When I was buying my first home I cancelled my sub to keep my outgoings down for the first few months living there.  I gave this as my reason for cancelling and Rorie emailed me wishing me luck with the purchase and moving in.  He was sound.

Gave them one more chance with this weeks Bombcast. Holy shit. Almost no games were mentioned in the 2 hours I listened,  I think Grubb said he played two holes of PGA tour golf. That was it. The rest was forced "banter" that was painful and begging listeners to watch videos on their site and to buy merch from the online store.

They have to be on life support, who could possibly listen to them anymore, what would you get out of it?

I know Dan saves all his game talk for his Fire Escape podcast, if you want to know where his priorities are.

I think they did another of those Discord Q&A's recently where they basically had to do the "Everything is fine" meme.

Vice is shutting down Waypoint on June 2nd. I'm sure they'll all land on their feet. Patrick and Rob especially will surely not have much trouble landing another gig somewhere, even outside of games writing.

I'll be surprised if The Jeff Grubb (& Friends) Show ,sorry, Giant Bomb, lasts more than a year at this rate before being binned or folded into Gamespot.

Traditional games media is fucked. It's all about the influencers now.

Yeah it just comes of as being a bit of an edgy prick.

GameSpot have announced a bunch of new video content and Tam and Lucy, the only two bearable people at GB, are getting their own weekly Friday news show

GameSpot's Spot On is a weekly news show airing Fridays, in which GameSpot managing editor Tamoor Hussain and senior producer Lucy James talk about the latest news in games. Given the highly dynamic and never-ending news cycle of the massive video game industry, this is sure to be a fun one. The show premieres May 5 and returns each Friday.

Thought Jeff was good value this week talking about Microsoft issues. I don't catch the show every time, but when I do, I enjoy it. There's really no one else like him.

Similarly, I don’t listen to every second of every episode, but his pod has become my go-to for when I’m doing jobs around the house. Can drift in and out while he natters away. Even his ad reads are still entertaining. The guy is a talent, and it’s great he’s able to do his own thing without the compromise that, even though he had highlights, clearly wore him down the last few years at GB.

Don't sleep on Jeff's twitch streams. They are archived on youtube and are usually extra podcast quality. Wan't to watch Jeff dump old Famicon carts for 3 hours? Of course you do.

It fucking sucks. Waypoint is a large part of my games news and analysis. There is nothing like it.

Fuck Vice

They have fucked themselves.

Once valued at nearly $6 billion, Vice files for bankruptcy

Vice Media, the youth-targeted media brand cofounded by Shane Smith in Montreal nearly 30 years ago, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Monday in the Southern District of New York, listing assets and liabilities in the range of $500 million to $1 billion.

In a press statement issued overnight, Vice Media Group said that it's business as usual at the company and that it expects to emerge from the Chapter 11 bankruptcy auction in as little as two to three months.

Pity Waypoint is going with it.

Every time this thread is bumped my first thought it is that they're announcing the closure.

But this:

is factually correct. He said that he will have Phil Spencer on at some point which should be good - they always had very interesting conversations during the E3 streams.

Hopefully Vinny will also show up at some point. Do Jeff and the Nextlander crew still get along? I'd expected them to show up in each others content by now.

One thing I was surprised by is that they seem to be planning to do the developer interview stuff during not-E3. That was always some of my favourite GB content so I hope they do a good job of that at least.

That is weird. I expected them to crossover on GOTY discussion. It seems that Nextlander are in bed with Gamespot a little bit so maybe Jeff wants nothing to do with that shit.

All the stuff since Alex, Vinny & Brad left just leaves me thinking that their relationship with Jeff is more one of an old colleague than an old friend these days.  Alex and Jeff go way back as far as I know, they mixed in similar circles as teenagers on the Petaluma music scene before the games thing started and of course Alex quit GameSpot in solidarity with Jeff after the Kane and Lynch review.

Why? I think life probably just gets in the way right?  Vinny has a family.  Jeff is still kinda newlywed and has a couple of pre school kids. He's probably strapped for time most of the time and just keeping his own shit going is difficult enough. He's said a few times he never really did the whole San Francisco social circuit when the entire American games industry seemed to be based there as he preferred to live outside the city in his hometown which is an hour's drive away.  Maybe he just likes to keep himself to himself or something.  It's working out for all of them at the moment so I don't see any huge issue.

I got the impression when Jeff's leaving GB was announced that there may have been some slight tension with him and the nextlander guys. Nothing specific, just kind of how they reacted was slightly odd.

As for Vice. It's a supposedly 'youth oriented' brand but anyone who remembers it being worthwhile or at least interesting at all is in their 40s.

They were mid-stream when it was announced, weren’t they? Having not long left the same company themselves they were probably still NDAed up to the eyeballs. They may still be, and sure imagine Jeff G is.

In time they may come together, but could also just be too much shit went on that even if they’re still on good terms, it is just not healthy for them to delve into the past in a public format.

Jeff seemed really hurt when they left. I thought it would pass but the fact that they’ve barely acknowledged one another’s existence since he left makes me think there’s some bad blood there.

You only had to listen to their GOTY podcasts to hear what a nightmare he must have been to work with. The heyday of Giant Bomb was amazing but he's probably better suited to rambling about games on his own nowadays.

I hope the friendships can be recovered, but I can't see them working together again professionally. I got the impression that Jeff was personally affronted when the Nextlander guys left to do their own thing. Of course, they ultimately turned out to be correct in their (not stated but pretty obvious) view of how GB was going, but Jeff may still think that he could have turned things round if they had still been there. I expect that, for him, the fact that he later left doesn't prove the Nextlander folk to have been right to do so themselves. I could be reading too much into them not mentioning each other a lot since, mind.
