Guide to the Vault of Glass Raid *Spoilers*

Guide to the Vault of Glass Raid

Thanks to Uncle Mike, ShimmyHill for helping with the guide.

Basics

You need a team of six players (you can do less but you need to be really REALLY good) before you can attempt a raid.

Vex enemies are weak to void weapons so if you have any of these get them upgraded & have them equipped.

Make sure you are at least level 26 for normal mode & level 30 for hard, I would recommend a couple of levels on top of that to be really effective.

Ensure you have all legendary (purple) & one exotic weapon fully upgraded, you do not want to go into a raid with a weapon that still needs upgrading because you will not be doing maximum damage.

Make sure you have purchased ammo packs from the gunsmith, because you may need them especially Heavy Ammo packs.

Don't be afraid to swap around weapons, either synth up or remember you get stocked with ammo at each save point.

Use Titan shields - weapons of light placed well can give your whole team a huge damage boost against the big enemies (Templar and Atheon).

Having a hunter who can go invisible is a great addition to a team, can go and get downed players in tricky spots etc even if the super is not very effective.

You must have a headset. If you don't, go get one!. Communication is key to completing the raid.

Normal to Hard mode differences.

Open the vault is the same.

No respawns within a checkpoint.

Once you're at the Confluxes, you don't get revived until you've defended all three waves of Legions.

Once you're at the Oracles, you don't get get revived until the relic spawns.

Once the relic is picked up, you don't get respawned until the Templar is dead.

Another re-spawn point at the start of the Atheon fight.

More Oracles in each round, and more rounds.

I think everyone gets detained at the Templar fight. If you bunch up as the relic holder takes the shield down, he can ground pound to speed up everyone's release.

More Gorgons, and a slightly different route needed.

At the Atheon fight, anyone not teleported gets a Detain shield, like in the Templar section.

Stage 1 - The Sync Plates

There are three sync plates that need to be activated. Left from where you spawn, Center just in front of the main door & Right follow the path leading off from the center sync plate. You need two players on each point stopping the vex from taking over these sync plates. Best to equip Void weapons especially against the Praetorians that spawn.

What is a sync plate?

The circle of light in the image below.

post-18024-0-48660200-1432650624.jpg

TIP - only Praetorians reset the sync plate so can just concentrate on them, void shotgun is ideal !!

A spire will begin to form & when completed it will unlock the door. You just have to wait it out & kick the crap out of any Vex that try to take over a sync plate. Once the door has opened follow the path through to your first LOOT CHEST (Don't open a chest until all players are present because like the other chests in the game they expire over time).

Next you have to follow the path & drop down a few sections (some of these are quite a big drop so jump/boost before landing if needed) before you enter the next location. Don't drop down off the ledge into the large area below just wait at the top for everyone to gather. Take a breather before stage 2 kicks off.

Stage 2 - Defend the Confluxes

What is a conflux?

A spire of light see image below.

post-18024-0-10578700-1432650825.png

During this stage you will need to stop the vex from sacrificing themselves to the confluxes. You will also get a new enemy called a fanatic when you kill them they leave a green pile of goop which you do not want to step in.

If you do step in the goop you will be marked for negation, the Templar uses an attack called ritual of negation which will instantly kill all marked players. If you have been marked you will need to got to an area in the center at the bottom of the stairs & cleanse yourself in the light.

To trigger the start of this stage you jump off the ledge & land into the large area below.

The first stage of this you will have just the one central conflux to defend, once you have defended it for a length of time it will disappear. The Templar will then summon its legions, be prepared for lots of enemies including fanatics Kill all of these to trigger the next stage.

TIP - With the legions section, you can just hide from them. Either in the room with the crappy material chest or anywhere up high that is out of sight of them, can just wait it out or kill them with ease nice and safe!

What is The Templar?

He is a Vex Hydra Ultra with a shield, don't bother wasting ammo shooting at him you will get to kill him later. See image below.

post-18024-0-95132800-1432651672.jpg

The next stage will spawn two confluxes, one on the left hand side of the area & the other on the right. This is where you split into two teams of three players each to defend each conflux. After you have defended them for a length of time they will disappear & the legions will be summoned again so go kill them all.

