I think @therearerules got his switch from them.

I’ve got a lot of Switch games from them, all of which have been VG+ to Mint - with physical media and no manuals, I think Switch games hold their condition very well.

I also got a joycon from them (neon yellow) which I’m less happy with - it all works, but the sticks creak a bit and it feels different from my other joycons in terms of finish. Got it mail order, so didn’t have a chance to test first.

Just realised that i didnt reply to you from your post a few weeks back. I ordered a new set of yellow joycons from the nintendo store, and i have to be honest, they are exactly the same as my Mario Odyssey red ones i had bundled with the console. No creaks, and the finish feels a little bit smoother than the red ones, but nothing that distracts me at all.

My son's broken his neon blue controller though - the analogue stick is proper fucked.

To be fair, one of my regular joycons occasionally emits a little creak from the analogue stick, now I've racked up a few hundred hours. I wouldn't notice if I wasn't playing things extra quietly after the rest of the family have gone to bed. It's all fully functional.

That finish sounds a lot like my yellow one. I guess it's a feature, not a bug, but I don't get on with it. I got it as a total luxury buy to replace my neon red one, as it's not a bold enough colour (more of a weak pink, and I have the proper glorious neon pink joycon for that), but I've ended up not using it and will probably trade it back to CEX along with some other crud for Mario Odyssey. I've actually made peace with the red joycon now - I use a blue/pink pair and a green/red pair, and they look great.

Ironically, the little Hori stand which I got as a may-as-well-use-up-the-credit-dregs thing from CEX in the same transaction gets heaps of use and is one of my favourite console accessories of all time.

I've been thinking about getting a stand, but i find if i'm not playing it on the TV, then i will slide the joy-cons in and play handheld. I find the screen just a little bit too small to use in table top mode, unless you are sat literally inches away.

I've been totting up some stuff I have to potentially trade at CEX and I reckon I have enough for a Switch. Anyone had any experience buying consoles from there? I've literally never bought anything from them.

I bought an xbox one from there a few years ago.  It's been fine and never had a problem with it.

Cheers. I'll stop being a fanny about it and go down and just inspect the thing before I commit.

I got a stand and it’s been life changing, mainly for the iPad but we now need 4 of them in the house as we all use it for phones, tablets and occasionally the Switch!! Amazing what raising the devices a few inches does.

I went official when this was £8.99 but even at a pound dearer now it's a pretty good deal.

It's will also kill the system's sales just as fast as the R4 killed the DS software market if it's an easy hack to do.

It really wouldn't. An emulator wouldn't take away from the Switch's appeal unless you go to the lengths to make a similar piece of PC hardware - which probably would cost you many times the asking price.

The number of people interested in a PC emulator who wouldn't also own a Switch are probably statistically insignificant. Either they were never going to buy a Switch or the value they attached to the platform wasn't very much anyway.

From Nintendo's point of view, the hardware itself is a good enough deterrent from emulating because people are going to want the hybrid experience.

Hacking the Switch itself would be a much bigger deal IMO, I think Nintendo have already eyes on a hardware fix for the current exploit so we'll see how that particular battle pans out.

I'm currently considering picking up a Switch but undecided whether to go for a new one or keep an eye out on the likes of Gumtree for one that's a few months old.

It seems the going rate is about £200 used normally bundled with a game as well.

What's everyones thoughts on buying used? Just slightly concerned with having a reduced warranty!

If you're in doubt ask the seller some questions:

Are the joycons working, properly particularly the left one dropping out?

Any marks on the screen or damage to the unit such as a crack by the power switch. Did they use a screen protector?

Ask for photos if you're unsure.

I'm also considering picking up a Switch this summer. I plan to mostly play at home in handheld mode, and sometimes take it with me on my commute. I want to go digital only. What size memory card would be recommended? And is a screen protector and carrying case necessary? Should I get a pro controller for the occasional play on the TV, or are the joycons good enough?

The answer to all those is it's up to you.

Buy loads of games? Buy a big memory card. Fill it up? Just buy a bigger one.

I don't have a screen protector but I do have a carry case, no issues here. I have a pro controller cos my big bear claws prefer the sticks but the Joycons still work fine for me in handheld mode. I prefer the Pro for longer sessions though.

For digital only go for the biggest card you can afford. They're pricey though once you go above 128gb (£70 for 200gb £95 for 256gb) and prohibitively so for the 400gb one (£200+)

I use a screen protector and a case but don't take it out that much. Just for peace of mind really.

Personally, it'd put a glass screen protector on it straight away.  The screen is plastic, and once on, you don't even notice the glass, plus it's easier to clean if you use the touchscreen, and imo feels much nicer.  They are only 3 or 4 quid from Amazon.

If you want to move it around, I'd also get a case.  My case is more or less only used to store my games 95% of the time, but on the odd holiday or visit to my mother in law's, it's invaluable.

I don't have a Pro Controller, and don't feel the need.  I played 100+ hours of Zelda with split joycon and loved it.

I also have an 8bitdo SF30 Pro.  I played 120+ hours of Xenoblade with maybe 75% of that being the 8bitdo and the rest split joycons, the 8bitdo is now my go to Switch pad, and sees use on other consoles too.

Others will say the Pro is a must, but until you try split joycon, you won't know.

I'm more than happy to play portable too which means attached joycons - if you're playing in handheld, the pro is pointless unless you want a stand and to sit at a table!

Anyone interested in my spare 128GB Micro SD Card? It’s the fast Toshiba one that everyone was buying on launch. I’ve replaced it with a 200GB card cos I’ve got too many games.

My only problem with the joycon is that the left stick is pretty sensitive to being accidentally pressed down unintentionally. It was a right cunt during heated Zelda combat, causing Link to duck and crawl instead of popping the insane backflip dodge that I had in mind <_<

I think I’ll need a Pro controller for Dark Souls (what does clicking down the left stick actually control in that game, if anything?).
