Make sure you redeem points on physical purchases.

Just put the cart in and press the plus button whilst highlighting it and go down to "My Nintendo Rewards Programme" and it'll take you through the rest.

Got 40-60 points for each title I just did and had £4.86 to spend so got Steamworld Heist for a tenner.

You get 1% on carts, 5% on digital content from the eShop. Before today, it was 1% on everything.

It's not much, but it is essentially free money that you can use to spend on anything you want. And they always give you the % of the full retail price as well, regardless of the purchase price (so if you buy an eShop game in a sale, you get credit for it at full price regardless).

But I've got 7 carts (Skyrim, Mario Kart, Arms, Zelda, Splatoon 2, Mario Odyssey, Lego City) and 5 Eshop games (Steamworld Dig 2, Fast RMX, Rocket League, Stardew Valley, and OxenFree) yet ive only got 200 points so theres no way its working out at 1% for me.

Have you requested the points on all the carts? Have you spent any before now? Have any expired?

I believe the points are also split by region - so if you've picked up stuff from other region eShops the points will only be available in that same region.

This coin nonsense isn’t worth bothering with. The rewards are so meagre and such a hassle it looks like I’d have to spend thousands just to get one free game. Fuck that.

I logged in just now to find I had £7's worth of points already, so picked up Celeste for a tenner. Seeing as the only hassle involved was buying games and receiving free money I think I'm fine with it. ;)

It's 5% cashback on digital purchases. That you can spend directly on the eShop in any amount. Don't see what's so complicated or pointless about that really.

I assume you need to use the scratch cards supplied and enter a long code.

No you just register them by putting them in your Switch then pressing + for options and select register game. I think I may have missed a couple somewhere.

Hmmm odd one - what does your points log look like - is everything on there - anything obvious missing? Anything expired?

I understand they owe us nothing and it's free money, but I wish I'd waited to register mine. I've just got 40 points for registering my 1-2 Switch cart and 50 for ARMS. I usually redeem them on purchase I must have just forgotten.

Thing is prior to today my carts have generally been getting 14 points. So I don't know how that works. I got 16 for Zelda, but 1% of £60 Isn't 16 pence, which is what I got.

If I'd had waited to register them I'd have 3 or 4 times as many now.

They used to give you less coins per purchase than they do now, so any games you registered with them in the past have dramatically lower values. Basically early adopters got screwed with the coin rates.

E.g My physical copy of Zelda which I registered last March gave me a measly 16 gold coins. If I registered it today it would give me 1% of £60 (based on the eShop price) so I would get 60p which now equals 60 gold coins. So registering a physical copy now gives you roughly 3 to 4 times the coins it used to.

You can see the amount of coins you were given for each purchase here (although it doesn't provide the game name): https://my.nintendo.com/point/history

It really is unfair how you've been screwed over if you registered your games before today. I got 12 points for Dragon Quest Builders which I only registered yesterday. Today I would have got 40.

Sure, but they have been telling us this will happen for some time now.

The cashback on physical purchases is so poor that I find it hard to care, but anyone who bought a lot of eShop titles before today definitely got screwed.

E.g I bought Mario Kart 8 digitally on release and got 70 coins, whereas a £50 eShop purchase today would give me 250 coins.

It's only a couple of quid at the end of the day but multiply that by 10 purchases over a year and you could buy a brand new indie for that.

Basically Nintendo just pulled the original coin values out of their ass and had no plan for what to do with them.

Yeah it's misleading though isn't it. It makes you think you were earning those points and then from the 6th you can spend them. It's not clear that if you wait to redeem your physical purchases you'd get 4x as many points.
