Eurogamer are confirming the "Bandai Namco are the developers working on MP4" story now.

Internet rumours this week pegged Bandai Namco as being the mystery studio behind Metroid Prime 4 - something multiple sources have now confirmed to Eurogamer as being accurate.

Specifically, the highly-anticipated Nintendo Switch exclusive is being developed by Bandai Namco Studios Singapore, which we understand is lead studio on the game in collaboration with Nintendo.

This studio houses some former LucasArts Singapore staff who previously worked on, among other things, the ambitious cancelled Star Wars 1313.

They haven't confirmed shit, it's the same as before. Take Eurogamer sources with a pinch of salt, they have mixed results. Remember Pokemon Stars?

Oh, I hope that means the Ridge Racer rumour is true too.

I know right, how good would a decent Ridge Racer be on Switch! I just hope they remember why it's good, and don't get too caught up in trying to make it something else more complex...

Yeah, but then also remember they nailed the concept of Switch with the removable controllers etc as well. I think this one is pretty solid now personally.

Well that’s fallen right down my most anticipated list.

Why? How many people said the same when it was revealed Retro were working on a 3D Metroid I wonder? Who did you want to be developing it?

Nintendo

They've not developed a Metroid title in-house for donkeys though - and NEVER a 'Prime' series game. It was never going to be Nintendo - in fact one of the very few things they did confirm when they announced it, was that it wasn't them.

I had high hopes that Nintendo would turn the series on its head like they’ve done Zelda.

Now we are probably going to get a Federation Force game or shitty Prime rip-off made by the clowns who live off Tekken and Pacman remakes every year. :(

Nintendo took the very unusual step for them of teasing a game that was still a long way off. They did this because they know it's one that the fans love and want to see. They know it's important, I think they've earned a little bit of trust with this 'game-making' malarky. I'd bet Hitler's preserved bollock it'll be fab.

This is a fairly new studio, the team working on it apparently consists of ex Lucas Arts staff and they've no doubt been hiring specifically for this project. They also worked on Smash Bros for Wii U/3DS and Pokken Tournament, and those were well received. Nintendo aren't just palming it off willy nilly, it's a big game of huge importance in gamer/critical circles.

Hopefully we'll see something of it this year but I'm guessing Q4 2019 release.

Yeah. Dark Souls and Ni no Kuni are fucking shite.

They weren't the developers of either of those, they only published them. Ni No Kuni was Level 5 and Dark Souls is From Software.

Metroid has never been a huge seller, so like F-Zero and Star Fox, it gets farmed out now as internal dev gets left for the stuff with actual sales potential these days. The only huge sellers which aren't internally developed are Pokémon and Smash Bros, but neither were invented internally either.

Bandai-Namco did dev on the last Smash Bros game, they also did the GameCube Star Fox game and 2 Mario Kart Arcade titles so have an established relationship with Nintendo, not to mention the Monolith Soft connection.

Whilst Metroid isn't a massive seller, they've placed a lot of importance on MP4, making it somewhat of a vanity project. They'll definitely be pushing the boat out, particularly in light of how well Breath of The Wild was received.
