Xbox One backwards compatibility - sales until the heat death of the universe

Recommended Posts

...people will realise they aren't charging anything for backwards compatibility and are the only company doing it and should be a little more appreciative that it exists at all.

A little more appreciative? They’re not doing it out of the goodness of their hearts. They introduced it to sell more consoles.

It’s clear that this is no longer remotely a priority for them though as the quality of games being made backwards compatible has nosedived in recent weeks.

In the last few weeks we've had the Lost Planet Trilogy, Ace Combat 6, Crackdown 2 (your mileage may vary in that one) and Resident Evil: Code Veronica X. That's not bad.

Have you forgotten that it's not just a case of making the games work but also getting the publisher onboard as well?

Turns out the original Xbox version of GTA San Andreas is also backward compatible. It downloads as the Xbox 360 version though. How very strange. I always assumed the Xbox 360 release was just the Xbox version running via the Xbox emulator, however CEX sell the original Xbox version for £5 and the 360 version for £20.

I think the 360 Xbox live version is the mobile version ported or something. I can't remember exactly but there's some weird fuckery about it.

Yeah it is. I’m still surprised that the original Xbox disk works though. Are there any other games that were released on both the original Xbox and 360 that work the same way with BC?

If they have sorted the framerates I may actually cum...

They should have - and it's usually the case. I mean, even EDF2017 runs at a solid 60 on Xbox BC. It's never guaranteed, but there's a very good chance you'll get to, uhm, cum

Fable 2 and 3 are all X enhanced as well.

Ooh, that's delightful news. I may give them a replay at some point - see if Fable 2 is as good as I remember, and if Fable 3 is improved by lowered expectations!
