Just Cause 3

I've not noticed too many technical issues, other than some occasional slowdown during the more hectic shootouts. Although, there was one time where I had to to reboot the game, because it seemed to lock itself into 10fps. I think what I'm starting to miss, is the things they've removed that were in JC2. I remember combat leaping from car to car was a lot more fun. You could jump around a car, the front, sides, top, quickly leap to another car etc. That seems to be missing from JC3? Instead, they've pretended you have more freedom by letting Rico walk around on top of a vehicle, rather than being locked in place.

I hate all the upgrades being hidden away in challenges as well.

The terrible technical problems are the icing on the cake.

Its far more enjoyable on PC when it's running smoothly but you're right, it's a disappointment. It's incredibly repetitive, too.

I have a feeling that one of the reasons they didn't do multiplayer was because the consoles can't handle it, and without that, it really falls short.

Had no issues with this on pc. I still think the first was the most fun I had with the series, 100%d it. 2 and 3 I mostly just played the campaign, although in 3 I did liberate all the areas as they nailed the destruction in the last one.

I agree. I also played it on the PC and it was fantastic. Haven't picked up the expansion yet though.

As I fixed my CPU problems I am finally able to play this.

Am I right in thinking that you can not beat certain challenges (on the highest score) with just the default vehicles? I swear there's 2 or 3 which are literally impossible to get as the vehicles are just too slow.

I love everything about the game except this. I'm playing the second DLC and getting killed repeatedly, presumably because I barely did any challenges so I've hardly got any upgrades. The challenges are SO BORING. Such a bad design decision.

It's a pain seeing all the cool grappling stuff locked away in endless wingsuit challenges. Thankfully, the wingsuiting is by far the best addition to the game, so the challenges are kind of fun. The rest of the challenges are a drag though.

Just did the "Abandon Ship" mission a few hours ago. Christ, that was a hard mission. A seemingly endless onslaught of bad guys that reminded me of JC1, except it's also another one of those missions where you have to protect two things... an EMP, and stupid Mario again, who just stands out in the open with a shotgun. After failing it several times, I decided to rebel drop a tank into the area just before the mission started. Thankfully, it was still there when I started the mission. So I will say one thing in JC3's favour... it at least lets you "cheat" a little. If this was GTAV, that tank would have disappeared.

Finished the story and liberated the entire island. I downloaded the Sky Fortress DLC shortly before completing the last few main story missions, and I'm glad I did. That Bavarium wing suit is amazing. Although it does make the parachute and the grapple pretty much redundant, and turn it into an altogether different game.

Overall, disappointed with how buggy the game can be at times. I've had loads of crashes, far more than with any other PS4 game. Loading times are still pretty bad, including weird bits where you can start the game without Rico's grapple or weapons in place. Literally walking around the game world with a floating hand that isn't attached to Rico's arm because the grapple hasn't loaded in. And this could sometimes take whole minutes to appear.

The game can look beautiful at times, but has an unfinished feel to it. I wasn't that impressed with the story missions. The sheer number of "protect such and such" missions made it feel like I was playing a game from the nineties. Mostly unimaginative and frustrating. And yet, it kept me playing. I think mainly due to the fun of taking down settlements.

New patch 1.05 coming in the next hour or so. If they've addressed performance they're not saying unless the thread scheduling is alluding to it:

Patch 1.05 incoming!

Hello everyone, you’ll notice patch 1.05 for just Cause 3 dropping shortly on PC, Xbox One and PS4. The patch contains the following:

Preparation for new content

-Added support for Bavarium Sea Heist DLC (pack)

General

-Alterations to thread scheduling.
-Optimized code for how the UI finds and displays which chaos objects are left to be destroyed in settlements.

PC-specific

-Dynamic Frame buffer scaling implemented for users with Intel GPU’s.

Various bug fixes to prevent flickering on particular elements of the game world.

We will update you on date for Bavarium Sea Heist shortly, thanks for your patience.

I think I preferred the second . As you said , the world seems so much more interesting in 2 . The landscape in 3, whilst pretty, is a bit boring .

Decided to get this for my new PS4 having loved JC2 to death and yeah, so far it's a disappointing follow-up; Panau was such an interesting mix of locations and environments - from the frozen top of the mountain to the desert area.

Plus you had the real peasant villages threaded between the trees and dirt tracks in a realistic way - this is basically one huge, rocky, Greek-style island with little variation. True, I haven't spent any time in the north, yet.

Gimme Panau with a wingsuit, please.

Yeah, liberated the island and done the final mission, and have no interest in any of the rest of it. Whereas 2 had me scouring the island for secrets and collectables.

I think it's missing a sense of playfulness and humour in the design - it's a boring island full of identikit towns and military sites. None seemed to be hidden away in interesting ways, very few variations on just being built on the ground. Some attempt to hide a couple of targets in sheds and the like.

And little variation in the landscape, and no sense of mystery and exploration. Where was the Sky Casino? The princess' tower? The hidden balloon? Skull Island? The Island of Missing Japanese Blokes?

Unless I missed them because they were really well hidden. Any easter eggs in this at all?

Did you do 2 as well, or was 3 the first one in the series - to be honest, it was only nearer to the end that I got into using the wingsuit with the grapple, at least not without an inevitable face plant.

I completed JC2 as well (on PS3) and I enjoyed that although I found the grapple hook a bit cumbersome.

I actually preferred Mercenaries 2: World in Flames so perhaps I'm not a good judge on what is a good game. :D

Not at all - I guess sometimes a game clicks with different people for different reasons - I was just wondering if I was a tad jaded because I played 2 first, and 3 was just more of the same.

But I sunk 150 hours into 2, as I recall.

Did anyone pick up the gold edition?  Got to say that is some amount of DLC they released (they should have fixed the game etc.). The new jetpack wingsuit with guns and missiles and the giant robots you can pilot are worth the admission price alone.

Is there an easy way to farm beacons, they are really ruining the ability to cause mayhem?

Just Cause 3 was ultimately a disappointment because of its performance problems (and I still had a lot of fun).  Whatever your tolerance it does frequently have slow down which is sad since the game itself has lots of fun and innovative ideas. I am not sure the game itself does anything particular special (it does look very pretty) so I tend to place this one down to the developers.  I am using Xbox One S so it is worth noting that the PS4 and presumably PC versions are meant to be better.

Don't know, last time a thread title changed it all kicked off!

Dunno if you are referring to the Destiny thread or not, but posting in the title that its on sale, when it could've been done in a post, was a bit silly.

It's a shame about the slowdown, as JC2 was pretty rock solid on framerate from what I remember. The open world isn't quite as wacky as JC2's either. It needed more floating nightclubs and mysterious "Lost" style islands. JC3 does look gorgeous though, and the cities were better than JC2.
