Awesome aye! What USB storage to you use? Is a portable HDD fine? I've read that only certainly USB sticks work properly.

My wii is softmodded but I never really used it, I'd absolutely love to get it on the go as a Gamecube/Wii .iso machine.

my mistake!

Well, it looks like I need to raise some funds, and the only thing to really go that'll get the money required is my GameCube collection. I'll put them in Trading here, but what's the best way to price them, do folks think? eBay minus a bit? CEX minus a bit?

Been seeing a lot of GameCubes running picoboot, xeno, swiss etc on eBay.

What are the ins and outs of these things? Are they easy to work with? Are they a suitable alternative to playing off disc and would they let me run my gameboy player in full screen 360/480p?

Picoboot is a great mod. You use it with either an SD Gecko, or SD2SP2 to get it to load Swiss off an SD card.

There, you can boot GBI, an alternative to the GameBoy Player software to get non-standard display modes. You can also boot game images from SD Card.

Xeno's different, it lets your GC boot burned discs. One of which could contain Swiss, and then you'd proceed as before.

I have a Xeno modded GC and it is great but… while Swiss is amazing running games off the SD card is not without its issues, lots of slowdown in FMV type stuff, music at the wrong speed and when looking into this apparently lots of games dont run properly or at all. The other issue is still needing mem cards, not a bad one but the virtual cards on Swiss dont work with lots of games.

However Swiss is good, I do fancy modding another GC I have with a Picoboot and then looking out for the progress on the M.2 as this seems to resolve all the speed related issues SD cards have with streaming assets / music.

I do have a GC related question… while I have a Wavebird my eldest has kidnapped it to display so I was wondering if there are any third party wireless pads that are decent (I have various retrobit and 8bitdo pads that are great not like 3rd party tat) or should I just stump up for another wavebird?

If you're okay with spending some money, replacing your controller board with a BlueRetro one would let you use ANY Bluetooth controller.

Appears to be sold out, though.

That is very cool, I would rather use the original pad shape tho - this is a complete pain really as I have so many wireless pads but it just feels wrong playing on original hardware but using the wrong pad, madness to some I know!

It has helped me to find that memory card they do, just need to justify the cost - pretty close to doing so, I watched a review on it yesterday so very timely!

I’ve got one of those memory cards myself. They are seriously cool.

Sell it to me, is it as good as suggested with Swiss so each game builds its on mem card automatically? Also, any idea if the wifi stuff will work via IOS browsers etc?

Not for sale!!

Yes it uses the game ID to create a card for each game and switches between them.

Wifi feature works fine in iOS.

Ahh, I meant sell it to me as in a sales pitch - didnt expect to buy yours!! I shall put an order in, its one of those things that once you have it you forget about the cost I assume…

If he’s just displaying it, nab the receiver back, I’ve got two in the office sans receiver 👍

Ah gotcha!

Yeah, it’s a real luxury purchase. Nothing a few memory card 251s wouldn’t sort instead, but being able to not worry about saves is nice.

By the time ive bought a few of them that dont like terrible its at least half the price, I can man math form there - cheers!

Why? £20 I’d guess, not sure what they go for, if that’s too much let me know, since starting a proper job I’ve just left the online stuff priced as it is and have hardly been listing anything, the slow sales kinda got me down, which in turn has lead to less listings and obviously less sales, vicious circle 🤦‍♂️

Missed this somehow, i am sorting my Wavebird out next week hopefully so defi interested in one for show!

@Colonel Panic Ive ordered one of the mem card thingies, so few reviews of it so wondering if you know…. If I have a game save on a Swiss virtual mem card can it be transferred to the new physical thing - I can’t see any obv way to do it in Swiss but maybe only happens with the card plugged in!?

It’s a bit fiddly. You need to enable boot from IPL in Swiss. Then hold, I think, A as you launch a game so it goes to the GC menu with the virtual card mounted in slot A for that game’s region.

Finally, put your fancy new memory card in port 2 and use the UI to flip to game-specific cards and copy stuff over.

I think there’s a better way using the Dolphin emulator but just do it on a game by game basis.
