They improved the gameplay for a more pleasant gaming experience. Nintendo appears to have just discovered patch notes.

Those guys should still appear randomly and some will have the weapon.

Ganon fell today.

 

I'd posted before about how I'd snuck into Hyrule Castle at the beginning of the game and promised to return by kicking the doors down rather than sneaking through, and I did. It was amazing to have felt like this:

 

 

 

 

 

 

And end up like this:

 

 

 

 

 

 

As I walked through the ruins of Hyrule Town I felt genuinely angered. I remembered these locations. People used to live in these streets - loved ones dancing and glancing into each other's eyes, a young girl singing, doggies frolicking... Now it's all death and destruction, and rusting Guardians carrying out their one task of culling whatever they see. The Master Sword glowed in my hand, and it was hungry.

 

I assured it it would have its time.

 

I began walking the path towards the Castle and saw the gates were shut. I thought that must have been the King's last order; a pathetic last attempt at keeping some of the evil at bay. Magnesis swung them open with an angry clang, alerting a flying drone Guardian above. I simply looked up at it, whispered 'fuck you' and let an ancient arrow fly.

 

This drew too much attention. An immobile Guardian nearby immediately began targeting me - I sprinted out of the way but a cannon Guardian took notice as well. I let off another shot of an ancient arrow towards the latter but missed. The immobile Guardian streamed a laser into my back and I was slammed to the ground. I was careless with my anger.

 

Think, Link.

 

I needed speed. Zig-zagging to and fro to narrowly avoid the cannon's fire, I was able to Stasis the immobile Guardian at the last second before plunging the Master Sword into it, as the cannon dumbly lasered its own apparent ally, exploding it. I ran forwards up the path, towards the first gatehouse. The Master Sword glowed in my hand. It told me there was danger to come, and sure enough two more cannon Guardians, perched atop the gatehouse's edges, lit up as I crested the hill bend. Ridiculous. Many of my memories were lost but I could remember the hours and hours spent around this castle and walking its corridors. I knew how to get to them.

 

I sprinted forward, feeling the heat of the laser fire behind me as I rolled onto my ass and into the gatehouse, only for the portcullis to slam down behind and in front of me.

 

This I didn't remember.

 

 

A white-maned Lynel had been waiting on the floor above. It had seen my approach from the beginning. Shit. Jumping down to greet me, the beast drew its sizeable blade and roared, saliva flying onto the stone floor.
 
I realised I was still on the floor as it charged me. I went to draw the Master Sword as I stood up but my posture wasn't even good enough to be considered amateurish; the Lynel struck me, I winced and I... felt nothing. I heard Daruk's voice and thanked him for his protection. I opened my eyes fully to see the Lynel surprised and stunned. I didn't need to wait for a second chance, and the Master Sword earned its first genuine kill.

 

 

The gates reopened and I wiped the sweat from my brow. I could hear the whirs of the cannon Guardians still above. Climbing the ladder to the side, I grinned. Despite what had just happened, I knew this would be easy. Approaching from the rear, I tinked the Master Sword onto the cannon. It prematurely ejaculated laser fire at nothing in the distance in surprise, as it turned round to see me plunge my blade deep into its eye. It immediately powered down and collapsed into a bunch of bolts. The same operation on the west end of the gatehouse proved equally successful and fruitful.

 

Walking further up the path took me into the courtyard - once the Hyrule guards' area of choice to practice their skills and swordsmanship. Now it was decimated with malice. I would have to divert around to be able to progress, but I knew a shortcut. It was my job to know every area of this particular area of the castle after all. I climbed up nearby walls into Princess Zelda's room. A Moblin had set up camp at her desk, prodding pathetically at her diary. The Master Sword pulsed. I told it I needed it for bigger prey. Reaching to my inventory, I threw a weapon at its head. The results were... satisfactory. I pocketed its severed horn for elixirs later on, trying not to remember how this room once was. One of Zelda's bows was on the mantelpiece, still. I took it. She might need it back soon.

 

The corridor I had planned to walk down had collapsed on itself, so I took another trip up the outer wall, and glided back down to the second gatehouse. The setup was the same as before, but this time I could bank on what was coming. Having the upper hand reminded me of how Urbosa used to tease us.

 

 

As I inched my way into the gatehouse, I left my back purposefully to the Lynel I was sure that was within. The gates once more thudded closed as I got in, and I heard the slam of a beast behind me. Both traps were set and I unleashed Urbosa's Fury. Thunder erupted around the gatehouse and I could hear the two cannon Guardians explode above, but the Lynel managed to jump out of range. I heard it laugh before it belched an enormous fireball at me. My armour helped to cook me in my own skin and I began to fall... I heard a whisper from Mipha, and felt her Grace within my heart. It picked me up as I circled the Lynel, ready to pounce after it had exerted itself too much after its attack. The gates reopened.

 

The path to the Sanctum was relatively clear now. As I approached the entrance I drew the Master Sword in preparation. It appeared to glow more brightly than ever, pulsing gently with light at the same tempo as a squelching pulsating sound emanating from within the chamber.

 

I walked in, and held my drawn blade aloft to help illuminate the disgusting sight on the ceiling. An enormous sac of Malice bubbled and writhed as if disgusted at its own contents. A foetus of the worst evil erupted from within, as a horrific beast that had not yet been able to regenerate into man belched out into the world.

 

 

The weight of the beast crushing down onto the Sanctum floor of such a decayed castle was simply too much to bear. The stone gave way beneath Ganon and we fell; him clawing against the wall and grinding down, me floating down with my paraglider. Ganon unleashed its ridiculous array of weaponary as it slammed itself onto the basement chamber floor. I trusted my Champions' spirits, and as Ganon went to take its first swing the arena was flooded with light as the Divine Beasts unloaded into this devil, their century-old purpose now finally complete.

