You forgot:

Zelda: Oceanhorn

These are still alternatives, not equivalents. That implies some parity of quality as well, surely? Again, dunno about Arms although aren't those you mention 2D things? Anyway I'm boring myself now, so apologies and carry on.

So if someone is fed up with Nintendo's objectively shit service (asking money for repairs under warranty? For what is a known issue at their end with the joycons? What exactly is warranty for if not faulty hardware! And wiping saves because they can't figure out what a cloud is? Come now) and decides to switch sides, fair enough. Sure he'll miss out on some of the best games this gen, but have a bit of sympathy for the frustration they're putting him through.

I think we're on the same page there, apart from adoring the X. I do have plenty of sympathy with the dude, as I said, but it's bad luck rather than a slight on the system. I also understand that the X is a fucking amazing machine so perhaps I came across as dismissive because I didn't use it anywhere near as much as my other machines. I actually really wish the exclusives were better because I love it as a machine and it's got the best pad by some distance.

I suppose I also just don't like most third party multiplat games, for whatever reason, so I never really got into it for the reason I thought I would.

I was joking but yeah. I also had Hi-Tec and Nicks as a kid. This explains why I only want the best now I can afford anything better.

@Rain Birds I do feel for you, bud. It must be really really frustrating and make you lose confidence in the product and company but don't shoot half your face off to spite the remaining pieces of your face.

You're just bloody unlucky. I recently sold both a One S and One X and don't miss a single thing. I literally didn't play either for the last month I owned them, besides forcing myself to try to see value in them before selling. Some decent games but absolutely no reason to own one over a Switch, or a PS4.

That's all opinions though, I sold the PS4 two years ago and haven't remotely missed it, Seeing the direction of the first party titles where they now seem to be aiming for cinematic third person experiences just does nothing for me. If it wasn't for the likes of  the genuinely top tier Zelda and Mario I'd probably rarely touch the Switch too.

We all have differing experiences and wants so I find it borderline asinine to say there's no reason to own a certain system over others when personally I can see huge merit.

And it's sad to hear Nintendo's UK service centre is still poor. They we're a nightmare when I had a faulty Wii U.

Exactly this. And while I prefer my X and Switch overall, the PS4 has the best exclusives as far as I'm concerned. Personal taste. I love Yakuza and Nier and Bloodborne - and I think Spider-Man and God of War look amazing. The Nintendo faithful would probably think I'm crazy, but I prefer Sony's current first-party output over Nintendo's :) But let me emphasize that I wouldn't want to have missed out on titles like Odyssey!

I always had Hitecs as a kid, we didn't have much money. Perhaps explains my taste in games :sherlock:

For weeks now I have been reading your posts @Kirby with much vigour and enthusiasm and I've yet to discern just what games exactly you do like ;)

Snake pass any good? Saw it’s £7.99 currently.

Im tempted as David Wise did the music.

I didn’t like it at all.

This is the best thing you can watch or read about it to help you make a decision:

Snake Pass is wonderful. Evoking N64 era platformers while simultaneously giving the genre something new and fresh with the snake controls. It is a game all about the controls and whether you love or hate the game will depend on how you get on with them. If you like a challenge and tend to embrace and enjoy mastering something a little different then it's essential.

I'd love a sequel.

For me it was David Wise on a budget! Well... I was spoilt by new tracks per stage in donkey kong, one track per world did start to drag/disappointment after the breadth and veriety of tropical freeze.

The game is good and fun but its quite slow, parts where you see a collectable and by the collectable is a fun body bending puzzle - you have to boringly meander over to it... Then you spot another collectable - boring meander + good puzzle, etc etc. Even had near the exit spotting something and  "cannot be bothered" to go back and get it lol

Saying this, I still enjoy it but hardly play.

Edge 6 from me!

My Switch has developed the hairline crack near the power button on the rear case.

Spoken to the "helpdesk" and was told I could send it back for inspection and then I'd be told if it was a chargeable job or not.

Was also told that no repairs are being done until April 3rd due to stock take.

I've only taken the Switch out of the dock about half a dozen times so I'm pretty fucked off that it is damaged.

Thread about someone with a similar issue on neogaf...

https://www.neogaf.com/threads/switch-cracking-near-power-button.1397031/

One of posters mentioned it maybe a cause of holding the switch unit with a single hand thus placing extra stress on one side.

Going to have a look at mine tonight... although rarely play out of the dock TBH....

Still doesn't seem a widespread issue. Yet.

My brother had the same issue and they wanted to charge him £180 to repair it!!

Absolute joke!!

If you send in a Switch for repair will all your game saves be wiped? Guessing what they'll do is just swap out the unit for speed.

Another thing they really need to address on the Switch TBH. Hopefully cloud saves will be part of the update when Nintendo releases its online service later this year....or at least an option to save to a memory card / stick.

Thinking I might just buy a replacement coloured shell and do it myself.

Keep my saves, mod my Switch aesthetics.

Just annoying that my old Nintendo consoles and handhelds are all in top notch working order and the most recent one is broken.

Well, fuck a duck, just checked mine and there is very feint crack just beginning to appear. Balls.

I use mine out of the dock all the time but can’t see any relation between that and where the crack is. Looks to me like the little screw is just too tight.

Will keep an eye on it and be sure to post your progress with Ninty.

If only I could just back up all my saves I wouldn’t be so nervous about this bloody thing breaking all the time. At this point, with about 500 hours invested acros Zelda, SMO, MK8 and Splatoon, I’d rather buy another one just to back it up.

Why even return it to Nintendo; for the privilege of being charged money for repairing their shoddy hardware? Return to the retailer as faulty goods and get a brand new replacement or refund.

Over a year old. Retailer won't touch it.
