I sent my left Joy-con back to Nintendo for repairs as it kept cutting out. A common failt with early models I think.

They’ve said I need to pay £29 for the repair. Isn’t this basically the cost of a new one??

I disn’t provide proof of purchase as I bought it from a Mukker, but I gave then the serial number.

Shall I just buy a new one, or do I have grounds to get it fixed for free?

XL Team via Etsy, pricey but make me smile every time I use them so worth it

Can you direct me to the photos you took? Seem to remember they look a lot better in the flesh than on the Etsy website

Fix it yourself with conductive foam. The materials are cheap and it's easy to do. Don't pay £30.

Why shouldn't it be expected to? I found the combat in Zelda challenging especially at the start when I only had three hearts, weaker weapons and so on. And even later in the game I never found it a cakewalk.

I'm struggling to comprehend why something being simpler automatically makes it poorer or less involved.

The controls work perfectly without any lag so that it always feels as though you're in control timing dodges, melee attacks and parries etc. It always feels fluid and instant. The bow aiming and slowdown works wonderfully as does the extra fine touch and finesse aided by motion controls.

It all just works as you'd expect it to regardless of the complex simulation or open world environment.

It really feels now as though people are labouring a point which just isn't there.

Simplicity != easiness, and I'd never call BOTW's combat simple - quite the opposite, in terms of the sheer number of, and interplay between, systems and mechanics in play I'd say it's far more complex than most. I did find it easy, however, and for me that is an issue for a combat system.

It just feels a little bit wasted when the combat itself is so easy - particularly if you make use of food to buff yourself - so you have a wide variety of options, but relatively little need to use them unless you don't bother to keep a decent arsenal of weapons with you; not dissimilar to the Bioshock problem where you had a ton of options and powers, but didn't need them.

It's a preference thing, but while I find it fun to tinker and experiment, I find it a lot more satisfying if I feel like I'm being pushed to do so in order to succeed, rather than just for the sake of it (not unlike my finding The Phantom Pain overly easy to the point of undermining its stealth system). That BOTW never provided me with much in the way of challenge in its combat just left that aspect feeling less interesting than the rest of the game.

Perhaps I am labouring the point - the combat doesn't live in a vacuum and will never exist context-free, so judging it alone is semantics; I just didn't feel that someone criticising the game's combat should be treated as something wildly contrary or controversial!

I don’t ever expect them to add support for Bluetooth headphones. If it was technically possible it would have been there from the start.

The PSP Go managed it in 2009. I get that they're not keen on further congesting the 2.4Ghz spectrum and introducing controller interference, but I'd be quite happy if it only worked when using directly-attached joy-cons - indeed, that's literally the only circumstance where I want to use the damn things, when travelling. At the moment I have to carry around a second pair of legacy headphones, just for the Switch.

Oh I’d love it if they did support it for the same reasons as you. I’ve been using a Bluetooth dongle plugged into the headphone socket rather than keeping a separate pair of phones around for the switch.

Why not just use a USB bluetooth dongle?

EDIT: What Johnny5 said!

Doesn't really solve the problem for travel - I still need to carry a thing I wouldn't need to carry otherwise.

Are they USB powered, or does it throw another battery into the mix? I'd be using them with AirPods.

They are tiny - you'd really not notice you were carrying it - and yes they are USB powered. You'd just keep it in your carry case with the Switch.

Something like this one: http://amzn.eu/if8oAgr

Not sure if they work with AirPods though, no direct experience there myself. Might have to do the pairing on a PC or something first.

Full disclosure, I just use a set of PlayStation wireless headphones and they came with their own dongle.

Either I've completely lost the thread or... that won't work, the Switch doesn't have a USB port!

Surely you mean something like this:

Disclaimer: I only use 'legacy' headphones, I don't do quality loss via bluetooth etc. I just searched "bluetooth headphone adapter" on Amazon.

Admittedly, it's pretty stupid that you are buying a bluetooth adaptor to use with a device that has bluetooth, but hey.

My bad, obviously you also need a USB C adapter as well. I've got them coming out of my ears, and they also are tiny:

Stick the bluetooth adapter into that, then stick the lot into Switch.

So that's two extra gadgets, and I can't charge at the same time, to replicate a feature which should be built-in. I think I'll just take an old pair of earbuds in my Hori case, TBH, and keep grumbling about it.

I might be wrong, but I was under the impression there was a pretty simple technical reason it wasn't a built-in feature - something to do with the joy-cons already using bluetooth and the total number of concurrent connections the standard allowed.

I could be talking bollocks though.

None of the current gen consoles can use Bluetooth headsets, must be an issue with controllers and sound being on BT at the same time - even Sony’s own wireless headset needs a dongle to work on PS4.

But then the PS4 has a headset socket built into the controller... Suppose it depends on how the various companies implement the bluetooth standard....

I really wish PS4 did support Bluetooth headphones though; I mostly play using an arcade stick which had no headphone port.

Switch supporting them would be great too; I use wireless headphones for music but I have to bring a spare cable in case I decide to play Switch while I'm out (I generally just play on mute).

The Switch can use eight concurrent joy-cons via bluetooth. Based on that, I'm sure it could use two plus two bluetooth earbuds. No-one's going to want to use bluetooth earbuds in a multiplayer situation anyway.

The fact that plugging in a USB Bluetooth controller and using that works fine suggests that it's not that the 2.4Ghz spectrum becomes unbearably congested if you send audio too.

I use one of these cheap Bluetooth transmitters. Stuck a bit of Velcro to the back of it and the Switch which stops it flapping about. Mate of mine uses a similar setup with EarPods, but has a transmitter with an angled jack lead, which is far tidier.
