Master Sword -

So after major questing today I finally got enough shrines to grab this beauty and..... it's a bit shit for damage  30! I had a knights broadsword with 36.

It's

60 damage against bosses, Ganon and guardians

And you can shoot with it.

The main reason I've been pushing for it

Spoiler

is because I spent 2 hours last night having my arse handed to me by the Naboris boss. That thing is a twunt to beat and no matter what weapon I used or elixir I drank it kept knocking me out. This sword better do the trick.

What bit were you having trouble with, specifically? Defeating that boss is all about timing your parries, and then figuring out what to do with the lightning rods (this latter bit took me a while, admittedly).

I'm shit at the dodging. No matter how I timed it, kept getting hit.

Are you trying to dodge (pressing X) to get the flurry rush, or are you trying to parry (pressing A) to deflect his attack with your shield and then go for the counter attack? I don't know if dodging works, but the timing for parrying is quite generous. He tends to zoom to one place, quickly appear and then zoom to where you are and attack, which is when you press A. If you can parry guardians consistently, he's not too difficult. I got away with spamming A as soon as I saw his attack animation and it worked most of the time.

I was locked on to him and had the shield up, when he zoomed in I'd press back and X. Most of the time I'd end up getting hit.

Spoiler

Have a go at parrying with the shield next time instead. The animation isn't as long as the back flip, so you should be able to get it. As soon as he goes into his quick zoom attack mode, make sure you've got L pressed down to have your shield raised, then press A when you think he's about to hit you. Like I said earlier, he tends to zoom to one spot, pause, and then zoom in front of you before quickly attacking, so that's when you want to hit A.

He's going down tomorrow!

So today was the day Gannon went down, I was on 77 shrines (7 being the best number, hmm 777 kook seeds.... arrrghhhh) so it seemed time - that and Atheon was played this morning in my other time sink..

Spoiler

The actual battle was not that great, pretty std Zelda boss tbh and I didnt really work out the pattern but could just beat him with power - having said that I didnt work out how to 'fire' the master sword, thought it said R but that looked like it would just throw it?

The second part was a bit random and was that Epona?

Down he went, loved every second of this game and hit continue straight away - found an area I hadn't been before, 80 shrines now and no chance I will stop playing this.

I was wandering around for a bit and spotted a green glow so chased it down, just as I was about to go to it a shooting star zipped past so I diverted off to find that and once I got it I had lost the green glow - I did find a pond and some blossom where I thought it was, is that what I think it is and was the green glow leading me there?

Best game ever, Mario 64 has finally been knocked off and by a game in a genre (open world) I hate :o

This is such a relaxing game to play. I've played for hours, just meandering around not really knowing what I'm meant to be doing, not having a particular direction in mind and just seeing where it takes me. Think I've done about eight shrines, unlocked one memory and have 4 hearts. Also found one great fairy fountain (near Impa's village).

Lovely game.

It's so weird when people quote a long playtime along with the zero Divine Beast fact. There's loads to do, but how could you not go check one out?

I've just always assumed it would be too hard!

Then the lightning came. Had an idea to drop EVERYTHING to avoid getting zapped. Unfortunately my huge pile of metal was a lightning conductor itself and the whole pile got blown to pieces. Went back to survey the damage and the boomerang was giving a strange glow - as it got hit by lightning and zapped me in the process!

You dont need to drop stuff do you? You can just unequip all metal stuff.

This game! I'm staggered by how big it is, and how packed it is with stuff to discover. I'm 85 hours on the clock and I'm only one divine beast down, with 57 shrines, 111 koroks, 11 hearts and two full stamina wheels. I think I've fairly comprehensively explored four regions - the rest are mysteries. I've done Vah Ruta - no spoilers please, but any hints as to what the next one might be good to head for? There's a weird green glow coming from what looks like the Rito domain...

They are effectively the main dungeons. Go look at one. They have fast travel points at the start so it's not like you can't leave. If anything they are a huge spectacle and well worth a close look at.

I did that. And used the two fire rods I found. Still impossible to discern any actual route - the "lamps" you light don't actually make a path.

Yes they do!

Spoiler

Did you not follow where their faces were pointing? It's a little bit tricky but it totally sets out a fair route. At one point they seemed to double me back, but then I saw one that was hidden while approaching from the other side. And it led me over a wall, so I had to put my torch out to climb it before finding the next one.

I really loved that bit, surprised I haven't seen more chat about it. Super atmospheric.

Yeah, a gazillion. You've got to properly grind away for this one.

Some of the armour upgrades from the fairies takes a lot of doing too. Right pain in the arse.

One man's meat, as they say - this is one of my favourite bits at the moment. I visit those big beautiful drag queens and note down what I need for the next upgrade, and make a point of going to areas where I might find some. Always find something new, or at least get in a fun fight, while I'm doing it.

I've got Thursday off work and no plans, can't bloody wait to sink into a whole day of this.

Same, I think.

My love for Mario 64 is fuelled by memories of pure teenage excitement, wonder and hype, but think this has pipped it.

I was still glowing having unequipped it all so thought I'd try dropping it all. Guess it did work...with consequences!

I did, but they often had two facing each other!

You only need to unequip your bow, shield and weapon. And only if they're metal (they'll be "sparking" in your inventory if so).
