Emulator screen shots and runs OCR on the images then pipes that info to a hiscore overlay?

it wouldn’t even need to know when to screen shot the hiscore table. I suspect you could take images and process them regularly without impacting emulation...

You're probably overthinking it, the high score will be in a particular known memory location, you just lift it out.

That would be totally bonkers considering the strength of the F-Zero IP. I mean, it's got a fantastic 80s look which is so IN right now, it's untrue. They'd be nuts to do a racing game like it but without the F-Zero universe and characters.

It's Nintendo, it's probably happening.

Perhaps they'll bring the two franchises together? That might work I suppose.

Quick question guys,

You know how at the moment a game released on all formats will release on say Xbox and PS4, PC etc at the same time with a Switch version generally coming later, is that something that in time won't happen and they'll all release together?

Reading about Rage 2 just got me curious as an (unnoficial) article I was reading claims that a Switch version will be released at some point after the others get it

Depends when the game started development (for many games we've seen lately development has started before people knew about Switch so it was impossible to factor it in). For newer games it then comes down to resources and if the team has the resources available to support multiple platforms during development.

Didn't Retro Studios also work on Mario Kart 7 and 8?

Could be good, add some Excite Truck terraforming and tricks please.

If Pokemon comes out before Christmas Nintendo might reach that sales target after all.

On an unrelated note, Xenoblade 2 was great. The most I've played a single player game and I've even started a new game plus.

Switch. Is. Awesome.

I think i'd be up for another racing game that isn't Mario kart. I think Nintendo ran out of ideas of Starfox since 64.

There was talk of a new diddy kong racing, but it also was more of a cutesy version of Mario Kart.

Is Starfox more popular than f-zero? I expect this game to be similar to that game but with a more interesting line up... i can't remember more than a couple characters from F Zero.

Also hub world, yes please.

I could see it being something like the racing is the narrative loop with you then exploring the world for more parts, doing quests and shit for parts and resources to build bigger and better racers. I hope it’s not a straight up racer in any case.

Why the fuck would you have a Starfox racing game when all anyone wants is F-Zero?

The only thing I can think of is if it's more Diddy Kong Racing style, with a hub and objectives.

Star Fox Grand Prix battle mode with actual space dogfights, count me in.

I've never much liked Star Fox and the whole concept just feels dated by modern standards, but a complete reimagining of it could be awesome.

Choo-choo

...but you still have F-Zero, that's the point.

Nah, make Star Fox an open world (worlds?) game with contracts, bounties and A DEEP SECRET IN THE CENTRE OF THE UNIVERSE.

Just to get it off my chest, but I HATE HATE HATE reports like this Eurogamer one:

https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2018-05-14-leaks-suggest-nintendos-retro-studios-making-star-fox-racing-spin-off

Quote

So, what do we believe? Well, as improbable as Retro making a Star Fox racing spin-off may sound, Eurogamer sources have heard similar.

You've heard similar have you - then why have you never mentioned it before? Surely any website sitting on news of what Retro might be up to would post it - it's going to be big news. Why wait for somebody else to steal the thunder? Unless you don't want to upset Nintendo, in which case why post anything about it now?

Quote

While I hadn't heard the name - and don't know if that is accurate or final - other details line up with what I have heard.

Quote

Again, I've not heard that name specifically, but the rest of the details line up.

What HAVE you heard then? What 'lines up' with what you were told? What "details" do you have? The whole report is stuff stolen from others, just with them going 'yeah we heard that too' tacked on the end. Not one single new detail. What are you adding here? Go on, put your own actual neck on the line and tell us what details you have heard instead of just trying to steal credit from somebody else and make out you knew too. Anyone can just say 'yeah I heard that' now - but trying to make out you know more and then not actually adding anything is just shit. And doing it in this way, so you've never actually added anything anyway, just means you can claim it wasn't your story if it turns out to be complete nonsense.

BLOT: If you're going to go wink wink I know something, have the balls to come out and say it and add your own stuff, or stay out of it, report it as news coming from somebody else and stop trying to take credit.

Just bothers me - oh we heard details. We have details. Details line up with our sources. Our spy gave us the same details.

Then no details other than stuff already out there that they want to now try and claim some piece of.

For what it’s worth I think the name is bullshit (the image comes from 4chan) and has all the hallmarks of a fake. It’s also a terrible name as it automatically makes you assume the game is only about racing.

Perhaps it is only (mainly) about racing.

Eurogamer are usually right when it comes to Nintendo rumours.   They probably didn't post about it before because they didn't have any corroboration.

They got Switch early - but they were way off with that Pokemon Stars thing.

I'm not doubting if they are right or not at the end of the day anyway really - it's just the way they write that article - if you're just going to report news that other people have broken then go ahead and do it. Don't fill said article with references to 'details' that you know but are then never going to actually state. If you're going to say "that lines up with what we heard" then at least have a "which was" at the end of it. The only thing they actually confirm from their own info is that they hadn't heard that name before.

Yeah I get you. Perhaps they didn't want to upset Nintendo but once leaked by some random they decided they had nothing to lose, or perhaps they're full of shit!
