The current CEO, Kimishima said they need to keep on coming out with unique stuff to attract new people, especially those who aren't dedicated game fans if they want to get anywhere close to Wii levels of success, which managed to attract the sort of people who couldn't give a fuck about dedicated gaming devices prior or since. As they've since announced Nintendo Labo, that was clearly the first step in their audience expansion plans for 2018. It's capturing a wider market of gamers (outside of the Nintendo core that was basically the Wii U audience) because the hardware has some appeal and because the software breadth and quality is there. I know about a half dozen Switch owners in person and a few more by extension. Some of these are long-time gamers. Nintendo are nowhere near the casual market yet - they’re hoovering up existing Nintendo fans, and PlayStation and Xbox owners who didn’t buy a Wii U. The 'dock' is also hiding my capture card underneath along with keeping the wires all together. If I get some time once the weather improve I'll make something a bit tidier with wood. Yeah it's hard to argue with really and not a bad thing either. They've obviously deliberately targeted those customers to begin with as every game is aimed at them, even 1-2 Switch. Shock - games they have released on Switch have outsold games they haven't so far. More news as it breaks. Let's see how 'Labo' goes.... Also, are we seriously going to argue that the male 25-34 demographic is the Nintendo Core now? I thought that was kids and parents? It seems like the argument against Nintendo doing well moves all over the shop as needed - anything apart from just saying "yep, they are doing well". Dirty Harry Potter Posted January 22, 2018 Share Posted January 22, 2018 Totally anecdotal but its amazing how many of the kids in my son's class (he's 8) have gotten Switches (So far 6 of 30). There are friends of his begging their parents to trade in their Xbox One S's/PS4's for a Switch as they perceive the GFX to be better, and that's what all there friends now have.
