Gomorrah (TV series)

This is back on the 29th, on overseas Sky Atlantic at least. Pretty sure there's nothing else going on that day. (Actually, I guess there's a reasonable chance that Gomorrah might actually cheer me up for once, rather than the opposite...)

No news that I can find on a UK broadcast so far, but I imagine it won't be long behind on UK Sky / Now TV.

Here's the trailer:

Starts again this Wednesday with a double bill on Sky (and maybe the full season on NowTv?)

It's quite possibly the very best thing I've seen on Nowtv. Very much looking forward to its return.

Spoiler

I'm gonna miss Ciro though

Hmm, I just finished and overall I found this series pretty underwhelming to be honest. It was always going to be a struggle to fill the Ciro sized hole, but I did have some hopes that Patrizia's character would offer something great in a different way. In reality she spent most of the season looking uncomfortably into the distance and failing to show any chemistry with her utterly unconvincing husband. I also thought his family were completely unbelievable and uninteresting throughout.

I don't mean to stink up the thread, but it feels like so many shows outstay their welcome these days. This could have signed off satisfactorily at the end of season 3.

I was getting into this in a major way until episode 11. Is there much point in watching further?

Spoiler

Lady Imma carried the show for me. I don't understand what the series gains from her departure. A matriarch stepping up in a brutal world of men was the most interesting theme in the whole thing, I thought. That, and a son who didn't seem cut out to take over. With both of those ideas already cast aside, I'm not sure what's left. Should I stick with it?

Italy is fucking years behind the rest of Europe in its treatment of women, Don't expect any better treatment in season 2. Gianerro will surprise you though.

Yes, it's consistently brilliant. Don't worry - Lady I's not the last strong female character you'll encounter.

It's not going to get any cheerier though...

There was a film released 'L'immortale' recently in Italy that precedes the next season ( think it takes place during the current season ) Looking forward to seeing it, and next season will be a banger!

Really wasn’t expecting that. Can’t wait.

L’Immortale is now available to watch on Sky. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Basically a two hour episode of Gomorrah, which is fine by me.

Where does it fit in with the TV series? Do you have to be up to date? I got to series 3 then got sidetracked.

*Edit* Just saw the post above. So I guess I'm best to catch up first!

I can't believe I never got round to watching this when it originally came out, even though I saw the film.  I'm three episodes into S1, and completely hooked. It's so good!

Thanks for the endorsement in the ZeroZeroZero thread @Bazjam!

The fifth - and final - season appeared in mid-December, slightly out of nowhere. I was aware that it was on the way, but hadn't thought or read anything about it for months, to the extent that I'm only discovering this fact now, 6 weeks later. Anyone watched it yet?

Of course, now I have the dilemma of whether to start on this or Succession season 3 next.

Yep, I watched it. This is a show that has kept its quality all the way through, and the final season didn’t disappoint. Not how I would’ve ended things, but does wrap everything up.

Yeah watched it, really. Enjoyed it, as is often the case I think it's good they drew things to a close at this point. Quality program though and I'm always surprised more people haven't seen it!
