Ooh this looks amazing. A semi-realistic military game where you invade enemy bases using any approach and from any angle is a dream for me. The kind of thing I've wanted done properly since Project IGI turned out to be guff. It's what I was hoping GRAW would be all those years ago. It also looks like the single-player Battlefield Bad Company campaign I always wanted but they never managed to make.

EDIT: and it looks like I'll be able to explore places I've actually visited!

New trailer. This is one of my most anticipated games. Despite the risible tone of this latest trailer, in gameplay terms it has masses of potential. The freedom of MGSV but not shackled to the previous gen, the new focus of 'systemic' gameplay that Ubisoft seem to have and the slick third person stealth action Ubi have perfected in their other games. I really hope it delivers.

Only the 'squad of four, all the time' thing is worrying, but if the squad AI is decent and you can essentially tell them to hang back while you stealth through an enemy base, it might not ruin things. If nothing else at least it should be good in co-op.

E3 gameplay video. Even if every mission ends up being 'sneak into an enemy compound from any angle and kill or bag a dude, chasing him across the countryside in whatever vehicle comes to hand if he gets spooked' missions, then I'll be happy. That's basically my perfect gameplay loop.

The combat doesn't seem too hot to be honest. I can see why the press who've played it haven't been particularly kind on it. I can forgive all of the technical issues as it's pre-release software but really, looking at that I'd rather just play Just Cause 3. The environment itself looks good though.

What are you on about? That looks awesome! The reason it looks awesome is that it's totally free of scripted events. That video shows a group of four people not really knowing what they're doing tackling an objective in their own way and all the emergent hilarity that ensues. Give me that any day over scripted zombies bursting out of windows or tightly-scripted missions that don't allow any deviation.

Did you notice that the first part of that mission involved interrogating a target, but that one of the ghosts just mowed him down on a dirtbike after he fleed? The mission was failed, but the game carried on and the objective had to be completed another way (assaulting a much more heavily protected compound to hack a laptop). That's the business.

Sure it looks a bit janky, but it's 9 months from release and at least it actually looks like a real game where you'll be able to play it your way and actually be allowed to fuck up or deviate from the script. Also, regarding the gun-play, what Ubi game has had poor gunplay over the past few years? The Division, Rainbow Six, Splinter Cell, Far Cry, Watch Dogs - all have top-notch gunplay (and all types of action - cover, movement, stealth, AI etc) so I have faith that'll be tightened up. Also, it's clearly set to 'easy' judging my the amount of HP each ghost has. I expect that there'll be a 'Realistic' setting that means proper tactics and co-ordination are needed.

I think it looks a amazing - a proper sandbox.

Actually, this one is more worrying:

No cover mechanic wtf?

I dunno it has that Ubisoft fake plastic look.

Also there's something about its violence that's unsettling. I think its because it's drug war based.

All this neck-breaking takedowns and gunning down drug runners... something about it.

While that does look quite good (animations seem a bit stiff compared to MGSV) I can already see the Crowbcat video recreating that mission and getting spotted constantly while getting stuck on the environment and what not. Obviously it's a demo designed to showcase the best bits of the game but still, that was all smoother than a baby's bottom!

Let's hope it's actually good though.

I still think this has bags of potential, mainly because it seems to have genuinely open-ended design. I can imagine the final result being a bit clunky and buggy but still tonnes of fun.

I can't get over the lack of cover-stick, though. I mean, what's that about?
