We don't really know. Giant Robot's tech-demo bedfellow, Starfox Zero's control and movement engine, was the most controversial/most inconsistently seductive part of Platinum's game. It had plenty of lovers but didn't speak to the majority. Same with Starfox Guard. It could be something slim that is legitimised by the novelty, or sheer fun, of the Labo side of things.

This is Nintendo's MO these days.

Potentially great games ruined by shitty controls.

My favourite feature of the Switch is the return of the SNES button layout.

Ruined is a pretty strong word, would you care to elaborate?

Wow, that’s very a good explanation. Makes a lot of sense to me. I too witnessed many people being unaware that the Wii U was even a new and different console to the Wii.

(Interestingly, basically every non-gamer I showed my Wii U to loved it, and to be honestly were more impressed the central gimmick than I ever was. Perhaps if Nintendo hadn’t massively messed up on the product name and image, maybe they could have had more much success with the Wii U?)

Nintendo remembering to advertise this time has massively helped.

We all remember the ads for Wii and DS. Can anyone remember any WiiU adverts? It's like they thought keeping the Wii name would mean they didn't need to spend any money on marketing.

To a lot of people, the Wii U never existed. Anecdotally I knew loads of people who had Wiis and assumed the Wii U was just another Wii. They didn't know it was a separate machine or what the tablet controller did and that spoke to the major problem Nintendo had with the platform.

But the flip side is that for many, the Switch is the next Nintendo console. Like they went away and did something else or got a PS4/Xbox One and now this is the new thing. If you ask people what they think Nintendo did in the meantime, they probably couldn't tell you.

This seems pretty unconvincing too, we had lots of anecdotes about people thinking the Wii U was a controller, but when told it was a new console, none of the anecdotes ended with them rushing out to buy it - there was no pent up demand! There was just no demand.

Sorry to revisit a topic I know has been covered but, on the subject of power “bricks” for travelling with the switch.

We have a USB big power bank thing that is something like 22,000 .. it’s this one

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00F5Q4F0U/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_rYByAbM42PMYZ

Will this sufficiently charge the Switch?

If I wanted to play and charge, would I need something else?

The plane will probably have USB sockets but I’m not sure if they’ll be powerful enough to charge off so wanting to cover bases

thank you :)

It’ll be fine. It will charge the Switch when you’re not using it and will extend the battery life while playing. I don’t know if it’ll give enough power to charge the switch battery while you play though, probably depends on how demanding the game is.

16 hours of flying would be a lot more fun if it included 10 hours of Mario, say :)

I could be completely wrong here, but I think it was @grungekid who was asking about broken joy con latches too.

Turns out they're called joy con buckles and they are selling metal replacements on eBay.

I've ordered that set because my shithead son has broken 3 out of the 4 joy cons we own.

Games were seen as universally dorky until the Wii came along?!

Sorry, this is nonsense.

To non gamers, yes. The Wii broke through to a group of people who had previously regarded videogames as being childlike or for nerds. Mums and such.

Yup I dropped my switch off the couch on carpet and it put a dint in one of them so they wouldn't latch correctly. Ended up selling the joycons as a second pair to someone on here and getting a new set... Gutted

What point did you guys get up to in Stardew before you stopped playing it? I've been playing it exclusively since the start of the month and have only just got up to the winter of my first year. I think it's a great game, but as it doesn't have an 'ending' as such and, like others sims, could potentially go on forever, I think I need to draw a line for when I'll have 'completed' it, otherwise I'll never play anything else.

Come back once you've finished all of the community center tasks. ;)

(also there's a Stardew Valley thread)
