I've never played a Dark Souls as I heard it was literally impossible, is it THAT difficult? Shame there's not a demo to try as id love to give it a go

It is difficult but the reward that comes from learning how to play it is pretty much unrivalled.

It will certainly frustrate and may lead to the odd rage quit but, with a little practice and some patience, nothing in it is impossible when playing solo. Even if you reach what seems like an insurmountable challenge, or a boss that you just do not fancy spending time on mastering,  the game offers lifelines in the form of assistance form other players which can nullify even the hardest of obstacles and allow the player to get on with exploring the world. And that's where the fun lies as, even though it's the games perceived high difficulty that makes the biggest headlines, the real wonder of the game is in the exploration of a quite astonishing interconnected world. It's a big game too, even without the DLC, so represents genuine value, I've put more hours into Souls games than just about any single player game I can recall.

Dark Souls stands up there with the best games of all time and I'd highly recommend your trying it.

All that said, I'm passing on the Switch version as a) it's not really a game I'd want to play on the small screen and b) the lack of 60fps is a real loss as it really improves the feel and look of the game.

Wouldn't all of those hours you put in have been at 30fps though - it's only the recent release that was 60fps isn't it? It's not really a loss as such....

Demo would be a terrible showcase for a game like dark souls.

The dark souls games are difficult, but they're extremely fair and far from impossible. 9 times out of 10, you will die because you screwed up, not because the game is cheap or trolling you.

I've said it before, but dying is a part of the learning process in dark souls. You learn something new every time you die. How an enemy moves. How they attack. Where traps are. Where an enemy will jump out at you. You go back with that knowledge and you smash them to bits. Early on you'll struggle to kill even the simplest enemies without a good fight. Later on, you'll be one shotting, parrying and making fools of them, but if you ever get too cocky, those same basic enemies can still fuck you up in a heartbeat.

I tried to play Bloodborne but the big wolf at the start killed me a few times.  Awful camera angles after it pushed me against the wall didn't help either.  Is Dark Souls like that?

Wait, what? The big wolf right at the very very start is basically meant to kill you the first time so you go to Hunter's Dream and pick up your weapons and then you go back and kill the wolf in about 3 hits.

I played the original release on PC at 60fps so, yeah, going down to 30fps is a huge loss...

Is the Online service active, yet? I was reading the flurry of welcome emails I got and realized I hadn't noticed how to get the free NES games, nor cloud sync saves.

No, it's scheduled for September - exact date is still TBC though. You can't (and don't need to) buy/pay yet.

I'm in the market for a bigger card myself. I've got around 50 games downloaded, probably ten first party or major releases and forty indies or arcade ports. I've had to delete the likes of Doom and RE Revelations 2 because they're too big for the amount of time I've found them interesting but I'd like to have them, as well as stuff like Bomberman, Lego City Undercover and that tier of third party stuff. They're very good in a certain context, just not in my top 50 when accounting for space!

That gives you an idea in terms of numbers, etc.

Right so 400 gig from the get go then :P

A PC Gamer.

Not meant as a negative, just not too many left now are there - feels like we're heavily console-skewed here anyway...

Carry on. As you were.

I own and use all current consoles so I'm not sure I'd be defined as a 'PC Gamer' and I have no idea how many people play PC games but there doesn't seem to be any lack of releases so there must be a few left.

If a game plays and/or looks better on a particular platform then that is where I'll play it. Which seems sensible enough to me..

Isn't there twice as many PC gamers than Console?  I think big titles generally now come out across PS4, XBO, PC and Switch now anyway, so I think everything will grow at a similar rate.

Yep PC gaming market is probably bigger than all consoles put together but just not well represented on this site.  I agree with Mike S, Dark Souls is stunning at 60 fps feels like I'm moving at treacle in 30fps but still fine as long as it's solid.

Its not and is in decline but still very healthy, growth last year was 1% - mobile is the biggest market and easily the least well represented here!

Are the souls remasters 60fps on any console? they and BB are as you describe in my small play time on them so I imagine much better on pc.

It was still pretty bad framerate wise at points but if you can push through those points then it's playable. TBH it's not so much that the system cannot handle the game but more to do with the way the game streams data. There are points where it stutters for a few seconds and then it's fine.

Women make up nearly 50% or even greater than half the overall general gaming population too if you want to talk about under representation on this particular forum ;) But then again, when does the representation or enthusiasm for practically anything but big budget films get proportionally represented on this forum?

The new Dark Souls targets and maintains 60fps on all the other console versions the vast majority of the time, even the infamous Blight Town runs fine now, it's as close to a locked 60fps as Call of Duty or pretty much any other so called 60fps console game can claim to be.

Trying to download a game and nothing's happening.

On the progress screen it says paused and nothing is happening. I've closed everything, restarted, powered off and switch is connected to wifi, but it's still paused.

Any ideas?

I found out today that I have hit the Switch’s video limit of 100 clips, even though they only account for 1.7 gig, and I’ve got another 16 gig free on the machine.

Seems a bit nonsensical to cap them like that.
