Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

It's a really interesting approach, but also clunky as hell and feels like it was shoehorned in at the last minute. The game gets significantly better once you get to Prague.

Late-game spoiler

The whole mission in the cinema in Dvali territory is great. I think I spent more time finding the possible ways in than actually doing the mission.

I've not completed the game - but I think the only other SP content (one more to come) "System Rift" was meant to be pretty good - but also short for it's price, and superflous. (It doesn't advance the plot in any way, is unconnected to main plot and takes places seemingly "in between" bits of game)

Rumour is Mankind Divided was supposed to be a much bigger game but it's been halves Sonic 3 & Knuckles style, which is quite bizarre seeing as there's a Sonic & Knuckles easter egg in it. illuminate/tinfoil hat at the ready!

There's a "Knuckles The Knuckle & Knuckles Vs Knuckles" game box hidden in the game, so you're probably on the money there.

So I finished this, pretty impressed overall (Prague is a great hub) but it had a bit of Second Game Syndrome about it. I'm looking forward to the sequel, if only so the storyline can close off neatly, ideally with me repeatedly punching Manderly in the neck instead of whatever hobo is beside me when I try to cancel out of a menu.

This is a good game. It's technically well made and it plays well. Yet somehow I don't really care for it. I think I played about 80% when it developed some issues and I had to uninstall it and when I thought about reinstalling it to finish it I found I just really rather play something else. I think it's because there's no real surprises in the game, it's all very familiar and you know what roughly going to happen gameplay wise.

Really sucked me in now. It's just quality. The level design is tremendous, nooks and crannies, secret passages everywhere. Stacked up on the various hacking augs early on as there doesn't really seem to be any more effective ways of completing the missions.

Late game (I think M13 or so) spoilers/spec

I'm not Adam Jensen am I?

My rescue from the Ocean is wierd and much later than when anyone should have survived

Eliza talked about me being different and the importances of memories.

Sarif talks about Jensen intermittently in the third person, that my mods aren't the ones he put in Adam Jensen and that "some conclusions you need to reach yourself"

I've just done the harvester mission which is all about TYM experimenting with implanted memories/behaviors

The notes around the people watching me are more about them monitoring progress..

And Manderly put me in TF29....I'm a mole! That's how they knew I was coming to the Alps

The only thing I can't square it with is the fact I don't need Nerupozyn - last time Adam was a miracle break through...

Wait till you've finished man, you've just started down the rabbit hole. Gotta say this is gonna be a tough game to top for me as far as narrative is concerned, hopefully the sales have improved a bit as word of mouth is generally really good.

Recently finished Deus Ex Go while on holiday and that is a superb little game too. I really love the whole Deus Ex universe, there's nothing else quite like it.

I love games that drip feed little bits of background lore throughout the main story, relying on the player to put some effort in and piece the bits together. It's a nice meta-reward, added value for those who go looking for it. Bloodborne did this amazingly well, and now DX has taken the concept and basically based the whole main plot around it. There's one huge spoiler that kind of answers your final point, but it's very hard to find and I'll say no more. ;)

My only complaint is that it is a bit too short. I'm desperate for more sweet-ass full-on Jensen but I've already completed it three times and seen all the game has to offer (I think...). Might mop up trophies in System Rift.

I know what you mean. If we don't get a sequel I'll be proper gutted, I really want to see where they take this. Square Enix are a bunch o' bastards though, I wouldn't be suprised if they already pulled the plug.

Thank god we have Dishonored 2 to look forward to ...but still Corvo is no Jensen :*(

Seeing as this is the first Pro enabled and HDR game for the PS4 you'd think they would be shouting it from the rooftops or speaking to Sony about doing a possible pack in with the PS4 Pro...I mean they could be but I highly doubt it. It's they shuffled it out without any fanfare after a huge delay and then just forgot about it. Come on SE help give this game legs instead of trying to nickle and dime those that did

I've not played Dishonored before but heard great things. Only problem is that what partly makes DX for me is the awesome cyberpunk setting - the rain, the neon lights, the skyscrapers, the huge faceless corporations - there aren't enough cyberpunk games. Put the same game in a fantasy setting and I don't think I'd get the same out of it.

I am also scared that they might not continue Deus Ex, one of my favourite series of all time.

If Jim Sterling is to be believed, then the third Jensen game is apparently at least mid-development, if not nearing completion. It explains why MD was quite short with DLC straight out of the door, the original vision was cut in half with B team working on the second part. There's still time for SE to pull the plug I suppose, but this game really deserved a bigger marketing push.

You really should play Dishonored, it's soaked in atmosphere and a great stealth game IMHO.

And done - manged to get Pacifist (I didn't think I'd killed anyone...but the game kept saying I had in dialogue - so completely bugged), but didn't get Foxiest Hound (I'm sure no alarms went off!).

Managed to save everyone, including Miller. Lots of legging through invised. Even took down Manchenko (quick stun and then takedown!...pretty peasy)

The gameplay in the last bit was different and good fun (managed to take out all the guards unseen)

The ending is a bit abrupt - "We're going to for the leaders next time" - and then watching the TV to watch all the side mission stuff play out was a bit odd and heavy handed - effective presentation of news manipulation though...

Janus is that really shifty looking bald dude at the Illuminati right? Oh no the shifty doctor was a bad-un! Really didn't work out that she was checking my memories (either I'm a fake Jensen or a re-programmed original Jensen...sent to find/turn on Janus...

Next please!

How many areas are there in the game? I've just finished the Golem City mission and returned to Prague. One thing I would say is that so far it feels much more like a stealth action game now with choices really coming down to kill or not kill. I seem to remember the earlier games have more options during missions. A minor criticism as it's top drawer otherwise.

You have a few more to enjoy, Prague is almost like your home base location.

I'm actually glad this is a big, as I'm going completely pacifist and was a bit annoyed to be chewed out and sent to Psych evaluation for 'the mess I'd left' in an early mission when

Spoiler

first exploring the bombed train station for the something-something Chip in Prague

I've been extremely careful, particularly after almost failing the same achievement in Human Revolution when a knocked-out body fell from a building. Thankfully I had a back up save.

I feel it has actually far more options than Human Revolution and Invisible War. Especially HR could be fairly linear but here you have some pretty interesting ways of moving through environments. It does feel a bit more cramped than the original Deus Ex, but for me it's the first sequel in the series that actually comes close to that classic.
