I think that theory is kind of beautiful, I like it. Just watched the movie myself; fucking fantastic. 
 

Did anyone else feel though that it warped time somehow? It just flew for me, no pun intended. Adds more credence to that theory too.

Just seen it for the first time as part of a TG double bill. Yes it’s Star Wars. Yes its redemption arc is laid on super thick.

 

But goddamn it’s still fucking brilliant, and is quite a bit better than the first film. Lovely, spectacular stuff.

It’s not the same experience on a 55” tv as an IMAX screen, but this is still an excellent bit of cinema, and it sounds as good here.

Saw this last night - got exactly what I expected, in a good way. Cockpit action was intense, characters likeable, cheese intact. Good.

 

I did like how the very first opening scene set expectations - the way the busy carrier deck was shot reminded me of those action films where you'd open on a busy city (miami or something); bustling with activity, heat haze, quick cuts, lots of long-focus. Cinematography evocative of a very particular genre to me.

Just watched it, thought it was absolute bobbins. Cynical, obvious button pushing like the Ed Sheeran of movies. 
Cinematography and performances were amazing g though.

Watched this twice at home now following the cinema trip and each time I've appreciated something different about it. It is an absolutely incredible piece of movie making and what they have achieved with it I dont think will ever get the appreciation it deserves. An old mate of mine and I used to always debate the difference between movies and films, because there is a difference. Maverick is a decent film... but it is also one of the greatest movies ever made. 

 

There are so many great moments but Coffin Corner has to be one of the most incredibly shot, scored and executed scenes in action movie history. The fact its just a beat in a much bigger and more visually stunning set piece says everything about the movie.

Finally saw this and while yes, I did enjoy it, I couldn't help thinking that the admiral was right and they should have just used drones for the mission. Or even cruise missiles. Did they address why that wouldn't work, and it had to be human pilots, at any point?

They mention GPS jamming and obviously the AA missles. The premise being they have to use old equipment and human pilots as nothing else will work.

GPS jamming, I guess, but they avoided the AA missiles by flying low so I don't see why they couldn't do the same with a drone.

I think the GPS jamming is the catch all for this. Its all glossed over pretty quickly, I guess they don't want to dwell on it too much

Think they skipped specifying the enemy jets (in this case SU-57 Felons) because they'd be linked to certain countries who currently own and fly them.

 

There was also some throwaway line about why the US didn't use F-35s, think that was tied to the brief drone conversation too (in reality it's because they're single seat jets, so the actors wouldn't have been able to film in them)

This has made $1.4 Billion worldwide so far at the box office, which I thought was pretty impressive until I saw that 9 of the top 10 films in pre-pandemic 2019 made over a billion each with the top movie, Avengers Endgame, making $2.8 billion.

Finally got round to this after not going to see it at the cinema. Emma is not the biggest fan of the original so it put her off big style, and I was alright to wait for a home release, where she would feel easier about telling me to turn it off and watch it without her, but she was flipping glued all the way. To the point of sighing at me needing the toilet. 

 

It really is one of the best movies I have seen in years, and Everything Everywhere All At Once is the only other. 

 

The scene with Kilmer had me welling up, infarct numerous scenes did. Both out of nostalgic bliss (even though it did not feel forced), and the emotional components. 

 

Also, you can tell the director is an artist. Some of those shots against the skyline at the start, are nothing short of sensational.

This has got to be one of the most impressive action set piece things I've seen in a while whilst also being total bollocks.

Cheesy characters, dialogue, music, everything. Can't say I was even the slightest bit emotionally engaged but it certainly looks cool.

 

Calling the people they were bombing simply The Enemy as well... Couldn't be more hoo-ra 'Merica if it tried

It's a rare sequel in that it makes the first film better.

 

It's makes the big emotional scenes in the first film ring even deeper, because it says, yeah these characters are still dealing with this almost 40 years later, because they would be.
