Does anyone know of any issues where the pro controller struggles to wake the switch up? It has been struggling a bit and I only sit about 2 meters away. I presume it doesn’t need line of site.

I’ve found that it does indeed need los to wake it up. Once it’s on it’s fine.

I'm looking for a good slow paced game for playing in bed, my go to game was Stardew but I'm pretty much done with that, just want something that doesn't require my brain to be fully functioning like Splatoon or Rocket League, something that doesn't require button mashing etc. Any suggestions?

Mate.

Gungeo- okay maybe not for bed time.

It can't need los because my Switch is hidden behind my (HD Ready) TV.

Also, it's not infrared.

Yup, I know it’s not infrared. I have two official docks. If I don’t have a clear los it doesn’t start up. As @Shimmyhill says, I still have to give it a good press, too. Perhaps it’s more that- the Switch is looking for something more than a quick press to stop accidental power up.

That sounds like the original idea. Does it include cloud saves?

Classic Game Selection*

Members will have ongoing access to a library of classic games with added online play, such as Super Mario Bros. 3, Balloon Fight and Dr. Mario.

*Name subject to change.

“Ongoing basis” doesn’t sound like a monthly rotation to me.

Yeah they didn’t announce anything new about the service today, other than the date, Polygon are just saying the original stuff there.

All they said today was they’re working on “very attractive programs and content”.

September is right before holiday season starts up so it’s reasonable to assume they’ve got something of their own coming to push the service + some third party big hitters.

Switch online service has been announced. $3.99 a month or $19.99 a year and includes access to 'classic titles' on a monthly rotation. It sounds like you lose access to them once the month is up which seems an odd choice.

They already announced this months ago then changed it, but "on rotation" would probably mean each would be there for several months with different titles coming and going. Like the Xbox Game Pass subscription or Netflix.

I folded and bought one today. (£20 off Amazon with this code - VG20OFF150)

So it's coming tomorrow with Mario. I'll have to leave Zelda for a bit.

Is there anything else I need immediately? I take it the console has memory for save files so I don't need a card yet?

You won't need anything for a while, saves go into the built in memory.

I've got quite a few downloaded games and yet to get an extra SD card.

Enjoy Mario, get Zelda when you're done.

I would get a screen protector, although the screen glass is apparently pretty tough. A case too, if you plan to take it out.

The Pro Controller is great if you find the joy cons a bit uncomfortable. However, if you are only going to be playing Mario for a while then no need as it is best controlled with joycons separated, with one in each hand.

Welcome to the party, pal.

Does anyone know of some sort of grip that can be put on the joycons in portable mode? Basically just to make them a bit longer. I don't have huge hands but I feel like I could do with something on the bottom edge to brace against my palms.

I am starting to feel that the controls are a bit fiddly and small and think this could help. Ideally this would be something I can easily put on/take off as I play on the train and need to put the switch in a case afterwards.

Yeah, I think it's this; I sit (well, slouch) about 6 feet away from the Switch with los, but it sometimes doesn't 'take' on first press; I then press and hold the home key. I suspected it might be a 'debounce' protection after you momentarily depress another key when you pick up the Pro controller.

I usually wait a second for the lights to stop flickering, then press and hold the Home button.

Where'd you get the code from?

Update from Nintendo:

"Nintendo Switch Online subscribers will have ongoing access to a library of classic games with added online play. Users can play as many of the games as they want, as often as they like, as long as they have an active subscription."

Yeah, that's different to the original announcement last year.

Why they can't just link your account to Google Drive or Dropbox or something I fucking don't know. Amazed Sony doesn't do this either. Do Microsoft sync saves to OneDrive?

Because hacked saves are a common means for softmodding other consoles. Same reason we can't put saves on SD cards.

Then encrypt them. It isn't hard. You can put PS4 and Xbox 360 saves on USB drives, so it's no different.

EDIT: In fact, my Vita saves are already backed up to Google Drive in a roundabout way.
