Yeah - you can buy as many as you like I think.

@moosegrinder You need to unlock a legendary title for your first ship first, which requires getting one of the milestones associated with said ship to rank 50. Then you can buy another one. For example, I'm rank 50 in voyager on my sloop, so I can now buy another sloop if I wanted to.

Already???!  I think my highest rank on any of the categories is 5

I suppose that pretty much everything you do means you're progressing in these categories - even being sunk and eating fruit.

Yes, already and to be honest I wasn’t even trying, just playing the game normally! It’s probably the easiest to get as you get points in it for everything - doing missions, sailing, getting treasure, setting foot on islands, fighting etc.

I’ve been playing this with a mate for the last few days, first time either of us have tried it, and blimey.

I’ve played Eve Online for 18 years and that has a reputation for being unforgiving to the new players but the Sea of Thieves community are vicious.  Our undecorated, badly controlled sloop  has been routinely given a kicking by every other player we came across. My naive arse was expecting at least some players to be friendly but not one has.

So after a few sinkings in a row for a few days in a row we decided to stop giving other ships the benefit of the doubt and treated every encounter as a pvp encounter.

We lost  every fight still since we’re crap, but at the very least we made them work for it.

During one of our latest games we were ‘chased’ down by a level 5 reaper (I think that’s right, the dudes who show up on the map) after we saw them heading towards us on the map and we feigned docking at a small island before  hiding below deck. When they got close enough to fire on us we ran back up, dropped our single sail (we hadn’t dropped the anchor which made  us feel very tactically clever) and started zipping around their 3 mast ship lobbing fire bombs, blunder bombs, cursed cannon balls, everything we had while scurrying about repairing the damage they were causing.

They reacted poorly, hitting the rocks a couple of times, and everything we did seemed to hit the mark, blunder bombs disrupting repairs and throwing sailors still vomiting from the cursed cannon balls into the sea, who then tried and failed to board us. Eventually they sank and were picked off with flintlocks. While they were in the water being sniped one of them yelled “we’re friendly you fucking noobs”. Aye, right. I didn’t know people still said noob.

We grabbed their emissary flag and sold it before they could get back to us for revenge. 10k gold is still a lot to us but not worth as much as our first hard fought victory.

It’s alright, this.

I apologize if I start fighting any of you in advance. Looking to improve my PvP abilities by fighting.

Feels necessary as we are now getting attacked more as Athena's.

We are doing alright, but I want to keep my blade sharp, and my skills sharper!

I will redeliver loot if sunk, it's just purely practice. Although if people are toxic.........

MINE!

Can I continue my pirates of Caribbean tall tale? I got most way through and it said I hit a checkpoint, turned off Xbox now I'm back at the home island. It says to carry on just select it from my captains table, I can click it and the mission starts but do I have to sail back to where I was?

Yes, you sail back to where you were and there will be a mermaid statue somewhere nearby that allows you to resume it from your checkpoint.

Order of Souls takes a lot less time - and is more fun - with a crew.  Particularly when one person stays on the boat, and the other(s) goes shore and lures the skellies to the shore so their crewmate can use the cannons on them.

Ghost Ship voyages are also a really good way to practise ship combat with a rookie crew.

I haven't had a haul anywhere near that yet, so I'm a bit jealous.

Me and my regualar duo sloop crewmate had a 30 minute battle with a 3 man brigantine this evening. We burned through hundreds of cannon balls, took hundreds of hits, fought off incessant boarding attempts and got pushed off boarding them over and over again. Eventually both crews gave a GG and we slinked off in opposite directions feeling a bit dejected.

@BoggyB

Honestly it was just a series of things going right to be honest. I mean the Ashen Winds was over in minutes due to us having tonnes of Tridents. The Reapers anchored us, but themselves too, and I just kept them from respawing whilst my friends aligned the ships to barrage them with cannons. And the Treasury was just incredible. We rocked two emissaries to five too, gold hoarders and order of souls. So we were able to get the most gold without being Reapers.

Was class. We are beyond obsessed though. Put 150 hours into it since June...

MEDIC!

Two player PVP is really bloody hard in this, since everyone else we come across seems to be in 3 player brigs. It's gotten to the point where if we get into a scuffle we just try to mess with their ship and throw their loot overboard rather than trying to sink them.

Ran into some ridiculously good players the last couple of days. One team to the point of being suspect to be honest.

Team at lunch today though, had over 2500 hours in the game individually, but were surprisingly toxic for being so good at the game. Was quite disappointing. We were really nice in return, with no swears or even upset thrown their way. Rather we said we would be reporting them, for spawn camping whilst not trying to sink our ship. They were actively bailing just to kill us, and laughing shouting Baillll everything we spawned back. Was rather childish. When we did bring it up, they dropped their pants and were like "We aren't! Why are you reporting us..." And shortly after they let the boat sink.

Was rather immature, and just not cool to be honest. I thought the server was going down at 1pm GMT (it was actually 2) and was actively saying to them, lads, just sell the loot you don't have long!

They were clearly a cut above most, and they could have just wiped quickly and took the loot, but the trolling was rather toxic to be honest and is a shame to see.

Thankfully, on the flip side, a few days ago, a solo sloop with incredible cosmetics (dark wanderer set), but was just an absolute legend. He was super nice, just asking to alliance, and wanted a few bits of loot to get his reaper emissary up, and we said yup! Collectively got the barf achievement, and added each other ready to team up at somepoint. They could have easily sunk our brig, no problems, we just got that vibe from them, but they were so nice.

So for every toxic pro, there are certainly others that are lovely.

I think the unpredictability is one of the best things about this game - some people are awesome, others just utter shits.  You'll never know what will happen when you first set sail.

I'll never complain about being sunk - it's part of the game - but I've no time for trash talk/toxicity.  No need for it.  I'm solo slooping 75% of the time, so I'll never seek out combat.

My tactic is always to check the Reapers Bones emissary table and server jump if there's any ships on it!

Absolutely. We are the same regarding sinkings. When people slay us it is great fun, and we learn from it. I mean we got Krakened in the middle of a four ship fight, and finally hit the briney deep after taking two of them out... Was salty but in all the right ways, and was memorable!
