Probably a stupid question, but with No Man's Sky now coming to Xbox, what is the likelihood of it turning up on Switch at some point? I followed the development of that game with interest, knowing full well my life wouldn't accommodate a game of that scope. But having clocked up 150 hours on BOTW, simply by being able to take it to bed, makes me hope we might see this game too.

Or am I being pointlessly optimistic?

I think we'll see a lot of late ports to the Switch, perhaps the Arkham trilogy, Mass Effect and FF13. Anything that would look good on the Switch but not require massive effort.

The first three (including that not Rocksteady one), yes - but Arkham Knight pushes current gen machines pretty hard. Would be something of an effort to get it running on Switch. But Asylum and City would be great and they just got HD ports so why not?

Nintendo seems to have documented UE4 well and given that the work to remaster the first two games from UE3 to 4 has already been done, it doesn't seem like it would be a mammoth task to port Arkham Knight.

Might actually get a working PC port out of it.

It's not vanilla UE but a heavily modified and customised version (of 3 even instead of 4 iirc). Hence how much trouble they had getting a PC version up and running - and it's to this day still a bit fucked. Nintendo's documenting of UE doesn't help at all here afaik

That's what I mean, I don't think it would be in UE3, they did all the work to port the first two Arkham games to UE4 - its probably easier to build on that than to try and get their version of UE3 running on the Switch.

There are barely any UE3 games on there anyway right? I can only think of Rocket League.

It might of course happen, I'm no programmer I just post a lot :D Speculating. Porting such an intensive game to another engine, no matter how friendly UE4 is, also sounds like a lot of work. Moreso than with the last-gen games but what do I know. But a working PC version definitely ain't never going to happen sadly, WB has given up on that. Just like they abandoned Arkham Origins despite some nasty save corrupting bugs yet remaining to this day. WB is ruthless like that.

I would love Asylum on the Switch btw, it's my favourite one. Would be a great excuse to play through it again :)

Darkside Detective is back on the eshop for £12.99.

It's a fairly simple point and click in which you play Detective Francis McQueen, who works in the Darkside Division of Twin Lakes police department, and who, with rookie cop Dooley, investigates all the supernatural going on in the town. The game presents you with a number of case files to work through, each about 45 minutes long so far based on the three I've done (which the first being shorter), so the game is fairly short.

There doesn't seem to be an overarching story to tie the cases together, which is a shame. The writing is pretty funny, and each case has a pun for a name, such as the one about a spooky book in the library being called "Tome Alone", but the puzzles are very simplistic and won't challenge old-school point and click aficionados - a lot of "combine A with B to make C" type stuff. The music is great, all 80s spooky synth, and the pixel art graphics are nice to look at.

Worth a punt, although possibly wait for a sale given how short it looks to be.

PoundSmart the clown.....I may buy this on that alone. I like the idea have the episodic layout of this game as it is akin to reading a short story/novella before bed.

May try with the other characters but not confident of hitting sub-20 with either of them.

This is a wicked little game and a bargain to boot.

Shit

This wasn't an especially good run so maybe 20 minutes is on the cards after all. Seriously doubt that'll be the case for the archer though, I'm absolutely dreadful with her...

Yeah the archer is really awkward to use

I've seen some really fast times with her when abusing the death and restart method, presumably because her special mops up big piles of enemies quickly; in normal play though she's really awkward due to lack of mobility.

Or maybe I'm just terrible...