The last stage is the most difficult with three confluxes spawning (central, left & right). This time split into three teams of two players each to defend each conflux. Once again when they are defended for a period of time they will disappear & the Templar will ring his bell to summon the legions. Kill them all again & get ready for stage 3.

Stage 3 - Oracles
What is an Oracle?
An Oracle is a glowing yellow orb of light, see image below

post-18024-0-81399100-1433257639.jpg

This next stage is all about killing the oracles that spawn & quickly. You only have 20 to 30 seconds to kill them before they will mark you for negation & we all know what that means now if you get marked? You will need to cleanse yourself or you will die.
There are two strategies to this that I have played myself, take your choice & good luck.
Oracle Locations
The oracles spawn in any of seven places (I believe there is a pattern). There are two on the Templar Platform (Left & Right), Center (in front of the cleansing fountain). Left side of the map where the conflux was you have one on top of the stairs & one next to the wall. Right side of the map where the conflux was you have one in the corner & one at the bottom of the stairs.
Strategy 1 - (Split the teams into three teams of two)
You have two players on the right taking care of the two oracles on the right side & also keeping an eye on the right side of the Templar Platform.
Two on the left killing the two oracles that spawn near the conflux area & also keep an eye on the templar left platform.
The other two players need to focus on killing the enemies that spawn especially Hobgoblins but also keep an eye on the center Oracle for when that spawns.
The key to this section of the game is communication, when you see an oracle spawn shout out it's location by either saying Center, Left, Right or Templar Left/Right. You have seven waves of oracles before you complete this stage & the enemies that spawn will get tougher.

Strategy 2 - (Ledge Snipe)

I have only done this strategy once & it works very well, everyone wipes (dies) & you will all respawn on the ledge above the Templar area. For this strategy everyone must have a sniper rifle.

Two players stand on either side of the rock face behind the ledge looking at all the Oracles on the either side of the area below.

The remaining two in the middle looking at the center & helping out when they can with the others.

You also need to focus on killing the Hobgoblins that spawn.

Once you have completed all the waves you will be rewarded with loot & advance to the next stage the Templar Boss.

Stage 4 - The Templar

Time to take down the big guy, first point to note is there is an item called the Relic which when charged up can take down the Templar shield. You need to decide on which player will be the relic holder. They can use melee attacks to kill enemies & when the relic is charged they can use a super attack to launch a projectile at the Templar to remove his shield. The relic holder can also cleanse any players that have been marked.

The relic holder is the key to communication in this section he needs to tell the other players when he is taking the shield down so they know when to start attacking the Templar.

Occasionally when the Templar shield is removed you may be encased in a red shield, you need to just shoot your way out of this shield with a primary weapon, don't use a rocket launcher you will die !! When you are out of this shield then let loose on the Templar with your rockets.

On top of all the other vex enemies joy of joys you have oracles to deal with so shout out their location & kill them quick. If you do get marked then the relic holder needs to cleanse you there is no aura of light at the centre anymore.

The Templar will also teleport around the map so stay alert you do not get too close to him otherwise he will do a close range attack killing you instantly.

Get into a rhythm of taking down the oracles & listening to the relic holder for when he takes down the Templar shield so you can attack the Templar.

TIP - If everyone is up in the top right area where you are in the YouTube clip is a really effective method. You can basically skip killing the Oracles, because you're all by the relic holder, and you can concentrate fire and let the relic guy melee Harpies for super charging efficiency.

When you have killed him, yell out a big "Hell Yeah !!" & enjoy the loot.

Stage 5 - Labyrinth

After the Templar fight, you need to grab a materials chest this can be found in a hole of the left side of the Templar area, just before the stairs going up look to the left to see a small hole, jump in & wait for all the other players before opening the chest together to get some materials. (See image below)

post-18024-0-69691900-1433236428.jpg

Don't go back out but from this small room with the chest follow a path all the way to the Labyrinth area and also the first chest. Again wait for everyone to get together before opening the chest.

