Top Gun: Maverick

Imagine your biggest complaint in 2022 being that women in a movie arent being sexualised and exploited.

Also imagine saying that about a movie that's a sequel to another movie that features one of the most homoerotic scenes in Hollywood Blockbuster history

This becomes available to purchase tomorrow doesn't it? Already pre-ordered for 13.99 on Apple. Can't wait to see it again. And again.

I noticed last night it was up on Sky Box Office for buy and keep, so it’s definitely imminent if not already available.

EDIT - available on 24th, but only in HD/Bluray/DVD. No UHD yet.

Plenty of 4k DV/HDR copies of the digital releases around now. UHD disc will still be the best option eventually.

Really? Nothing on Newsgroups.

EDIT: Found 3 torrents with it. Though I don't like that route...

It’s so lovely that the first part of your post suggests you might be an idiot and the second half utterly confirms it with no room for error or subjectivity.

WHAT!? He gives context and reason for his spot on observation and you mock him for not agreeing with consensus?

Top Gun Maverick is a forgettable sugar high of Movie adrenaline after a covid drought. It's akin to Four Weddings and a Funeral after Diana's death. It almost exists in a 100% terrible plane of everything that is wrong with cinema. The story sucks, the characters are awful, the plot is non-existent. However, we all needed a release and a spectacle and it has this amazing photography and daring do that only cinema can provide. As such it was the right product at the right time. Like chupa chups during Thatcher's Britain. But there is no argument that it is not disposable trash. it won't be remembered as an example of good cinema beyond it's aerial photography 5 years from now. Like Dam Busters....

Calling someone an idiot for being correct is a Dunning Kruger post.

And yes, I did see the pun.

It was more "oh this guy doesn't like Top Gun: Maverick, he's probably an idiot" followed up by "oh he's written loads of weird shit about the women being 'too covered up,' he's definitely an idiot."

And it will absolutely be remembered as how to make an action movie sing in a sea of identical super hero movies.

This is a good point and one I agree with. It WILL be remembered as better than its peers. For sure. We live in sad lazy times. It will be celebrated as a 'hark back'. it will never ever be revered alongside Robocop or Die Hard or Buster Keaton.... It's 'the best of a bad bunch'.

Excellent point.

Diana died 3 years after Four Weddings & A Funeral came out.

Hanzo's statement that "It's an 80s film struggling to survive in the 2020's." is 50% wrong. It hasn't, in any way, struggled to survive.

Then I still don't get the point you're making, really, but I guess they seem like good catchy statements when you type them out.

It's ok to say "Top Gun Maverick is shit". It's absolute cool to not be invested or enjoy it. It's even appropriate to write it off as a training movie for attacking the Death Star. It's also wrong to call someone an idiot based on holding any of those views. But Hanzo's "pun" about the burkha was bullshit, undermined his entire view of the movie and made him come across like a dipshit.

My point was super simple. Top Gun Maverick is not as good a film as people are proclaiming and they themselves will admit as much as time progresses. It was the right film at the right time.

I agree it doesn't make anyone an idiot.

I'm comfortable with that. I'm either correct or incorrect. And time will bare that out. Hurling insults is a little pathetic and quite frankly beneath me. Calling a stranger 'a bit of a twat' doesn't shower you in glory.

Can we talk about why Paramount Plus hold up releasing movies on their platform but Disney have an excellent and consistent approach which makes me feel very valued as a customer? :) I LOVE Maverick and I would have rented it a few weeks ago to watch again if the way its being managed wasn't so obviously designed to bleed every penny out of consumers.

I didn't call you one, I said you were being one. Subtle difference. ;) What's really pathetic is you spouting your opinion as fact and projecting that onto everyone else. 😐

Yeah, Paramount + is a bit shit. I enjoyed Scream (2022) as a new film, and also Star Trek Prodigy and Halo. But I can only watch it on my projector, there is no dedicated TV app, and the total content available is ... not great. In fairness, when D+ first launched it didn't have a huge amount either (just Disney, Marvel, and Star Wars really), none of the Starz stuff etc.  So maybe it will get better...

Top Gun Maverick is a great film, I'm looking forward to watching it again soon. :)

Because the cinema experience is a huge part of it and it's making money in cinemas still so why home release so early? It'll be there eventually.

Because they have a service that is designed specifically to give its customers premium access to content within these timescales, but are holding it back so they get the further income of people buying it digital. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 still isn't on the UK platform, so the only reason for this must be to keep milking the digital income.

I have P+ through Sky Cinema so get it basically for free, but Maverick feels like the kind of thing that could have really propelled the platform forward if it was handled correctly. Anyway, this is more of a P+ chat so will leave it there.

Back on track... Maverick is the movie of the year for so many reasons. It would have been the movie of the year if it was released when it was originally intended and it was even more so being released this year.
