If we're talking fishing, here's a tip:

Spoiler

Use a food that gives the special effect for the fish type to attract them. Want Hearty Bass? Throw in a couple of Durians to lure them over, Mighty carp? Try bananas :)

I'm more surprised you haven't done any of them by this point. Are you not even touching side quests? There's more to the game than climbing and looking at places

Yes, I've done a few side quests. I've been concentrating on getting hearts and korok seeds. Oh, and just having aimless fun. I'm pretty sure though that even if I tried to stay focused I wouldnt have got near completing in 50 hours.

Yesterday I went in search of the red dragon Danraal (?) and, although I occasionally saw him flying high above me, I didn't actually find him despite some mighty mountain climbing and got side tracked by other stuff instead. Anyway jump to this morning and there's me stood on the skull of a huge dead critter skeleton casually dropping bombs on an enemy camp below when the wind comes up a bit and the dragon gloriously flew right over my head. Unfortunately my bow was a bit underpowered and/or I misjudged the wind speed and I didn't hit him (or alternatively I couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo ). Then my bow broke...

Anyway I got a brand spanking new bow from one of the bombed out moblins and I'm now camped out on the dead critter skull waiting for Danraal to come over again. It was about 2:30 am Hyrule time when he first flew over so hopefully he'll come round again :)

I need a scale of his, too - I was heading towards his last known location, when I suddenly saw him flying along the valley just below me!

He was just out of my arrow range, and then I got tangled up in fighting skeletal moblins and missed my chance! But he was

flying low along the low terrain to the north of Death Mountain - in the evening, I think.

I need to track him down too. If you have the upgraded tablet you can take a photo of him and register your sensor to track him down instead of shrines.

Great idea but hopefully he'll come along to me. I'm fairly high up at a point where he flew down low previously. I got a scale from another dragon in an aerial gliding and shooting extravaganza (shooting off those gunk things) and the idea of just standing on a skull and firing off a few arrows when he happens by seems quite a good plan

In other news I actually found my first memory at a spring yesterday. I must have played for getting on for 50 to 60 hours and opened up 60% of the map in the process without happening across one single memory before that

Ah. That's why you're hunting dragons...

Spotting a memory location without a clue from someone familiar with say, the artistry of the landscape, is a great feeling; there are a couple you probably do need some help with, but most have a couple of key features that make it possible to track 'em down. You need to be close - I must have walked past the last one several times when looking for it.

Those spots can be annoying at times, I was in the right area for one but couldn't see it anywhere. They don't seem to pop up until you are close enough.

That's the joy of them. Trying to work out exactly where the photo was taken.

My Switch version will be arriving today, so when I get home I'll be restarting from scratch. I've got a few things I want to do:

No fast travel

No selling anything unless I know where to replace it

No moving on to unlock another tower until I've rinsed the area thoroughly

Any other suggestions? Anything you wish you'd done or known first time through?

Turn off the HUD the moment you come out of stasis.

Try and sleep at night time. Make it compulsory to stay at an inn.

Buy the Hylian Tunic set and dye it all green. Make that your main set of armour for standard exploration and combat.

I wish I could start again. I'd role-play each village, just like I did with Lurelin, and maybe even each stable until I feel that it's adequate to move on.

Also, it's not really possible to 'rinse' Hyrule Field before moving on, this is what set my casual exploration attitude for the first half of my game up until now. Once you get to Kakariko it's probably best to start role-playing.

I definitely wish I'd taken it a bit slower. I'm on my way to the last divine beast and I've unlocked three towers in fairly quick succession without exploring the areas thoroughly. The need to see everything is just so compulsive. Hopefully once the last beast is done I can slow down.

Wait until the 'hard mode' DLC is unlocked?

also -

don't use quest markers

disable devine beast powers when you get them

don't use the scope to tag things on the horizon

don't use the radar thingy

IMO - I think no fast travel would be too much for me.  I tend to explore by myself... but every now and again I'm at one side of the map and figure 'hey - I wouldn't mind being up at Akkala right now...'

I use fast travel for shopping trips - the old, 'OK, I need to whizz 'round and stock up on arrows by visiting Beedle at every stable'; or 'OK, I have a random selection of all these bits of junk and monster parts; time to visit a Fairy' or 'I need more Ancient Arrows because I'm shit at blocking Guardians...'.

Yeah I know the artist gives clues but I decided that that would be too much of a chore and my plan of just bumping into them would be just as quick...... Hmmm

I spent a good 15 minutes search the west side of Death Mountain for the one overlooking the bokoblin training camp and came away empty handed.

Not sure if this is common knowledge yet but cooking 1 big hearty radish on its own fills up all your hearts and gives you 5 extra.

Saves trying random combo's for similar effects!

There are a couple of recipes upthread that give you varying amounts. Similar to yours, try

2 big hearty radishes and 3 small ones

Although as time goes on, I note that there is a maximum limit to the number of hearts in total that you can have, so the extra hearts are much less important.

Yeah, the woodland glades are the hardest to pinpoint without his help.

Anything with a monumental bit of architecture - or a big ol' mountain split into two in the middle distance - is relatively easy to work out.

I'd have booked the week off work if I had to do anything differently.
