Studio Ghibli - All films on Netflix

I saw it on opening night, and thought it was astonishing. The set designs, lighting, music, and the puppets are all exceptional. There was a gasp when the reveal happened. They asked people not to spoil the surprise by taking photos (but people did). I'd avoid looking for them if you intend to see it.

I was initially worried about the age of the actresses (and didn't see anything before the curtain went up), but both were great.

5/5 from me.

I went last night. Wow! Beautifully done. Best (better? Quite possibly) puppeteering I've seen since His Dark Materials at the National. And yeah, echoing earlier post but the music performance, sets, actors, everything just spot on.

Well that was incredible. Can’t believe they pulled it off, one of the best things I’ve seen on stage in years. Literally cried with joy when they did the Totoro reveal.

I'd be a liar if I said I didn't well up at times too. Either through reveals or the music.

Is Studio Ghibli no more right now? I know that When Marnie Way There was meant to be the last, and that was back in 2014. But then we got The Red Turtle, which was more a collaboration and since that the atrocity that was Earwig and the Witch. The fact that it's part of Studio Ghibli annoys me, everything about it stinks, especially as I have every other film on DVD and buying that one would only be to complete the collection as I'll never ever watch it again.

Anyway, Miyazaki is meant to be doing a new film at some point but there's very little detail on it and outside that there isn't any talk of future projects either which is really sad.

I know the heart and soul of the company was/is Miyazaki, Takahata and Suzuki, but surely there are other story tellers out there can carry on the wonderful tales/style that only Studio Ghibli deliver.

With Miyazaki coming out of retirement, Studio Ghibli re-opened with many of its past collaborators working on the project.[2]

In October 2017, Studio Ghibli announced the film would be titled How Do You Live?

According to Wikipedia it is reopened as How Do You Live is in production.

Can't stop thinking about how good this was. The RSC really did a phenomenal job in adapting this so well. I think the extended run time really helps the emotional impact of the story. As much as I adore the film, this production really captured my heart, and had me so invested in the characters.

So many great moments, but as many have said, the initial Totoro reveal is magical. The cast were all brilliant, particularly the guy playing the father, but special mention must go to the puppeteers. They were fantastic. Particularly all their comic asides.

On a separate note. The National Theatres production of Phillip Pullmans The Book Of Dust, which also features fantastic puppet work, is now available to stream on their At Home service. Watched it the other night and it's also brilliant. Just wish they'd filmed their staging of His Dark Materials Trilogy, which unfortunately I didn't get to see at the time.
