Here's another impressive achievement. If you've been up Ridgeland Tower, you may have met the chap at the top who runs a gliding minigame, where you see how long you can glide for. A Japanese player managed over 7.6Km of distance in a 22-minute flight which took him all the way to Eventide Island. The secret is lots of bomb arrows and as many stamina elixirs as you can carry. Spoilered for full map reveal.

The hardest fights in the game are the ones that involve multiple normal enemies, any of the single large creatures are generally alright.

I was fighting some Lizaflos and Bokoblins last night, high level but nothing I couldn't deal with, when we were unexpectedly joined by one sword assassin and one arrow assassin. So the fight suddenly became considerably more interesting and I had to grudgingly reach for my special arrows.

Just run away, drop a bomb as you do, and detonate it when you're clear. That'll thin them all out.

This is one of my favourite games ever, but the ending is so inconsequential and disappointing. Don't be in a rush to head to the Castle; Hyrule is the game.

Yeah. Final boss was decidedly lacking in both difficulty and epicness too.

I did the camel temple last night so that's all four temples down. It took me ages to get started on this, I think I was running around for about 15 minutes just trying to wrap my head around where to start. Then I made some more progress but got a little stuck and I think I kind of ended up breaking the progression a bit by using the Rito power to get somewhere it felt I hadn't 'earned'.

I struggled with the boss a bit during the middle part. I did end up figuring out what you needed to do but it was a bit fiddly and wasn't really working so I looked it up online to confirm I was on the right tracks after all. It was a pretty good dungeon but I think the elephant one is still my favourite because it has the best and most distinct gimmick.

Now the question of how much to do before going to Ganon. I have 82 shrines so I'll probably try to mop some up. I'll take a look at my side quests and see what interests me but I don't think I'm terribly interested in doing them all because there's little narrative meat to them and the rewards are not really worth it to me at this stage as I already feel pretty overpowered. I've loved the game but more than 100 hours in I do feel ready to detach myself from it and move on to some short, linear experience that isn't life consuming.

Now to go on some hiking adventures to unlock all the map names (something the guide doesn't cover at all, btw, which is surprising as it counts towards the completion percentage. I'm well disappointed by this)

Oh shit. How are you supposed to track where you haven't been?

Man, this game.

I was exploring a new area, near a lake at night, when a bunch of skeletal moblins erupted from the ground - six of 'em, surrounding me.

Luckily, I was prepared, so they didn't attack; thought I was one of 'em (wink), so I was going to take a selfie with me surrounded by 'em. Then a bloody Keese showed up, attacked me, and then the jig was up; they all realised what I was and turned on me.

I managed to escape up a hill so I could lob bombs; most turned back apart from one guy, I suspect the leader, who followed me as far as he could, then appeared to be standing there making potentially obscene gestures at me from the bottom of the hill.

I was heading to the Guardian in the east a few play sessions back - still haven't got there.

Found a shrine on a windy beach, once I had done that I decided to head towards the Guardian.  However, I spotted a narrow path going on and on and up and up, a few minutes later reached the end of the pathway.  Soared across the open water to a wind tunnel which plonked me atop super high mountains.  Started to rain and found a small unlit campfire under an overhanging rock.  Used a Chu Chu and an arrow to light it and sat there for a bit cooking meals.

Its pretty good this game innit?

It feels to me as if ultimately it'd be possible to find your way around the world in this without consulting the map, if one played it for long enough. I love that notion, that you could become so familiar with a virtual space that you'd just set off somewhere and simply know where to go.

I mean, it's certainly the case with something like Dark Souls, but that's obviously a lot smaller.

I'm beginning to get that feeling - like I said upthread, I found the last few memories without hints, simply by recognizing the likely vantage points (it's easy with stuff like Hyrule Bridge or the twin peaks in shot).

One thing i'm never quite sure of with the Shrine Detector is how good it is at working vertically?  If I jump from a high place & am gliding over the map, could I be missing Shrines that are too far below me to register?

You know, you might be.

I jumped off the top of the tall mountain to the west - the one with the snowboarding runs - to look for a shrine I had marked a rough location for. Nada, until I cut the 'chute and dropped to much nearer to the ground, then the signal cut in. Might have been because I moved forward as well, but seemed more likely to be height was the factor.

On that subject - where do we reckon the highest point in this Hyrule is?

That's what made the Rllmuk minecraft servers so wonderful for me. Loading one of the maps up many years later was like going back to holiday destination from years past.

Zelda is going to have the same effect on me I think.

Is there any actual way of checking how high up you are against another point? The top of Hyrule Castle feels high but is much lower than Death Mountain.

I JUST found a shrine underground. Damn beeping had been driving me crazy for ages, and then I thought to just ... you know ... try something. Obviously, it worked, so now I have to remember the other places that I was struggling to even see the shrine at, and look for other clues.

That I'm still amazed that it is capable of surprising me is true testament to how unbelievably well put together this game's world is.Layers upon layers of depth, people will still be finding new shit in this one in 10 years time.

Oh, yeah - there's sometimes a crack in the cave wall nearby so you can see the glow from the right angle.

Just had one underground where I had to glide to a cave opening half way up a cliff, drop down to the bottom of a shaft (against an updraft) and swim through a low cave wall. Another one where the only entrance was to swim through icy (i.e. damaging) water.

Otherwise, had a few that are simply blocked by rubble at the cave entrance - check all domed/tall rock outcroppings.

See also waterfalls...

I thought that white tree (quest) just to the side of Rito village was a pretty good bet. Spent ages trying to get up there.

I glided down to it from a slightly higher point, I think...

My sense of direction in real-life is terrible. Turn left twice and I'm pretty much disorientated. It's no better in this game :(

Any thoughts on the ending for those who've completed it? Be sensitive with your spoilers, of course.

There's not really an ending, so short that it is.

Is there an option I've missed to fix the mini-map to north is always up?
