Seems to be Lego's take on Disney Infinity and Skylanders.
The game leaked this morning, so WB just confirmed the thing.

Following this morning's leak, Warner Bros. Interactive today confirmed Lego Dimensions, a toys-to-life console game that hits Sept. 27 and will blend a variety of universes together including DC Comics, The Lord of the Rings, The Lego Movie, The Wizard of Oz, Lego Ninjago and Back to the Future.

More properties will be announced in the future, according to the press release. The game is in development by Travelers Tales Games and is coming to the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and Wii U. The starter bundle will cost $99.99, according to Toys R Us.



In addition to the game, the Lego Dimensions Starter Pack will include the Lego Toy Pad, which allows players to transport special LEGO minifigures and other LEGO objects into the game, bricks to build the LEGO Gateway, three LEGO Minifigures, including LEGO Batman from DC Comics, Lego Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings and Wyldstyle from The Lego Movie, plus the LEGO Batmobile.



"When kids play with Lego bricks, they build beyond the singular brands, intermixing all of their favorite characters and universes, and we have come up with a way for players to experience that in games," said Jon Burton, Founder and Creative Director, TT Games. "Now for the first time in a videogame, Lego fans can play in the virtual world and in the real world — combining everything without restrictions. Imagine putting LEGO Gollum from The Lord of the Rings behind the wheel of the Lego DeLorean Time Machine in New Ninjago City — the creative play is endless."

No need for the 'Lego Toy Pad' on the Wii U version - just use the built-in NFC surely? Would potentially bring down the cost of the starter pack on that version too.....so, nah far too much like common sense ;)

Thought so - totally pointless (since the gamepad already has NFC) 'Toy Pad' is used on the Wii U version as well.

Wii U version £90 on Amazon - that'll be a random price surely as there's no release date.

Disney Infinity was around £50 on release. I'd expect the same.

The Wizard of Oz is a strange choice but it'll be the one I want :)

Unfortunately mate that is RRP and the release date is 29th September.

I think I will wait to see what the gameplay is like on this one. I already spend a lot on Disney Infinity and amiibo and this costs more than all those combined pretty much.

You're in for a hell of a long wait. All these are doing is combining the decades old "kids collect shit" trend with videogames. There's plenty for you to buy if you don't want this - pretty much every game that isn't one of the three available - so it's hardly taking over the market either.

4 available (Amiibo, Skylanders, Infinity, Dimensions) come September, and can't be long before MS find a way to do something similar with Minecraft!

And what about plastic Pokemon?

The bubble will burst eventually.

Are plastic Pokemon specific to videogames or just a spin off? Because that's kinda my point - gotta get them all collectables aren't anything new and haven't been for, Christ, at least 50 years. Baseball cards, Panini, garbage patch kids, those weird little pink Japanese wrestler things, matchbox cars, whatever.

It's hardly taking over the world of videogames (though can feel like it if you're still shopping in Game) and its not like there aren't 3 or 4 other normal Lego games out this year anyway.

£90/100 for a starter pack. There's no birthdays around that time in our family and it's too early for Xmas. That's very expensive.

I'm not sure I'll be an early adopter.

Grown man justifies 'they're not for kids as I own 27 of them'. :lol:
