My sidequest list is slowly getting out of hand so I've decided to actually do some before carrying on with the main quest.

I'm trying to do the Misako, The Great Bandit quest but I've literally no idea where to go - The hints you're giving make me think I need to be looking by Dueling Peaks but I'm probably completely wrong! Am I in the right area or way off the mark?

You're in the right area.

Spoiler

Look at the names on the map.

I didn't find an easy way to do Lost Woods but

I set a marker near the middle  of the entire forest and worked my way towards that (I still got hit by killer mist here and there but it helped)

It's easy when you know how. I loved the Lost Woods.

Played so long today (and barely made any progress come to think of it) that my joycon batteries completely depleted. Tried playing it in hand hold mode but just can't so it. Going from a 48inch screen to that is too difficult for my brain to handle, I immediately couldn't work out where I was and somehow forgot the buttons so had to save mid quest and exit. Anyone else struggle to play it that way? Hopefully I can get over it - or its just this game - else I'll be missing out on the key feature of the Switch.

Yeh, I definitely struggle in handheld mode as well. Playing it on a huge tele just feels so much better and epic to me. It's ok in handheld but the difference is jarring and also I don't like the sticks on the joycons as much as the pro controller and get pins and needles and cramp in my hands after holding for a while. Tried taking them off but then screen is all over the shop (if playing in bed), not so bad if propped up somewhere. Back to the tele it is.

Did you guys who couldn't do the lost woods not think it was quite suspicious that, in area which was clearly designed to make you follow a set path

that the first things you see are several lit torches with visible ash blowing in set directions? You did need a lit torch though, in my experience. The pre-lit ones weren't quite numerous or accurate enough for me to get through the whole thing.

I've decided that I'm only going to do Shrines in handheld mode when I'm travelling or playing at work during lunchtimes.

The rest of the game loses too much IMO when not playing on a big screen.

The shrines are perfect for that. You can discover them, to get them up on your map, and then fast-travel back to them when you're on the go to sweep them up.

I basically got 2 and 2 but instead of putting them together, bashed my head against a rock.

I didn't notice the ash, I thought I  need to light a torch, and that it would clear the resest mist or something.

I was looking for clues for the correct root thinking maybe in the branches of the trees or the shade of the grass but didn't consider the wind  [/spoiler ]

I think I must be getting old. My brain and reflexes are just not what they once were. The Ruta dungeon had me completely stumped for a while. After some hints from the internet, the boss then served me on a platter for a couple of hours. This is by far the hardest Zelda there has been. But the triumph, when it finally come, was euphoric. My Missus has never heard me swear like that. Good job she didn't hear me trying to battle the Lynel yesterday evening.

I was out most of the week so played little but got stuck in properly again today. I unlocked a few more towers and shrines and become a force to be reckoned with - major test of strength combat shrine completed without serous damage! It's so good, the log now shows 40 hours or more and I still only opened about half the map and have so much to do before even thinking of taking on the second beast.

I also attempted Eventide Island once, but unfortunately fucked things up by creating a ruckus that drew all the enemies to my location for a good pileup

How to do lost woods:

Spoiler

Follow the lanterns until they stop - the direction of the flame points towards the next checkpoint.

When the lanterns stop, take a lit torch and follow the direction of the flame - when you're running, the flame will be pushed behind you, so if you spot that it's going to one side, turn into it to correct.

It's a challenge, but I'm finding it a lot easier than Link's Awakening ^_^

I have only played in handheld mode. Haven't even unpacked the dock yet. So far working nicely but on the other hand I have nothing to compare with yet.

You can quickly dash back out of the reset mist after the effect starts but before it sends you back. I just followed that wall until I found a gap in it.

I did this.

I assumed there was probably a trick, clearly involving fire, but couldn't see it.
