Having recently gone through Lylat Wars on the 3DS, I'm more interested in a swooping, choke-point-laden in-air racer like a good Diddy Kong Pilot than I am a new land-based F-Zero, as sacrilegious as that sounds - particularly if it follow the best of the Star Fox series' Arwing movement.

If Retro really were involved in some of the tracks of the best Mario Kart ever while making such measured, polished gems as Tropical Freeze, then I have quite a bit of trust that this will be a fun game.

I think the main issue with Star Fox is that is has been such a diverse series. Never giving us a definitive version (although some would argue 64 is just that), which is asking for trouble when Nintendo is itching for weirdo things to add to the series. Even Zero was adding stupid stuff and that's when helmed by Platinum of all studios. I have some faith in Retro for this, as DKC seems to agree that they know arcade action, but still, a new Star Fox does feel a bit like flogging a dead horse.

That would seem to be caused by lack of faith in the gameplay in the original games being enough to keep on selling the games in sufficient quantities to bother keep on making (also explains why they farmed out the the vast majority of the games to contractors, not worth internal dev time which could be better used on more commercially successful ideas). This new game sounds like Nintendo deciding to do a Mario on a new game idea, slap on a known brand skin to help it sell a bit better, that's the reason they use Mario for so many different games afterall.
