Audible...and other audiobook delivery mechanisms that may or may not be available

So I recently really enjoyed the James Follett 'Earthsearch' series, as well as discovering that there is an adaptation of Star Wars with Mark Hamill and Anthony Daniels!

I've got a couple of Audible credits to use, and I was hoping to find something similar - not audiobooks as such, something a little more meaty. Any recommendations?

Finished sharp ends audio book, very good, very very good. The bloody nine's early days story, is just grim. Such a cunt!

And there is a bonus interview with Abercrombie and  Steven Pacey, which is good listen too.

I have just ripped through the Red Rising trilogy by Pierce Brown. Old school Sci-fi fantasticness.

Imagine an Irish Jennings goes to school in ancient Rome, on the set of game of thrones set on mars. Brilliant fun, the main character is terrific, the narrator does a great job of distinguishing the various characters  and it all rocks along at a page turning pace.

I think it's part Young adult style, but there's no paper thin love story or wet twinkly hunk being all moody and bland.

It delves into the nature of society and how the rich and powerful keep control.

I'll even go as far as to say Banks esk in places. beautifully realised world.

Highly recommended.

Got a credit available on Audible. Can anyone recommend a good fantasy series to start on.

Not that people would go directly to these but just so they don't get mentioned, I've read and listened to A Song of Ice and Fire, His Dark Materials and Harry Potter.

I really enjoyed reading Memory, Sorrow and Thorn by Tad Williams. The audiobooks get good reviews too.

Does anyone have any suggestions for something like the Peter Grant books? I've just finished reading The Hanging Tree and fancy listening to something similar. I've already read the Paul Cornell books.

David Eddings, Belgariad series. Sure it's sort of Lord of the rings lite but there are no hobbits of stupid pointy eared bastards and the magic is actually logical. The characters are solid fun engaging types that inhabit a believable world. Cracking page turner of a series.

Don't get the abridged version.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll check them out. I'm currently listened to Ian Irvines Well of Echoes. Ive read all his three world series novels before (probably my favourites series ever), so listening to all the audiobooks now whilst I wait for the next novel in the series to be released.

I loved these books and the audio books.

When is the next novel due out?

Next November according to Irvine. He did originally say he thought it would be May. Have you read The Summon Stone then?

He also said recently that he's done a deal to get Songs of the Tears made into audiobooks. No other info as of yet but it's exciting to hear they're getting done too

What happens to Audible if you cancel your account? I'm just not using it and I've got 6 credits to use up and previously I've also put the account on hiatus (which I belive you can only do for 3 months every 12 months).

So if I terminate my account now do I still have access to the books previously bought? and if I terminate now can I still spend any credits or do I have to spend them before I terminate the account?

Thanks.

I just cancelled my membership after spunking 6 credits. It asked me why I wanted to stop (Not using it enough) and then offered me 3 months with 50% or 1 additional credit for free. So might be worth doing that and grabbing a bit of discount.

Got 4 credits now and decided I'm going to use them on the first 3 from this series that are out on Audiobook. I can always read the 4th novel if its not available by time I get to it.

I got Catch 22 because I'm trying to make up for being embarrassingly non-well-read. I've been plugging away at it but I still don't really get why it's so great :(

I hated Catch 22 for the first third. Too many characters, it didn't make sense, and it was going nowhere. But at some point it's crazy world building worked, and I understood, and I suddenly found myself reading a book that changed my life.

I hate it when people say, it starts bad, but gets better. I think thats a cop out. But this book genuinely changed my life so I'm being a hypocrite.
