Nevermind panic over, son had knocked dock over and tried to cover his tracks - plugging wire in USB socket instead of power socket :)

How old is your son? You obviously aren't teaching him correctly if he's getting those two sockets the wrong way around :P (He should have learnt this by 3 months old surely?)

Ah at least it's nothing too serious :)

If you're going to accuse any company of resting on their laurels, it's gotta be Microsoft. I've no idea how Nintendo over the last 12 months can be accused of being lazy. At least wait till E3.

Forget it Jake, it's the_debaser town.

I'm going to come out with a massively outlandish comment now that may get me a forum ban..... I've spent about 5 or 6 hours on Xenoblade now and I actually prefer it to Zelda  I know they're hugely different but I'm enjoying myself a lot more playing this than I did BOTW.

Neg away, I deserve it....

I agree with this on a personal level. Difficult to argue that it's the better game objectively but in terms of characters, story and locations, it's the one that I will remember more fondly.

And the first five to six hours are arguably the worst.

Woah woah woah! No bluetooth headset compatibility! What is this, 2006?

Pray tell, which current console are you talking about - because this applies to all of them I believe.....it's not just Nintendo being 'backwards'.

Huh? I can just use my wireless headset for my PS4.

EDIT: Unless that isn't over bluetooth? I forget.

It's a portable console, I'd have expected it to have bluetooth headset support.

I can't be lugging my PS4 around.

Agreed. Sony have supported bluetooth audio on their portables since the PSP Go, I think. Phones (the other big player in the portable space) obviously have it. It's only Nintendo who don't.

I'd be quite happy if I could only use them with attached joycons.

It's also a home console with controllers that also attach via Bluetooth. No other system of that type has offered Bluetooth headset use, so there's clearly some reason for it. As has already been pointed out, even the official Sony headset has to use a dongle (and they apparently had it cracked already on their portables).

There has to be some reason - or do you think Sony decided to use a dongle on their official PS4 headset just for shits and giggles?

I'm well aware of the connection limit, I'm just pointing out that all three consoles don't support it (and one of them comes from a company that has supported it on a different device in the past). It's clearly not something they are leaving out for no reason at all.

Switch uses Bluetooth 4.1, which allows 7 active child devices to connect.

Interesting.

How can Bomberman and Puyo Puyo Tetris allow 8-player games then?

I wonder how many fewer official headsets they'd have sold if people could use their existing (potentially non-Sony) Bluetooth headphones.

It may also be a licensing thing, which is why the original X-Box could only play DVDs with the official remote (the dongle of which had the DVD-Video logo on it) - the payment to the DVD lobby was shifted out of the purchase price of the console, and into the purchase price of the remote. You could play them without the remote if you used XBMC, there was no technical barrier.

I guess that's one possible option - but that doesn't really affect Nintendo - they are not trying to flog official headsets (at this point). It feels like there has to be something, or else one of the three would have jumped on it as something special they do and the others don't by now surely?

Bluetooth headsets work with a Bluetooth dongle.

Yes, I actually use the PS4 headset with my switch - stick the dongle in the dock and away you go.

It is a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma.

The fuck? Would that also work with my wireless Logitech one then? :o

Does your logitech one use a dongle? If so, almost certainly yes. Try it!

I'm glad to have helped!

So onto more serious matters. To sign up for the Nintendo service thing - I have a Wii U account, can I use that? Or is it a new NEW service?

(Although I still need to transfer my Wii to my Wii U, or does that not matter now)

Ha! I haven’t had it on charge for a few weeks and my usb cable isn’t very long. So, thoughts it would be a nice way to continue playing without having to have my nosebleed pressed up against a 42” TV.

I cant understand how the pro knows the difference between the switch dock and the power brick?  I would understand it if there wasn’t enough power/voltage or whatever but it cant be more than the switch requires to charge and play at the same time.
