If you've been anywhere near the location, or seen half the other memories, or spoken to any one of about 30 different people who tell you how or where Link "died", it's pretty obvious.

Yeah, I have a list of places to visit, but thanks for the added hint.

And thanks to all the tips for the duplex bow. I actually started working towards the associated Divine Beast, but couldn't work out how to complete 'that' mission, so went off to complete the rest of the map and the memories, and ended up doing Rito village and that beast first, instead.

So I'll probably pick one up pretty soon, when I do the last beast.

Like I say, I'll stick with it - I'm sure it just needs to click. Don't get me wrong , I am enjoying aspects of it, I think I'm just worry about missing something and its spoiling it a bit. I think I'll just crack on with the main story a bit . Bear in mind I am quite early on, i've only just got the camera.

Everyone is going to miss some stuff in the game unless they sit there with a guide. It really doesn't matter. The game is so big and there is so much content that you're not going to feel unsatisfied or like you're missing out. Everyone is going to have their own path and story through the game.

Also, a lot of stuff is kind of repeated through the game world. I don't mean that in a negative way, it's deliberate so that you don't need to comb every square inch of the game to be able to see most of the enemy types, puzzle types and shrine types, for example.

Yeah, 900+ Korok seeds aren't there because you gotta catch em all; they're there so everyone can find sufficient to expand their inventories by a decent amount, whichever way they play.

Found a sneaky shrine last night.

Actually in the castle environs, near one of the entry points (one of those mentioned when you talk to people in nearby stables).

I'm on the top of a very high, snowy mountain (near the Rito people), at a Korok pinwheel....and nothing's happening! :omg:

Edit: if I run over the snow near the pinwheel, there's a jingly, crunchy noise that happens over and over....what does it all mean?!

Use a leaf on it? There's one near there you do that on and some targets appear.

I already had it! I have so many clothes I didn't recognise it in the picture. This is what it must feel like to be Carrie Bradshaw.

Just do what you want. Don't mop everything up as you'll drive yourself crazy. Initiate as many side quests as you can by talking to people though, and you'll complete a lot of them by accident. You won't miss anything as it becomes easier to revisit areas and explore them as the game goes on.

Gotta say, at the moment. This isn't clicking with me. It's massively impressive on a technical level. But its just.. I don't know. Im almost forcing myself to play it. I think I;m trying to do too much, I usually try  and mop up all the side quests available before moving the main quest on with open world stuff, and I get the feeling that;s not how this should be played.

Don't worry, my first two or three hours were very similar. An initial OMG leaving the shrine, followed by vague disappointment, particularly as I was deep in to Horizon and it felt quite slow and drab in comparison. However, after a few more hours it clicked, the sense of adventure crept in, and now I'm completely in love with it.

Just pick a point on the horizon and have an adventure.

Definitely don't worry about missing anything... if I would suggest one thing it would be avoid fast travelling.  Get a horse to move around faster if you need to... but if you've got a goal in mind, walk or ride to it.

I hardly ever use horses to be honest and tend to explore on foot, paragliding, climbing and sometimes shield surfing as required. I tend to fast travel mainly to restock for arrows, upgrade armour or runes and whatnot or occasionally when feeling battered by the weather. That said if I suddenly have the urge to open up the map at the other end of the game world it usually makes sense to fast travel to the nearest shrine or tower opened up rather than travel on foot and inevitably get distracted doing something else

Your last point is the reason why I'm 3 beasts in but still have one area in the map undiscovered...

ah, wait - I found an encampment of moblins between the twins bridge and the fort, on a slight rise, last night; they had stuck a pattern of a dozen swords into the ground (maybe it was Koroks); they might have been traveller's swords.

No, they were traveller's claymores. Given how picky the little brat is (weapons nerds, tchuh,) I bet he won't accept that.

And yeah, I found what I was looking for in the area where I thought it would be. So that muddy picture was useful enough.

Has anyone actually had a dog lead them to treasure? They follow me for a bit, then give up and go back. I've fed 'em steaks, watched them chase their tails and the rest, but never has one pointed me treasure-ward.

Took 3 apples, it got that pink love effect and a dog walked over to a chest behind a tree.

Maybe you found the treasure first?

Every time. Few chicken drumsticks and a steak and they'll walk somewhere then sit down.

Tbh I've taken to scouting out the area with magnesis any time I see a dog, just to stick two fingers up at the fact a befriended one won't follow me quick enough to keep up in my travels :(

I did a shrine with my 4 year old's help yesterday, and I love that he can apply real-world logic rather than just 'game logic' to solve problems. There was a button pad that needed holding down to open a door, but there was nothing obvious around to keep it weighed down apart from Link himself. His idea was to put a heavy weapon on it, so I did. It actually slightly depressed the pad. So I dropped another one on it and, to my surprise, it worked, and the sesame was opened. In hindsight I think I was 'supposed' to use Statis to keep it down but it's great that we could hack our own solution.

I then used a bomb arrow to blast an orb down from its pedestal. Luckily it landed somewhere accessible and I just lobbed it over a gap into its socket. Again, I don't think that's the optimal solution, but it worked!

You sound like how I felt for the opening 10-15 hours or so.  My OCD means if there's a possibility I'll miss something I get really stressed and thus not get much enjoyment out of whatever I'm playing.  Similarly when I chose a quest / side quest I want to stick with it until its done, which really isn't the way it works (not very often anyway) with this game.

As soon as I started wandering around things just seemed to fall into place.  Initially I spent ages trying to find 10 jumping crickets with no luck, I started ignoring the quest and went for a walk around and before I knew  it I had 15 of the buggers!

If there was an instruction manual with this game, it should just say 'go and explore', as when you do everything just develops before you naturally.

Yes. I like it when open world games have 'ambient' side-missions that you can keep in the back of your head to keep things rewarding. San Andreas had this with the car exports (keeping an eye out for certain models to jack and take to the San Fierro docks) and Red Dead Redemption with the hunting of animal pelts.

That crickets side mission is a lot easier once you've upgraded the Shiekah Slate to unlock its amazing homing properties! Getting a photo of a cricket is easier said than done though.

I don't think you can get a Travellers Broadsword? I'm pretty sure the couple I saw were Travellers Swords

EDIT: Yeah, I'm 99% sure they were Travellers Swords.
