Anyway, memory related spoilers:

In the one where Link is essentially being knighted, did you notice the references to Wind Waker, Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword, all as events that happened in the past?

And also, re: Links' Awakening

On the Links' Awakening thing... I've only..

Found one big skelington... but it was definitely the remains of Levias from Skyward sword.  I think there's 4 all around Hyrule.

There are three. There's a quest for it.

yeah - I've got the quest... must've mis-read it.

I've spent in inordinate amount of time just fannying about in the Hebra Mountains.  Reminded me of a game that I think only I played, Cursed Mountain.  High up in the snow, remote, small outpost in the distance.  Some great atmosphere.

You can't (as far as I can see) mix up critters as much as regular food, simply because there are fewer of them. Adding more critters definitely helps, more monster parts doesn't seem to have much effect. Having said that, my daughter mixed two identical potions the other night, and one had twice the duration - there wasn't a blood moon or anything like that, so it seemed random. We checked the ingredients for both - exactly the same, but one was 5 minutes and one was 10. No idea what was going on there, some kind of potion-making critical hit?

I had what I'm coming to consider a classic BotW moment last night - a side quest that seemed to be jinxed by bad weather, making the intended task very frustrating and ultimately leading to failure due to an unsuccessful workaround, shortly followed by the realisation that I'd overlooked a very simple option and any fault lay entirely with my own lack of lateral thinking, rather than with the game. It's really quite annoying, not being able to blame the game.

Did dufferent happy music play with one of them? Random bonus effects can happen sometimes.

Spicey Elixir: high level warming effect

Sunshroom
Warm Safflina
Summerwing Butterlfy
Warm Darner
Red Lizalfos Tail

This is why I'm perdonally using a guide for these. I don't have enough to experiment like that!

Hmm, can't remember, but that might make sense. I've been assuming that the music plays the first time you make a particularly good meal, but perhaps it is just a random buff. We had a little session of trying different combos to see what difference it made, but this development derailed it somewhat. Still, you can always put together something for the effect you're after.

I guess one way to test would be to make the same simple meal repeatedly, and see if you get the music and a buff every now and again. Still, I do seem to have had it consistently the first time making a good meal (such as the ones on posters in stables).

I've now spent more than a hundred hours playing this game. Still got 2 guardians and other things I want to do.

I just don't want this game to end.

I was idly riding around last night with my shrine sensor on, hoping for a beep. I don't think we've done much more than half of them, but I didn't get anything. I do have a few shrine quests on the go, but it's a sad day when you realise you might not spot any more orange dots in the distance. Of course I've already been through all that with the towers. Those first hours, where everything seems so vast and mysterious, are amazing. I think it's going to be a long time before anything matches that.

I got the distinct impression that the music only changes when you cook an actual, defined recipe - a cake say (I haven't made a cake, just a random example) as opposed to 4 eggs and some sugar, which might give you, I dunno - Fried sweet eggs.

I think the music is when you make something you haven't made before.

Two beasts down now. Found the Gerudo ones boss quite tricky, ended up using loads of buffs rather than having a clear fighting strategy. Very satisfying when he went down though. The Gerudo Desert is just full of stuff to explore, think I'll stay here a while longer, but I wish I had my very own sand seal.

Cooking music is definitely a "critical hit" of sorts. I was doing batches of apples to sell for money, two of them played the music and were worth 8 hearts instead of 5 (although sold for the same price, so I kept the good ones!)

Any thoughts on the ending for those who've completed it? Be sensitive with your spoilers, of course.

About Calamity Ganon:

Zelda says that he's 'Given up on Reincarnation', & my reaction to that was that it makes him much more boring.  Maybe he'll give the physical body thing another try someday...

About Link & Zelda:

Zelda says that they need to start rebuilding Hyrule, but I'm curious as to how the residents of the land view her?  Do they know that she spent the last 100 years containing Ganon inside the castle (Impa certainly does, but i wonder how widespread that knowledge is) & does this mean that, like Link, she's a person out of time?

In general:

I felt for sure that the Great Plateau would turn out to have some kind of relevance in the story, like it was artificially created & contained some great secret or something.  That still might turn out to be the case in the DLC, but if nothing else I hope that the Temple of Time has some secret to reveal, like it did in Twilight Princess.

I liked it. It was pretty simple and brief, like the memories, but I feel like I've gotten a good sense of who the characters are from a combination of the memories, diaries and the opening and ending cutscenes. Much like FFXV, I think there's a really good story there for people who are willing to look for it and pay attention as they go along.

I think that, in combination with the traditional Hylian landmarks and the Mirror, gives us the timeline placement. Koroks and Rito seem to be products of parallel, similar evolutions between the WW and TP timelines, with the same type of developments that were rushed by the sea in WW happening in the TP timeline over around 10'000 years.

Also, in your ending @deKay:

Spoiler

Did Zelda smile at you at the end?

I had a thought. The whole of Hyrule is so sparsely populated, the death toll from Ganon actually winning would be minimal anyway. Why fight it? Just let him destroy everything.

And half the people in Zoras domain are whinging fuckers, let them burn.

It's this. You can cook the exact same recipe ten times in a row and a couple you'll randomly get the exciting music on.

Oh god...mounted combat makes me feel like I'm winning the grand national crossed with being part of the Magnificent Seven. And I'm pretty sure when Link is mounted, I'm bobbing and leaning on the couch along with him as he rides

Taking a mounted bokoblin down with an arrow when he's only three feet in front of you gives me one a hell of a rush. And the animation of the horse is just brilliant!

Man, just picked up from where I left it the other night with the intention of working my way back to take the Lynel on, only of course I spotted a shrine that I could glide to that's even further away.  Enjoyed doing that but I'm now back outside and I'm getting absolutely battered all of a sudden. There's loads of enemies and they all seem to be able to one hit kill me. Just how hard is that Lynel thing on the mountain? Not sure I want to travel all the way back there to only get smashed to bits. Might be better off going shrine hunting and looking for better gear.

I'm about to get struck by lightning - I'm holding a torch and a wooden shield and non metallic clothing, but all my bow are metal.  Will I have to drop them all not to get struck?

edit: ignore me, just found out you can remove them!