The enemies in the labyrinth are Gorgons & they will kill you on sight.

The best advice for this section is to stay together, no stragglers.

What is a Gorgon?

post-18024-0-01058500-1433236628.png

There is one more chest in the labyrinth, you need to follow the right hand side wall from where you start (water area) into a large room which has the second chest. Just make sure you avoid the line of sight of the Gorgons.

To exit the Labyrinth from the water area you turn left & jump onto the first rock, from the top of this rock you will see another rock ahead, jump onto that & then onto a third rock. From this third rock if you look to the right you will see a cave entrance but watch out for any Gorgons before you make a run for it.

There is a very good map made by Taux which is spoilered below.

Stage 6 - Platform Jumping

This stage you have to jump across vanishing platforms to reach a ledge which will take you round to the Vault of Glass.

It can be very difficult on my first attempt it took me nearly an hour!!

Jump to the third platform & then do a running jump and aim for the top ledge from which I drop down & then go round to the the entrance to the Vault of Glass.

A video below shows me walking the labyrinth path instead of jumping the rocks, I have found the rocks to be the easiest route but you can follow the path in the video if you want. It also shows evidence that I completed the platforming section frst time :)

Stage 7 - The Gate Keepers

Now the hard stuff arrives, first some info on the room layout. When you enter the area there is a sync plate on the left & right hand side with a gate above them. In front of you is a square platform on it's own & a large open area beyond that.

The sync plate on the left will transport you to Mars & the sync plate on the right will take you to Venus. Make sure you understand this because this information will need to be relayed to other players.

When the door opens to the area, equip sniper rifles & take down the GateKeeper at the far back of the room. Then go to the left and activate the sync plate whilst also shooting all the other vex enemies that spawn.

TIP - once the gatekeeper is dead and a sync plate is up, all the existing vex de-spawn. So don't kill them, just hide.

Teams - you will need players to split into teams that go into the portals & those that stay out Usually you would send two through, and leave four to guard the plate from goblins and praetorians. If your find that the two need help through the gate, send a third through to start, but pull him back before the gatekeeper is dead, to minimise people to cleanse

Once the sync plate is active, two or three players need to enter the gate & kill the Gate Keeper on Mars. The Gate Keeper will drop a relic (similar to the Templar relic) you need to retrieve this & return back through the portal to join the others. The relic holder will need to cleanse the other players with him because their vision will start to fade.

Relic holders can perform other powerful attacks, use them when needed to kill the vex.

To cleanse while holding the relic, press the button that you use to throw your grenades.
To shield bash while holding the relic, press the button that you use to shoot.
To ground slam while holding the relic, press the button that you use to jump (to jump of course!), then press the button that you use to shoot while you are in the air.
To range attack while holding the relic, press whatever button(s) you use to execute or activate your super.

A Conflux will now spawn in the center of the main area, one or two players will need to stop the Vex sacrificing themselves.

TIP - A single player with a decent void loadout can hold the influx of minotaurs advancing on the newly-spawned central conflux by running past their spawn point (top of the stairs) and shooting them in the back as they spawn.

The rest need to go the right hand side plate & activate it to open the portal to Venus. The relic holder & one or two other players need to then enter Venus to kill the Gate Keeper & retrieve another relic. Again relic holder must use cleanse when needed.

Whoever is left outside will need to defend the sync plate & the conflux. It's a tough ask so good luck.

Once the team from Venus is back all go to the conflux & defend it. Enemies will spawn from both portals & at the back stairs. After a length of time the conflux will disappear & you will be rewarded with loot.

Stage 8 - Atheon

Atheon will randomly transport three players to either Venus or Mars. The players that are transported need to let the other players know so they know which plate to stand on to open the portal.

