Top Gear - Series 24

It wouldn't be a surprise. It was up in the air if he would be back for this year and given the way the year is going, he certainly could.

Have a professional racing driver sucks all of the fun out of the racing challenges. But if they are trying something different hopefully that wouldn't be a problem.

I'm dubious about the Button rumour but I doubt it would be a case of either Formula 1 or Top Gear. I'm sure F1's schedule would allow time to do both and there is a three month winter break this year when the bulk of the series could easily be shot.

Its either going to be Button or Alonso out at the end of the year. From Mclaren anyway. They must be the most expensive team to run with two former world champions salary. What other team will pick up the cost of one of them?

Williams seems to be interested in Button, with a probable pay cut. Although on Ted's race note book he said, without any hesitation, that Mclaren had decided to pick up Button's option. That's why I'd be surprised to see Jenson choose Top Gear over a realistic extra year of F1.

Speaking of Sabine, who remembers that Guardian article from earlier this year:

"She has appeared from time to time on Top Gear in the past, and shown herself to possess exactly the right mix of knowledge and boisterousness for the job every time. Plus, she is both German and a woman, a combination of traits so alien to the majority of Top Gear viewers that the whole show would probably self-destruct within an hour of her taking the job. And surely, at this point, that would, as they say, be the best outcome for everyone involved."

:sealclap:

I really like Chris Harris, but he's perhaps the wrong person for Top Gear, which has historically been a show for people not interested in cars in the last few years.

I think the Telegraph described him as "virtually unknown Chris Harris", which would be the case with people not interested in cars (i.e. the Clarkson era Top Gear audience). But it felt like a bit of an insult.

He's a very good onscreen presence, though.

Yep, The Guardian unsurprisingly reporting bollocks about Harris and Schmitz.

The Harris bit was an insult and shows their ignorance.

The bit about Schmitz the same - Top Gear viewers will hate her as she's German and female? Must have missed the universal praise and like for her when she featured before. Guardian as usual showing they posses more prejudice than those they slag off.

Metro too.. claiming Evans has trouble talking and driving at the same time..

Plus a couple of laps of Laguna Seca with Sabine driving made him.. a bit unwell..

Worst one is here though.. if true, production is having major issues..

-Evans apparently crashed a brand new Jaguar tester on his first time around the famed Top Gear track.
-The show “has had to become a lot more PC following the Clarkson row,”
-Evans, called a “control freak,” at odds with producers - wants ownership over the show like longtime producer Andy Wilman had. BBC says there’s too much at stake for a show worth “more than £50 million a year” in merchandising, live events and other revenue sources. They want Evans to give up his radio work to focus on Top Gear, he's not willing to do that.
-Evans also apparently isn’t very good at pre-recorded videos, which is about 95% of the show.
-The production team apparently “doesn’t know much about cars,” leading to Top Gear magazine staff being brought in to suggest ideas.
-The mainstream public doesn't know or care about Coulthard, Schmitz and Harris, story says Evans wants them because they’re relative unknowns outside the car world, and he wants to stay the star of the show.

Should have took my advice...let the show die for 5yrs then do a comeback when people no longer care about the Clarkson debacle.

..all they're going to do with this series is lose the audience, both domestic and foreign.
