A fellow at Duelling Peaks stable bet I couldn't tame a horse and return it to him in 2 mins. "Get ready for some extreme taming!!!" TheSlugFormerlyKnownAsNap Posted March 24, 2017 Share Posted March 24, 2017 I took down my first big, moving guardians yesterday, but I can't do the shield parrying properly yet (it did work on the small ones in the shrines, but my timing seems off with the big ones). A swift ancient arrow to the eye does wonders though. Spent most of last night fucking around with Bokoblins while wearing a mask to blend in while unlocking new parts of the map. I'm a bit unsure what to do next; keep exploring and leveling up through completing shrines or maybe take a break from messing about and do a stretch of the story (it seems the game wants me to head to Goron City). They aren't usually a problem to deal with, but they are appearing a little too frequently for my liking. I've only done the first Divine Beast, and my WiiU tells me I've played for 78 hours so far. It's just so easy to sink hour after hour into the game, without even really progressing. And yet none of the time feels wasted. If it had a proper photo mode I dread to think how many hours I'd end up playing it, but as it is I can spend ages just being in the world, taking in the lighting, the sound, the landscape. But then something catches your eye, and suddenly it's "Oh look, two guys camping. Horseback archery? Sure, let me just pause my life for another hour. Oh, and you also want me to find a giant horse? Best cancel my plans for the day..." All the while I've got a constantly running 'to do' list of things to get back to - the girl on the beach who wants photos of Guardians, some rock deposits hanging from a cave ceiling that I need to go back to with bomb arrows, a Moblin Club to show that kid back in Hateno Village, etc, etc, etc. And still the game is feeding me more, and more, and more. A new stable with some horse jumping to do for example. More time gone. Oh, and now I'm customising my horse? The clock ticks by. And never any hesitation in doing these things, not one feeling of "Nah, don't fancy that". It's all stuff you just naturally want to do. And it's not even the main quest! That's without mentioning all the scrapes you get into and secrets you find as you go. Killed my first Stalnox last night. Photographed a Lynel. Found a chest behind a waterfall. Met a Horse God. Heard about a Fire Dragon. Shot the dragon near Hylia Bridge. Climbed Hylia Bridge. Found Korok seeds. Bumped into accordion man. Rescued people. Solved shrines. The list is endless. So much to do and see! I think I've only mapped 4 areas of the game so far. Looking at the overall map all 3 of the remaining Diving Beasts are far, far away in unlit areas of the map. I'm actually struggling to get my head round how they've made something so huge feel so packed with incident, whilst also leaving the player space to enjoy a grassy plain with wild horses galloping about. This is probably my gaming highlight of the decade - I've not had this much pleasure, excitement and emotional connection with a game since forever. I have a question for those that have finished the game: Spoiler I've completed the 4 divine beasts and feel ready to go to face Ganon at Hyrule Castle. Am I going to ruin anything (be it story related, side quests or otherwise) if I manage to beat Ganon and 'complete' the main quest line? I've done some non-mainline stuff (I'm about 50 - 60 hours in) but haven't done everything by a long stretch. The one obvious thing I've not completed is the 12 memory location (only done 3 /4 of those). I ask this because my sons want to se me fight Ganon tonight! (oh the pressure ) Please do keep sharing your experiences of the game - this thread is my bedtime reading and I'm very much enjoying it and don't want it to end. I found two last night that I'm not sure were on the list. Two torches on top of Hylia Bridge. One lit, the other not. Light them both. A stump with a metal ball attached to it with a chain. No need to worry if you miss, as the ball is attached to a chain that is attached to the stump! Storage is as easy as catching a ball in a stump! Ball in a stump, ball in a stump, it's a ball in a stump! There was an NPC I remember talking to a while ago who was sad about her dead horse. I did almost the exact same thing yesterday - after finding some sweet loot, I ended up getting far targeted about about 3 guardians at the same time and had to do a bolt and glide over the moat to safety. I found sneaking into Hyrule Castle quite feasible. I didn't even have to use my AK (ancient arrows). I burned straight through two and a half full circles, quickly scarfed a meal giving me back one and a half, and tamed him almost immediately. So you probably need to be maxed out at three circles or thereabouts. But you can easily do it with top-ups. And oh my God is it worth it! I've taken a similar route in, via the outer wall, twice now and the chests I raided the first time didn't seem to be there when I returned. I could be wrong though. I don't often use the sprint on the horse but when crossing large fields or areas you've already been through it's useful. Rob Spoiler You won't ruin anything, once you beat him if you load you're outside the door with a star on your save file.
