Xbox One backwards compatibility - sales until the heat death of the universe

Recommended Posts

ResetEra seem to think we're getting some OG Xbox games tonight.

Indiana Jones and the Emperors Tomb

Unreal Championship 2

Pirates

Armed and Dangerous

They've all been added to the store today, but aren't available to buy.

Personally, from a preservation point of view, I'm happy we're still getting older Xbox games. We haven't had any for over a year.

Only interested in Indiana Jones, though. I loved that.

Last batch of 23 games were announced this evening, along with the ending of the program.  Over 600 games in total. It's been a good run.

Awww. Shame.  You're right though.  It's been a really good run.   The BC team have moved onto Scarlet stuff I thinkl?

Yep, they are now making sure every game that runs on XB1 runs on scarlett.

Officially no Tenchu ever, then, and that's a particularly uninspiring final set of original Xbox titles :(

X-enhanced Nuts and Bolts is something I'm very excited for, however, as performance issues are that games only real flaw, and Asura's Wrath, Enchanted Arms and Skate are welcome as games with no other modern ways of playing them, too (plus Star Ocean and Too Human as guilty pleasures...)

I hope Scarlett has some magic emulation layer that allows this work to continue.

Microsoft is now focusing on making these titles work perfectly fine on Project Scarlett, it’s next-gen Xbox console. The company is focusing on allowing thousands of Xbox titles from all the four generations work on Scarlett. “As such, we have now shifted our focus to help make the games you love playing on Xbox One compatible with future Xbox hardware. After this week, we have no plans to add additional Original Xbox or Xbox 360 titles to the catalog on Xbox One, but we’re excited to continue our work on Xbox compatibility across platforms and devices, which remains a top priority,” Microsoft said.

Yeah, I heard the four generations thing. I just want games that are already supported to remain so.

There's no magic, just teams of programmers working out how to get software to address new hardware.

Gee, really?

No Tenchu, Otogi, Riddick, Out Run, Shaolin Monks, or Hulk Ultimate Destruction makes me sad :( Understandable though that the team needs to work on the NextBox stuff. Maybe once everything is up and running and full BC with XB1 is a done deal, they'll revisit a few older Xbox classics

Sorry, I know someone on the graphics chip BC team and often think that people don't realise how involved a process it is and that when terms like "emulation layer" are used, I know some people think "that's where the emulation button is". Perhaps I was slightly triggered there for some odd reason. Apologies.

Really was hoping for an enhanced Max Payne 3 and GTA IV (enhanced) but Phil Spencer has confirmed that they intend to get everything up and running on Scarlett, and that all peripherals will work as well.

No problem, I think my liberal use of "magic" was open to being interpreted in an unintended way. I'm impressed that MS have remained committed to it, frankly.
