Do buy the Pro controller though, especially for longer telly sessions and especially especially if you have big hands.

I have big hands - indeed, I could probably crush your puny skull like a grape with just one of them. And I find the dainty joycons totally fine. But then I nearly always play with them split.

In fact, my preferred split joycon gaming position is to have my arms crossed, like one of the Village People performing YMCA.

I played 40 minutes of Steamworld Dig 2 when it came out and loved it but ended up getting distracted by a steady stream of other games I kept compulsively buying. Now I'm sitting here with the first Steamworld Dig downloaded and I guess that's where my evening is going.

Yeah, I think it's this; I sit (well, slouch) about 6 feet away from the Switch with los, but it sometimes doesn't 'take' on first press; I then press and hold the home key. I suspected it might be a 'debounce' protection after you momentarily depress another key when you pick up the Pro controller.

I usually wait a second for the lights to stop flickering, then press and hold the Home button.

Thanks. Good to know it isn’t just me.

In regards to pro controller or not. I have average size hands and prefer the pro. I liked the idea of having the joycon split but think it is dependent on the game. Mario works fine but zelda was a chuffing nightmare for me. Especially if you use motion controls to help aim (which I do).

Plus, I’ve been using the pro controller for several weeks and still not had to charge it up after its first charge out the box!  Must be made by Stark industries or something.

Why they can't just link your account to Google Drive or Dropbox or something I fucking don't know. Amazed Sony doesn't do this either. Do Microsoft sync saves to OneDrive?

No, not OneDrive, but all Xbox One saves are automatically synced with Xbox Live - regardless of whether you pay for Xbox Live Gold or not.

Why the hell isn't there a Monster Hunter on the Switch yet, in the West?!

I've been severely tempted to get MH:W on my Xbox......but I don't want it because my big-screen time is limited. There's no way I'll be able to scratch the surface of the game playing on Xbox. My kids are always playing Fortnite or my wife is watching TV. I've actually dug out the 3DS and am playing an old Monster Hunter. I love being able to play anywhere, sofa, bed, lunchtime at work, toilet!

It's funny how Switch makes me want EVERY game to be portable. Surely they will bring it out on Switch at some point?

Split Joycon is a lovely way to play.

Just to add to the mix, I have an 8bitdo SF30Pro.  I've never used a Pro controller, so perhaps I'm the one missing out, but playing Rayman Legends at the moment, which has digital movement, on a SNES D-pad, with SNES face buttons is a joy.

I've played a bit of Zelda on it and the motion controls and analogue sticks are fine, and I fine it pretty comfy too.  It also seems to have a very good battery life, and of course can be used on other platforms if that's your thing.

Back to the paid online sub.. What's the change from the original announcement?  From single / rotating classic game to library?

Problem is, the success of World shows the punters don't want a "normal" MH.

Yeah if they've not tried one before they could be put off by the design of the older ones.

It'll be interesting to see what Capcom does here because historically MH has always done well, at least in Japan, on handheld. So that's how a lot of the core players like it, but now it's doing well on home consoles too. Switch would therefore seem like the ideal home for it, but then it probably lacks the power to do World. I wouldn't mind a graphical downgrade if they could port it somehow.

No. They’re done with it. They’re moving on.

This. They allow direct posting to Twitter now - I suspect, if anything, they'll just make more direct options available. I think they realized maintaining their own platform was more hassle than just using ones already there that other people have to worry about.

I get the vague impression they're trying to downplay anything percieved as "Wii-ish" in an attempt to make a cleaner break. Miis are in SwitchOS, but you have to dig to find them - by default it'll ask you to pick a logo or character art avatar for your account, with the Mii option being squirrelled away.

Personally, I like Miis so I'm glad they're still there. But I can't say I miss the novelty Mii stuff (e.g. Everybody Votes, Mii Parade) from the Wii/Wii U.

Can you browse/buy from the eShop before getting the Switch? Mine is coming today but I wouldn't mind buying a couple of smaller games whilst I wait for it.

You can browse it online but its laid out really badly if you dont know what you want.  I think you can only purchase after you have accessed the eshop via the Switch at least once.

No. You need to access the eShop at least once from your Switch before you can buy online. Once you've done that though, yes you can buy online and it'll download automatically.

Cheers.

This is gonna be a shock to the system coming from the rock solid, slick PSN. Still looking forward to it.

The online store works fine and auto downloads once you've logged in  on the Switch.  The game downloads, even AAA Nintendo stuff like Mario and Zelda are much, much smaller downloads than you're used to, and finding the shop (and well anything) in the Switch UI is infinitely simpler than the Playstation experience (and sheer joy compared to the abysmal Microsoft effort)

Don't really see why you'd want to buy a digital game with no console to download it to in advance anyway, buying doesn't exactly take long, and it's not exactly going to pre-download from inside the delivery box..    (well, I guess if there was a sale ending before your console arrived..)

Zelda updated yesterday for me. Do they publish changelogs?

Breath of the Wild Version 1.5.0 (Switch and Wii U)

You can now select Chinese (Traditional), Chinese (Simplified), or Korean in the language settings menu on the Switch console to display text in the selected language.

Voice Language selection is not supported for the above languages. If you choose “Match System Settings” in Options, voice data will be set to Japanese.

Various fixes to improve gameplay.
