Your mileage may vary, but even as a huge Zelda fan I still found it a terrible game. It's nothing but a button masher with infuriating "tactical gameplay" which forces you to run around the map like a headless chicken. The only thing going for Hyrule Warriors is the fanservice.

I must admit, i kinda felt the same way. The amount of playable characters where great but i just found it a very repetitive game. It just isn't for me i guess.

Hyrule Warriors felt like work to me, and the emotional attachment I had to the world and characters soon wore off. FE Warriors doesn’t even have that (although I did like the GBA FE game).

I can see it really works for some people, but it’s not for me.

And yet, I love Fire Emblem Warriors and I only know two of the characters in it. And one of those is because he was in Smash Bros (Marth), and the other because she was in Tokyo Mirage Sessions (Tiki).

If a complete noob to either series was going to try out Hyrule Warriors or Fire Emblem which would people recommend?

I'm a noob myself and will be getting Hyrule Warriors. I have no clue who any of the FE characters are plus it looks like shit compared to HW.

To be fair he's offering an opinion of a game he has played. I'm not much intetested in the game myself and his experience mirrors what I've felt playing various iterations of the Warriors series over the years.

I know, I know - but also, lots of people like the game, it sold millions - it's clearly not a terrible game with nothing but fanservice going for it. For a guy without a Switch, it's just irritating how often he pops up with nothing but OTT moans. He's got no positive energy man.

@CovisGod - that's a hard one, IMO FEW is a slightly better game (has a bit more going on), but obviously HW has the Zelda universe and characters to play in. I guess HW is easier to get into, so I'd just give that the edge. If you like it, then FEW is more of the same, with a bit more to think about and a bit better.

Hyrule Warriors features a wailing electric guitar cover of the main theme from Skyward Sword. So, that.

Re. the argument about Switch not having any games beyond the exclusives, there are loads of great games to play but the issue is that they're inevitably cheaper on the PS4. I was going to get Doom for the Switch, for example, as I hadn't played it, but then I picked it up in Sainsbury's the other day for a tenner (£5 with my Nectar Points!). Even at its cheapest, it's still 6 times as much on the Switch. The frequent PSN sales are much better than the Switch's as well. I bought Stardew Valley on the Switch a few months ago for about £12, which I thought was a bargain at the time, but it's currently in the PSN sale for half that. I've got a list of games I want to play that are available for both Switch and PS4, but I can almost guarantee that each of them will be cheaper on the PS4 than the Switch. This means that I don't get especially excited when a port of a game that has already been released for the PS4 is announced for Switch.

If the portability of the Switch isn't that big of deal (and it's not for me), once you've played the exclusives it's cheaper to play the other games elsewhere, occasionally with better graphics. Even if portability is a big draw for you, if you're a PS4 owner as well I can't believe that you don't find it a bit aggravating when you have to pay more for the Switch version.

Ultimately I think Nintendo are limiting their market to people who just want the Switch for the exclusives or those who need to play non-exclusive games in a more portable way because they don't have access to the TV or a PC (I.e. parents, or people with unsympathetic partners). I don't think the other arguments for choosing Switch over other consoles carry much weight, certainly not enough to make up for the increase in price, anyway. Not for me, at least. If people buy it just for the exclusives then it'll always remain the secondary console.

As a Wii U owner, i got A LOT of use out my switch but the past month or so i haven't really got much use out of it. Most of the games Nintendo are bringing out i already played or own 3rd party stuff.

I don't have an issue with these games coming out again and giving them a new lease of life but still, nothing is heading to the system for months now for me.

I apologise, I'll ask you to check my posts before I comment in future. I wouldn't use popularity as a measure of a good game. Millions of people (like me) were tricked into buying it because of the Zelda brand. If (when) Nintendo port Yoshi's Wooly World to the Switch, I promise I will post a glowing, enthusiastic review.

Tricked? You didn't realise it was a muso style game?

What is a muso style game?

Any one where you sit around bitching about the music being derivative and simple, with the playing thereof lacking any skill or soul.

He reminds me of that DJ on Radio 1 who always starts with "Hello beautiful people"

It's the only thing about their video output that grates on me, and mostly because if you click on their Youtube page it auto plays a video and that's the first thing you hear.
I get that it's his thing, but it's an annoyign thing, it does it's job though, makes you remember him.

"What up, cunts, it's ya boy Stanshall."

The intro to every video on my YouTube reaction channel.

I do reaction videos to reaction videos.

I haven't checked but that humorous concept was probably trite by 2011.

If not, feel free to take the idea, sounds shite.

Just had a look at some Fire Emblem gameplay, reminds me of the old Dynasty Warriors games which isnt a bad thing, it's also like nothing else I own on the Switch so I'm going to purchase for a change of pace. Much cheaper from Amazon than either eShop or CD Keys, guess I'll buy the cart.

You know, the only reason I bought the game originally was the electric guitar cover that was playing in the eShop on the day of release and I thought, need that.
