't help.

Anybody got any impressions of performance with Ys VIII?

Quite tempted by it, but I’ve read very conflicting reports- some say it runs great, others that you shouldn’t even consider it and should just get the PS4 version.
