Gonna get a nice USB joystick fighting stick for my switch for all these neo geo fighters. Was gonna get a Mayflash F300, anyone tried it with Switch?

I've not tried it but it seems like a decent enough entry level stick; especially since you can use it with several systems. Should be relatively straightforward to slot in some better buttons to improve it if you wish.

I use the 8bitdo NES30 stick. It basically is that same Mayflash stick rebranded. While it is compatible with PC it doesn't have compatibility with other consoles however it does work wirelessly with Switch so you can use it to play games when the Switch is undocked. That's the main reason I bought it.

Another option to consider if you already own a stick for another console is a Brook converter. You need to buy the correct one but it's cheaper than a new stick.

I believe you can use wired sticks while Switch is undocked however you'll need a USB-C to USB Female converter and a way to plug it into the awkwardly-played underside port.

Here's my NES30 (it's not quite as massive as this makes it look):

@Rain Birds That’s bullshit. Unless they’re designed to break after 12 months, you’re within your rights for a repair. Apple gave me a new iPhone 6S out of warranty because it the screen stopped responding as it should.

From the Consumer Goods Act 2015

“[consumers will] know that they can get a repair or replacement if they discover a product is faulty more than 30 days after purchase/delivery. Of course, this only applies if the product was supposed to last longer.”

Just got an email from Nintendo UK telling me that the Joycon right click ceasing to register as a button press isn’t covered under warranty and that they want £29 for the repair.

This is after not even trying to transfer my save data - including 90+ hours of Zelda - last year. I think it is at this point that they can go and fuck themselves. I’ll sell the piece of shit, regardless of how much I love Nintendo’s games.

Aye their UK customer service is dire, the US seems amazing

What the fuck. I'm about to send my wonky left joycon to them for repair and I sure as shit won't be paying them to do it if they ask me to.

Ta for this - that's really useful. I was looking at whether there were any options for using last-gen sticks with it, and turned up this thing:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Fyoung-Controller-Converter-Nintendo-HANDHELD/dp/B0747K52CW

Which is dead cheap, and seems to come in a few variants (sometimes called a COOV N100, sometimes a.. fastsnail?).  More on it here:

They cover it for 12 months - if you have proof of purchase that shows it's less than 12 months old they'll cover it. If you don't, you might need to start waving that Consumer Goods stuff about...

Downloaded that there Sky Force for a play at lunch time... pretty smart so it is.

I’m really enjoying it still - to the extent that I’ve barely done a thing to my farm in Stardew Valley since downloading it!

Never send anything to the manufacturer as you throw all your rights away, always use the shop you bought it from!

(I sent my joy con direct to Nintendo when they were pretty new having said the above )

Problem with consoles though is that you are hoping to keep your saved data. If you go via the retailer you're stuffed there. But if that's not a consideration then I agree completely the retailer is always the best option.

Which of course wouldn't be a problem if Nintendo joined this decade and offered cloud saves.

If my Switch ever breaks and I lose all my data I will be beyond furious, it's genuinely unacceptable.

Well, it's 12 months and, what, two weeks since launch, so I'm outside the warranty period, I guess. Seems bizarre to me. The left joycon issue is something that affects every Switch, right? They should be fixing them free of charge for as long as they're selling them.

Why have you waited until now? I'd just fix it myself, cheaper and you don't have to be without one joycon for a week or whatever.

How do you go about that when the faulty item is a single joycon you bought as part of the overall console from an online retailer? Amazon or shopto or whatever are going to want the whole console back, no? They're not going to be interested in me sending back a single joycon. I kind of have to send it to Nintendo.

Ask them and see what they say explaining that you want to keep the console so as not to lose the saves. Failing that just fix it yourself.

It's only become a noticeable problem in the last few months and has very recently deteriorated to the point of unplayability. I'd originally been under the impression it only affected detached joycons which I had no intention of ever using, but it's affecting my joycon even when it's attached to the undocked Switch, inexplicably.

Also, what happens if I try to fix it then it turns out not to be the common problem. It's usually a Bluetooth strength thing or something, right?

I bought mine from amazon and they just credited me the amount to buy another one so I did. Tesco did the same for my faulty PS4 pad, well partial amount that pretty much covered a new pad.

Pretty cool of them. Somehow I don't think Nintendo.com (where I bought mine directly) or shopto are going to do that though.
