The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

I find with the horse dudes that I just out muscle then with a combo of arrows, stasis and wild flailing when he is down - it's not elegant like in that video but in a war of attrition I always win!

I found a fairy today

Spoiler

A horse fairy, no idea how I missed it given it's in horse fairy land over horse fairy bridge...

I am coming up to 100 hours played now, outstanding game and I have no idea how I've got to 100 hours as I'm not sure I have ever spent that long in a single player game ever!

I kinda wish there was an optional overlay on the map to show which areas you've been to.

I suppose it could make exploration feel a bit rote, fill-in-the-map, which is something the way the map reveals in big chunks with only major landmarks named helps avoid. Wonder if they had it in there at some stage?

I want to know everything about how this was created

The making of story of this game would be epic.

So I decided to track my first memory down after getting a clue. It'll only take a few mins.

My horse and I ventured off bravely, knowing it would be dangerous.

We got pretty close before two guardians closed in. I ran for it, aiming to dodge between trees etc, eventually making it close....

I then went back and decided to finally try and kill my first guardian after all your stories here. I succeeded! Easily!

Emboldened by my adventures, I decided to sneak into the castle as well. Some way, somehow, I would do this.

I didn't make it easy on myself, approaching from the south. I clambered through the ruins, sneaking past guardians and eventually reached the main bridge, which I went under and then spotted a korok trail! I followed it and then got twatted by a flying guardian before I found him. I climbed back up, got my korok, and with the last of my stamina I made it onto a ledge.

I climbed some cliffs. It started raining. I waited.

I resumed my climb and, using my last stamina potion, made it to the top. A clear path to another way further up, I climbed above a little tunnel and then turned around - a door!

I made a beeline for it and, once inside, felt immediately safer. And so began my mega adventure in the castle!

Four hours later here I am, with loads of Phat Lewts and a huge sense of achievement. What's next?!

That's how it is on the PS4 too.

Though it's more like:

BAAAAAaaamm (i.e. holding Share).

Wait a second.

Saved. Completely missing the bit you actually wanted saving.

No way I could have taken this with that method:

No? You just tap Share, not hold it down. Maybe you haven't configured the button to work that way. It sometimes takes a second or two to register on-screen it has taken the shot, but it actually takes the shot at the instant you press Share.

I think holding hands and being taken a journey can be incredible too. A different kind of incredible. If it it's shit, you're holding hands with the wrong game developer. Or yeah, you just hate holding hands for some reason. They don't have to be all about spectacle.

Did you not play The Witness last year? BOTW isn't a billion miles away from that. A pure puzzle game yeah, but it's got the same go where you want exploration feeling.  And, like BOTW, features a phenomenally well crafted world. Ludicrously good actually. Special good. The way puzzles are integrated into the environment is incredibly well done.

I haven't played The Witness, but thanks for the heads up. I used to really like the Uncharted games, but UC4 left me a bit cold, very pretty to look at but I wasn't compelled to keep playing like I am with Zelda. It's really sparked off my love of gaming again, to the extent I've just paid for a Switch at Argos (check your local stores for stock everyone) and am more than happy to start again.

Beat the final boss last night, but am now just wandering through areas of the map I didn't explore beforehand, tracking down Shrines & Koroks.

I still blows my mind just how big & yet packed with secrets this gameworld is.

I just did a bunch of tasks in the town full of ladies and got the

Spoiler

THUNDER HELM!!!!1

Also went picking berries and hit the edge of the game world, knew it would happen eventually but was a bit sad when it did. Still got a good quarter of the map to unlock so wasn't sad for long.
