I'm really enjoy A Brief History of Time, partly because of the wonderfully breathy soft-porn style reading!

It's just a shame that whenever Stephen Hawking veers into personal anecdote (thankfully rarely) he comes across as such a dick.

The narration of Orwell's Down and Out in Paris and London is superb, and in that sale.

Most of the value tends to be in the classics in those sales, but agreed, even there it is a little slight. Still, i picked up Zola's amazing Therese Raquin narrated by Kate Winslet, Orwell's Burmese Days (a personal favourite) and a Jeeves collection, so not bad in 3 for 2.

Incidentally, I’m just on to volume 2 of Tolstoy’s War & Peace, this has so far been a perfect narration by Neville Jason, who I’d not heard before.

This version is two separate 30 hour books - I noticed there is a single volume that clocks in at 61 hours that would save you a credit, but it’s read by someone else. This read has been more than worth the two credits they cost.

Any recommendations for the black Friday sale stuff?

I’ve don’t that thing again where I just hoard my credits as I never know what to spend them on. I want to get the Brett Anderson books but feel is a waste of credits as they’re so short!

I just polished off Burmese Days by George Orwell, absolutely superb narration by Allan Corduner, capturing the varied cast of desperate characters wonderfully.

Curiously, at one point I very clearly heard the sound of a police siren going past, he must have recorded it in his back bedroom or something.

Okay this has probably been covered somewhere but right now I'm paying £7.99 a month and getting 1 credit. I can buy 3 credits for £18 (£6 each). What's to stop me buying 12 credits and then stopping the monthly? Do I lose all my credits? Is there a catch?

Yep, as soon as you go to leave you're then told that you'll lose all remaining credits. I was going to cancel at the end of the month to get a cheaper rate and ended up buying Underland, The Future Starts Here, The Uninhabitable Earth and I,Robot. Didn't cancel in the end as I'm just waiting to see if there's any decent post-xmas sales.

They're way ahead of me, clearly :(.

I couldn’t get on with Kate Winslet’s narration at all, it was really flat. The Jeeves was excellent, it’s a stand-alone story called Thank You, Jeeves narrated by Jonathan Cecil, brief and splendid.

Joanna David’s narration of A Room with a View is very nice indeed. At the moment I’ve got Herman Hesse’s The Glass Bead Game on the go, the narrator is David Colacci who is doing a great for an American (I find American narrators can sometimes be more monotonal)...however on the odd occasion he reminds me of Jerry from Rick & Morty.

If anyone is into Sherlock Holmes, I'd wholeheartedly recommend the Stephen Fry reading. It's hard to imagine it being possible to do a better one, really. His love for the series really shines through in informative forewords as well.

So before I waste my 4 credits getting all the Jilly Coopers in the 3 for 2 sale, has anyone got anything good lately?

If you haven't listened to Joe Abercrombie, get Joe Abercrombie.

If you like football then The Age of Football by David Goldblatt is absolutely superb.

Adam Buxton’s Ramble Book, Louus Theroux’s Gotta Het Theroux This and The End Is Always Near by Dan Carlin have all been recent things I’ve enjoyed.

What kind of stuff do you normally enjoy?

I read Riders many many years ago and it's fantastic posh-trash. I had to get the first three of those books in this sale. Really looking forward to it.

I’m listening to it now! Narrator is so good at posh voices. I’ve read them countless times. So good! The best one I reckon is The Man Who Made Husbands Jealous, an excellent evil villain in that one and a fab hero. His name is Lysander! That’s the fourth though so you won’t manage it in the three for 2 unfortunately.

Oh god it’s so wide and varied! Things I’ve listened to recently - I loved the three body problem series, Sapient, so you’ve been publicly shamed, the crimson petal and the white, children of time / children of ruin, some history of Romans / Egyptians... oh senlin ascend too.

Proper book wise I’m ploughing through the farseer books, rosewater, I’m liking Japanese fiction like Yoko Ogowa too.

Oh and I got the first one of these but I didn’t get into it. I’ll try again I’d I haven’t returned it.
