I do think that the vast majority of hostile pirates are fine though.  Sure, they might ruin our voyage, sink us so we lose our emissary level, kill us, and steal everything we've got on board, but most of the time  I'm just annoyed with myself for not spotting them and not being cautious and cashing in earlier!

 

As long as they don't start the toxic bullshit then it's cool - it's a pirate game, I've no issue with being attacked!

 

Anyway - as an aside, imagine being THIS good as a crewmate:

Our most deviously devastating plan yet! 

 

I kind of wish we had not muted them (for fear of them hearing us since we don't use Discord or Push to Talk). I bet it was quite the shock! 

 

I had to cut the audio and do some shenanigans to get it compressed enough anyway like.

 

We decided after a rough few hours of being chased by reapers to get some much needed revenge. We were lucky enough not to sink against the reapers earlier, but they slowed down our looting efforts, and the captaincy side of things was not working leaving us unable to fight properly at all. Was a bit of a bummer. 

 

So we decided instead to do the sneaky sneak, and stack a rowboat with kegs!!!

 

These had so many opportunities to blow me up here, but I was lucky enough to get it straight in-between the two of them, killing both, and sinking their ship in about 15 seconds. Absolute bedlam. 

 

We raised Reaper, scooped all the loot, cashed it all in for north of 100k and are delighted with the result. 

 

More sneaky pirating is absolutely on the cards after that!!!

I’ve got no idea how they didn’t see you coming but well done, that looks very satisfying.

 

My and my regular sloopmate sank a fully crewed galleon last night.
 

Initially they interrupted our treasure hunting and we assumed we wouldn’t be able to take them down so we tried tto be as annoying as possible by knocking down their masts and setting them on fire over and over. After 20 minutes of that they retreated but returned later on for another 20 minute rumble.

 

They were awful shots, which helped, and them being such a big target made it easier for us to consistently lay into them with the 400 cannonballs and assorted goodies we’d amassed. They ran out of supplies before we did so in the end it was a fairly sad sight of a single sloop circling an immobile, burning galleon and  picking it apart. We got an Athena emissary flag out of it but not much else.  
 

They said GG though, which makes a change from the usual toxic players we encounter.

Just finished this so here's a quick review!

 

Heart of Fire is the 2nd official SoT novel by Chris Allcock, and overall it's better than the fun original, Athena's Fortune.  Plenty of really good SoT lore in this - and quite a lot of backstories all merge together very nicely.

 

I was actually not playing SoT when Flameheart was introduced to the game - I had quite a long break from it.  So I didn't actually know there wasn't an origin story.  I've since played the Tall Tales which follow on VERY nicely from this story - so much so that I think I need to go back and replay them.

 

Talking of the Tall Tales, the 'good guys' of Heart of Fire are the crew of the Morningstar - who of course feature in 2 of the original 'Shores of Gold' Tall Tales so there's even more to replay!  It fits together really well, and there are a few other origin stories of familiar characters from the game as well.

 

Overall, it's a very easy, fun, swashbuckling tale perfectly in the mould of the SoT atmosphere with stacks of nods to the actual game shoehorned in nicely.

 

Worth a read if you want to expand on the lore somewhat - it's also very much suitable for younger readers too.

Had a go at the Seabound Soul again earlier - it really is a perfect follow on to that book.

 

If anyone should see me online playing this, please do give me a shout - I'm solo slooping 75% of the time at the moment so would be up for a bit of variety!

Are these the original Tall Tales?  I did them when they first came out but some of them are really tough!  @mechamonkey and I did the final one together and it's a proper quest - but the feeling at the end was euphoric, such a brilliant finale.

 

I think it was The Art of the Trickster which I found most difficult.  SOOOO many traps!  and I wouldn't have a clue what to do in the Legendary Storyteller, Stars of a Thief or Wild Rose tales and it was so long ago that I did them, and I've only ever done them once.

 

The Pirates of the Caribbean ones are a lot less challenging IMO.

 

So should you want to give them another go, happy to help!

The new adventure is EXCELLENT, although you might need a couple of hours to get through it.

 

I really like the Sunken Kingdom and the puzzles in each of the shrines, so combined with a bit of extra lore and the chance to get plenty of coral treasure, it's a decent offering.

 

Got a shitload of gold as I was clever and put the Gold Hoarders emissary flag up - easily reached grade 5 which is neat as there are a few chests of Ancient Tributes in the shrines that are worth plenty.

No, nothing like the last one.  Saw a few other ships at the starting island but that always happens at the start of an adventure.

 

I did it all solo - no problems from anyone.

It's very very satisfying to solo a Veil voyage - though there were 2 reapers on my server so I was very nervously checking the map after I destroyed the fort at the end!!

 

Got every last piece of loot, even claimed the emissary voyage - lovely stuff.  Over 100k emissary value in just over an hour.  No idea why the reapers didn't come after me - they'd have seen the vortex thing for the final battle and were both grade 5 so would have been able to see me.

I do like the curses - they look good and it's a sign that you've had to grind to earn it.

 

I spent a lot of time grinding all the Umbra things to get all her tattoos and then stuck with my Hungering Deep one anyway. But it was fun exploring! And by exploring I mean following a guide because how the hell else are you ever supposed to find any of them?!?

I also managed to get the commendation for finding out who killed DeMarco - there's a secret cut scene you can only access by doing a few things first.

 

Basically - it takes ages and aside from adding a bit to the lore, it's not really worth the extra effort!!

The next adventure is another multiple choice thing and sounds very cool:

 

 

So essentially, the choice is save Flameheart or save Pendragon.

Anyone else giving this a go?  I'm definitely #teamflameheart for this one - Pendragon is just an absolute liability.
