Just Cause 3

I'm both excited and apprehensive about this. I played Just Cause 2 a good bit, but never finished it and ended up increasingly frustrated by it.

It was simply too damn big. Missions were too sprawling, the main story missions didn't differ enough from the side missions to be compelling in their own right, and ultimately, I just ended up moving from far flung point to far flung point, rarely doing anything which demanded much skill, just navigating in Just Cause style between missions.

This looks fun, don't get me wrong, and I can't see me not laying down the cash for it at or near release, but I do hope there's more of a plotted journey in this one, and that main missions have the appropriate amount of focus put on them.

I enjoyed JC2 (even got the platinum) but there were a number of issues, I think the main one was getting around such a massive world was a bit of a chore at times. I used to remember where the jets/choppers were and just steal one as the grapple was a pain to use for any distance.

However now they have added the wingsuit and supply drops (I can't actually remember whether these were in JC2) so it should make getting around more fun.

I have faith that they will deliver a great game but I think they have chosen the wrong release period and early Jan/Feb might be better (it worked wonders for Dying Light)...but what do I know. :)

Looks really great. Think this is the kind of sandbox game where you can dip in and out for quick bursts of mayhem. Don't get me wrong, can also see it lending well to sessions where players want to check out 'just one more' location and will probably spend an hour just Spidermanning citizens, but coming off the back of Fallout 4, this looks like being a more light-hearted bit of pixel relief. GAMES!

You can tell from all the videos coming out (I've watched the lot) the controls look bang on, especially Rico himself.

I recall the demo for JC2 when it came out, was timed at 30m play IIRC, i hated it first time I played as took a while to get the hang of Rico as the control system was unusually deep. Looks like they've refined it a lot as most of the journos are happily multi tethering and time delay exploding things left right and centre.

I cant fathom how this thread is so quiet this close to launch either

It looks ok for mucking about, but they haven't actually shown if the missions, AI or procedurally generated map are any more interesting than Just Cause 2.

I've actually been thinking the same, whilst the mucking about looks great what's the actual game like?

From what I remember of Just Cause 2, the missions just furthered the mucking about, albeit you sometimes had to take over strongholds or protect certain assets. Don't think there's been a game where I've blown more shit up, except maybe Mercenaries 2. Expecting nothing but mayhem, and repeated cow-flinging.
