DKR is fine, it's definitely better than a lot of Batman comics. But it's a bad example.

Someone said Batman shouls be big and muscly, I said that Batman isn't generally big and muscly, so the original elseworlds Batman who was designed to be a departure from the standard interpretation of Batman isn't a great counter example.

Also I would rather Marvel didn't just make basically the same movie over and over again, but that doesn't mean I want garbage Marvel films made by idiots who hate Marvel. If it's the formula forever or someone as stupid as Snyder ruining Marvel, I'd take the formula.

While I didn't specifically say that, he should have muscle. I don't read the comics, but he is definitely portrayed as "larger than average" in the animated batman and justice league cartoons.

Patters doesn't seem like he's got any mass at all.

Batman's generally portrayed as being pretty beefy, isn't he? I've just had a flick through the ridiculously huge Grant Morrison Batman anthology, and Batman is similarly ridiculously huge. The same goes for Killing Joke and Long Halloween, he's absolutely jacked in both.

I generally love Bruce Timm's art, but I was never keen on the way that the Justice League cartoon presented Superman, Batman and Flash as being equally broad-chested!

I prefer it when artists make superheroes' builds and physiques loosely equivalent to athletes:

Superman/Shazam/Thor - Weight lifters/body builders/wrestlers/heavyweight boxers

Batman/Daredevil/Spider-Man - Gymnasts/swimmers

Flash/Cyclops/Silver Surfer - Runners

Batman's strong, but his main physical gimmick is not his strength, but his fighting skill and his agility (swinging across rooftops at night). So IMO he shouldn't look as bulky as Superman - or even as muscular as Captain America.

And ideally that should apply to live-action as well as comics, whether that's achieved by the actor bulking up, or through costume design tricks. Ben Affleck had the right build in Daredevil, but in the Batsuit he looked too muscular!

There is artistic license in comics and cartoons, obviously. But this is a plain jane human, who kicks the shit out of people with one punch, and hangs with Superman and Wonderwoman. Without superpowers, there's no way he can't be pretty much at the top of his physical game. Not Captain America, but supremely fit and strong.
