The most stupid moment in that show came as always from Sir Alan, berating them for their pricing strategy.

When asking them why they 'picked £60 out of the air' (presumably because that was what they had to do, as they were seemingly not allowed to check the market prices of comparable products), he proceeded to pick a number out of the air.

'Me, Nick and Karen would have said 25 seats, £100 each, keep our costs down to £500 and you make two grand!'

So presumably if they had said 25 seats, £1000 each, keep costs down to £5, they would have stormed it.

EDIT: And let's not forget they had to set their ticket prices before negotiating the entrance fees, as no-one in the world has done ever.

You say that, but the other team managed to pick a better price point without an issue, also plucked out of the air. They just did it better.

Besides, in that group somebody must have been able to take a stab at guessing that a couple of attractions would be at least £15-£25 before any discount, that's not hard to fathom.

Sugar does come out with some rubbish, but I think he was right on that one.

The most pressing problem with the whole format is that it's based solely on one off sales - if the customer isn't actually happy with the product there is no penalty.

In the real world, if you sell a shit product at a high price, you may make an inital profit, but your customer base vanishes.

This should be reflected in tasks like this by polling the actually customers. Karen or Nick should ask at the end, would you use this service again? Those that say yes - amalgmate their future ticket sales with the actual sales on the day and use this figure in the boardroom.

That way the candidates won't get away with those horrible sandwiches again.

The actual problem is that Alan picks an issue (usually one of a litany of small failings) and drives it into the ground in the boardroom, and then the whole show is edited to make it look like Alan has a fucking clue what he's talking about by focusing on the thing he picked up on in the boardroom.

I've always presumed they are given some kind of prepack options from the TV researchers. So it would be a choice of say 10 attractions, with a list of 'group' member prices, what it offers etc and then the team choose their tour from there. Otherwise there would be all kinds of problems of arranging meets, getting filming permission, etc.

See, I actually think Mark is great, because he's the most honest person I think we've seen in any series and that's unheard of; we're used to seeing everybody backstab everybody else so for him to lay into Dan both in the boardroom then back at the house was quite refreshing.

Heh, we both think there's something wrong with Mark - he's very political and always playing mind games with the others, and checking he's in shot before doing anything. Sets off our psychopath radar. Because there's so many candidates it's hard to tell who is good - there are still more than 10 left in the competition, and that's as many as you get at the start of a "normal" series of the Apprentice.

It's disgraceful that Sanjay got away with pulling the two women into the boardroom to save his bro James - guess they're pals for life now after the top bants on the bus tour. Lord Sugar should've fired them both on the spot just for that.

If you enjoyed the cringe factor in the coach trip, try watching episode 3 of Jewish Mum of the Year (Channel 4 - short contest with 4 tasks): http://www.channel4.com/info/press/programme-information/jewish-mum-of-the-year-1

Ok this may be obvious but I have to say it, these people who go on the trips like last week, the customers. Obviously they can see the cameras and have to be cleared and so on....so surely the producers must brief them. The coach people surely were told, look, dont expect the best time here, we're filming and looking for entertaining mistakes. Similarly to, say, the buyers at a supermarket who are witnessing "team tenacity" pitch at them. They are told be be aware to be expecting a bit of a laughable pitch from some wanabe business idiots.

tl;dr, the members of the public must be briefed to expect stupidity, right? surely even subsidised payments for the coach trips too?

I actually liked that task, mainly because the teams had a physical project they created themselves and actually could sell, rather than the whole 'pretend orders'. Nice twist.

Thought GeoKnow was a great, simple idea that would be easy to build future versions of, too. The Relationship Guru was terrible, not just because of the questions, but just the whole premise.