The Master Sword was in my hand yet I didn't remember drawing it. I lunged forward, parrying the surprised beast's swings and carving anything that was within reach. Ganon was surprised, leapt backwards to clamber the wall and unleash a stream of hellfire that begin to stream across the floor, but I immediately took to the air from the updraft of his own creation and let fly with a volley of ancient arrows into every half-formed pustule in Ganon's body. It screamed, possibly at its own stupid manoeuvre, and fell to the floor as the Master Sword once again drew itself and was plunged deep into the beast's head. Ganon bucked wildly, throwing me away from it. The Sword was still plunged deep into its skull. Ganon raised its cannon arm to fire laser blasts at me, but I had come prepared for this eventuality. Drawing my Ancient Shield, I parried the blasts back at him, and the very last shot struck the hilt of the Master Sword, stabbing it all the way through Ganon's skull, defeating the foe.

It writhed in pains it had surely not ever felt (less awoken to after a 100-year slumber). I grabbed for the Sword, and as I touched it I sensed Zelda's presence, and felt a warmth that had for too long been absent.

At the next moment I was in Hyrule Field, watching as the malice that had swarmed around Hyrule Castle now formed into one disgusting beast. I heard Zelda's voice now more clearly than ever. This was to be the last battle.

I then heard a whinny that snapped me out of staring at what was forming in front of me. Epona? And she was carrying a bow? My bond with this beautiful creature had spanned years. I mounted without hesitation and picked up the bow, as Zelda's voice and instructions once again became clear to me. Taking aim with this bow illuminated yet-to-be-formed parts of this beast, and my mission became obvious.

I rode for what felt like miles around this enormous being until there was just one point left. I couldn't reach it on horseback alone, and the beast was beginning to charge me. I had to take a risk... As I jumped off Epona I thanked her, then crouched on the floor to settle my mind. One second was all it took but it felt like days as I remained motionless amongst the blades of grass. I could feel the winds buffet me as Ganon began to charge, but I knew that those winds were not from him. Revali's Gale took me into the air, and an entire journey's preparation simmered down into this one moment. Time slowed, and I fired what I would hope would be my final ever arrow of this kind. As I fell back to the ground, I could see its golden beam penetrate deep into Ganon, as a beautiful and familiar figure began to appear from within it.

Light from darkness.

The unmistakable aura of Princess Zelda materialised in front of Ganon as her stunning Triforce of Wisdom power blinded and crushed this... this most terrible of all evils.

 

 

As the battle finished, Link and Princess Zelda were finally, finally reunited.

 

I, meanwhile, shed a tear at the ending, and let out two gentle but audible weeps as my adventure - my main adventure - came to a close.

So the last puzzle seems to want you to try and carry the ball across two conveyor belts and past laser beams, using the stone blocks to block the lasers. Too much effort. Instead, I time stopped the ball, whacked the crap out of it with my sword and launched it across the gap like a golf ball.

I kept away from the ruins outside the castle as they seemed to be crawling with Guardians.... is there anything special in there like a cut scene or special memory?

I think it is well worth sneaking into the castle while you are still weak. Scouting around, running from guardians, grabbing might weapons that will amaze you at their stats. Then sneaking out again before you get killed. 

 

It just makes it all the sweeter when you get to go back fifty hours later with master sword in hand and a big grin.

 

Hyrule caste is actually one of my favourite places on the whole map. The climbing is fun, the enemies are strong and the rewards are great (and there are little secrets all over the place).

Funny isn't it how different shrines suit different people. I found that one quite straightforward but some of the other shrines have left me frustrated and feeling stupid. I've reverted to YouTube for a couple and am pretty sure I would never have solved them without help.

No, i don't think there's a memory or cutscene in the ruins immediately outside the castle. there are some elsewhere on the plain.

I completely fluked it.

 

One of the large blocks fell off and landed diagonally between the two conveyor belts, blocking one of the lasers permanently without needing stasis to keep it in position. So I could just stasis whatever other laser I needed to turn off to stroll past.

Got that, defeated the mini boss just after and wandered to meet the second. Keep seeing the town off in the distance and thinking there was something worth getting, but I'll give it a miss. Those Guardians just kick my arse every single time.

THe same thing happened to me, @smac, and I did actually make it to the far end carrying the ball by throwing it between the conveyor belts and jumping between them myself, although it was arduous and took many goes to perfect. However, on my best go, I threw the ball and it went down between the backwards conveyor and the final platform, falling into the darkness and respawning back at the start. That's when I had the idea for the way that finally worked...

I loved what you got as a reward. It's the perfect reward for then going on to fight Ganon (although this will be the 2nd time I've taken him down. 

So looks like now need Dragon parts to upgrade the Tunic! I've just got to upgrade it. 

I've partially moved onto Persona 5, but also don't want this game to end. It's just incredible and firmly hit into my top 5. I have around 30 Side quests left so shall most certainly be mopping them up before taking on Ganon for the 2nd time. 

It's just a monumental game and totally took me by surprise. I expected the game to be good, but just not this good.

Did you find the shrines naturally or did you use a guide? I'm on about 108 but have only just unlocked the final area. I can't see there being 12 shrines in one place, however, so God alone knows where the last few are. I've scoured the entire map pretty thoroughly twice now.

 

In other news, I climbed the last tower tonight (Central Hyrule) and completely unlocked the map. Instead of feeling happy I just feel sad that I'm coming to the end