The players that get transported will spawn in front of the relic, one player needs to pick up this relic. Once the relic is picked up the other players vision will start to go black. so the relic holder will need to cleanse when the other players tell him. Oracles will spawn & the other players need to shoot them whilst walking towards the gate. Hopefully by the time you have reached the gate the team on the outside will have the portal open for you to go through.

Once you are through you activate Time's Vengeance which basically means you can kick Atheon's arse, it only lasts for 30 seconds so make sure you quickly go to the center platform & the relic holder must hold the cleanse button to activate a shield. This will protect you from Atheon's attacks. I have used the tactic of placing a titan defender shield on the back of this platform with Weapons of Light active so all players can get a boost to weapon attacks. Once the time is down to a few seconds jump away from this platform & hide.

Atheon will then repeat the process again & teleport three players to either Mars or Venus. So just follow the above steps & you should have him killed in three to four turns.

Watch this video below for my playthrough.

Good luck with the raid, if you do not have six players to tackle a raid post a thread in this subforum asking for players.

No vids but could take a few in our raid team to add if it helps?

Couple of tips we use - only Praetorians reset the sync plate so can just concentrate on them, void shotgun is ideal way to deal with them I find!

We also tend to splint into twos as you have said, we will then take up left long or short etc - you can then call out where help is needed and move about if someone goes down.

With the legions bit, you can just hide from them - either in the room the crappy chest is in after you kill the Templar or anywhere up high that is out of sight of them, can just wait it out or kill them with ease nice and safe!

Some more general tips that we found helpful - don't be afraid to swap around weapons, either synth up or remember you get stocked with ammo at each save point.

Use titan shields - weapons of light placed well can give your whole team a huge damage boost against the big enemies esp Templar and the big man later on.

Having a hunter who can go invisible is a great addition to a team, can go and get downed players in tricky spots etc even if the super is not very effective.

Great idea for a thread, hope you don't mind me posting in it!

On a forum tip, I'd advise breaking the posts up more, rather than less. It does screwy things to content and formatting once you break certain boundaries (undefined.)

On a VoG piece, for the Templar section, we found putting everyone up in the area where you are in the YouTube clip is a really effective method. You can basically skip killing the Oracles, because you're all by the relic holder, and you can concentrate fire and let the relic guy melee Harpies for super charging efficiency.

We do exactly that, using the bit behind the rock to cleanse - also make sure the relic dude has a suitable build, I can recharge a super in the time the Templars shield is down

Thanks guys for the extra tips will edit into the guide, I'm a bit drained out from all the social media work the past couple days so will get back on this guide after the weekend.

I think for the Gatekeepers, I would point out that in the main room, once the gatekeeper is dead and a sync plate is up, all the existing vex de-spawn. So don't kill them, just hide.

Then send two through, and leave four to guard the plate from goblins and praetorians. The main talking in the party is likely to be the 4 outside calling praetorians. If your group find that the two need help through the gate, send a third through to start, but pull him back before the gatekeeper dies, to minimise people to cleanse.

A single man with a decent void loadout can hold the influx of minotaurs advancing on the newly-spawned central conflux by running past their spawn point, and shooting them in the back as they spawn. It's really handy, and also eliminates risk from hobgoblin snipers.

Where do they spawn?

You could do with stating the differences between normal and hard raids in the first post

Ok, I will have to do some reading up on that because I have never completed VoG in Hard Mode.

Or if anyone else can write the difference & I'll add to the first post.

Normal to Hard differences.

Open the vault is the same.

No respawns within a checkpoint.

Once you're at the Confluxes, you don't get revived until you've defended all three waves of Legions.

Once you're at the Oracles, you don't get get reviveed until the relic spawns.

Once the relic is picked up, you don't get respawned until the Templar is dead.

Another respawn point at the start of the Atheon fight.

More Oracles in each round, and more rounds.

I think everyone gets detained at the Templar fight. If you bunch up as the relic holder takes the shield down, he can ground pound to speed up everyone's release.

More Gorgons, and a slghtly different route needed.

At the Atheon fight, anyone not teleported gets a Detain shield, like in the Templar section.
