I was talking about the five Shiekah Slate docking stations you need to find on the Elephant Divine Beast. What flummoxed me for so long was that I hadn't managed to get to the docking station that Spoiler unlocks the map and the elephant trunk controls , which is required to get the last two or three docking stations. Heading off to discover a memory, I believe it's the first one but I'd been there before when heading the "wrong" way somewhere. When there I'd been alerted to a shrine along the way through the ruined promenade but couldn't reach as I didn't know how to work a raft that was lying about that and couldn't get close enough to float there after crossing a broken bridge up the road. I remembered someone on here said there's always a leaf, so this time I look more thoroughly. There's definitely no leaf, and I forgot to get one first and there are no choppable trees Maybe I can get close enough to where I want to be if I can get across the nearside, a trickier and less obvious start but still quite doable. There's a Spoiler nice magic fireball weapon hidden where you have to cross, and I can indeed get far closer after making my way round so I leap off and float through the waterfall to the shrine. Which, after completing it, Spoiler I see I could have just walked up to, there's a bloody cave entrance at the side of the waterfall I'd not been able to pick out of the background from outside! And in hindsight, that's what was wanted and what was planned for me to try hence the reward of a weapon on the way as well. The raft was, if anything, almost a decoy of sorts. And that was the beginning. I was better equipped than last time, when I turned back, for the snowy area up the road so it's got to be worth a look. The change in atmosphere is drastic, cold, alone (mostly) with thick crunching snow, bleak, icy and ethereal. I plough on to the foothills realising as I encounter more resistance that I'm probably not that well equipped, and eventually resort to legging it with some occasional hiding. This time it was even all pretty much clearly pathed out so not much climbing unless I want to shortcut or stop aggro'ing everything. And then I reach the top, which is worth seeing. Spoiler The corrupted dragon spirit, the realisation that I was being asked to fire arrows at it, with the first thought being "er, is this a good idea?" but of course I did. Then Spoiler surprisingly off it goes, I follow it up to waste my most powerful arrows, having to chase it around over distances down the mountain I was balking at due to the effort I'd made climbing up but I couldn't not by then. Using the wind, getting elevation to reach, but the whole thing perfectly pitched. A definite sigh of relief where I ended up to finish it off, and had to hold back again when doing the final part, it didn't feel quite right as it was by then quite majestic. The most exhilarating thing so far, and after that I realised I could do with some more health, so back to some shrines. I'd tagged a shrine atop Dueling Peaks some time back and given I'd returned to grab a climbing item I'd missed from the shrine and to stable my horse for a bit, I thought I'd try it out and venture up. Have a look up, see where I fancy starting that's got places to stop off for a breather, have plenty of stamina items cooked already so off we go. And then, of course, it starts pissing down. Right, that's the direct assault on the east face out of the window. It'll only ever rain for a few minutes but I can head round the north east for an easier way up regardless and after inching up the first bit it turns out that it's relatively easy picking a path just to run up from there. That's one thing I've found about a lot of the mountainous bits, people have complained about rain and the climbing and it is irritating but you often don't even have to, yes you might have to take a long way round but that's fine, there's almost always stuff to do on the way. I found a Moblin camp for some fun, picked up a spare hammer and did some durability testing, scored a goal with a big boulder by an interesting looking couple of trees, found a few other Koroks and eventually found there were actually a couple of shrines up there. Enter the first, and the description of what needs to be done makes it fairly obvious Spoiler that I'm on the wrong side of the bloody mountain, twin shrines with nothing to do in this one bar study the pattern and then check the other out After that I need to get across the gap in the peaks to the other and prepare to make a similar journey up the other side. Except maybe I don't, I can see a couple of outcrops on the other side so there's at least a little rest even if there's not something like a Korok over there, who knows. There's a breeze going in that direction. It looks sheer above that but I've got probably enough stamina food, I didn't have to use any getting up here. Fuck it, I'm going straight up that way! The leap just gets me to the outctrop, recover there and climb to the next then and from there I'm up with the help of a speedup meal and a few stamina refreshes. It's a nice sight at the top, I can see Lanryu peak where I'd been the previous day and it looks an awful long way off, highlighting some of the scales given I know I've only touched a little bit of the map. Complete the shrine and pick up a weapon that gave me a little flutter because it's such a reminder of something Spoiler from Dark Souls, bringing back memories of my favourite the Uchigatana Finished there, I have a couple more shrines tagged north / northwest so I choose to descend that way, investigating as I go. Mine some crystals here and there, spot an out of place boulder that's probably a Korok as I float down to the next part. As it rises out of the ground and almost belts me off the plateau I realise it's not! But it's slow and mindless and due to earlier mining and hammer experimentation I can see how to kill it, just walk up to higher ground and float on top, then swing away with it dead in one or two full sets of power swings. Death! Gems! Hahaha! Latterly, I felt a bit sad about it because Spoiler it was named Stone Talus (Senior), at the time I thought I'd killed like an upgraded version but after having a much harder fight against a "normal" one I wonder if it was just a bit aged, past it and I'd celebrated murdering an old man version that'd probably been asleep up there out of the way for untold years Heavy rain starts once more as the sky darkens and I just stand there in the grass on a the edge of the cliff, watching the rain pour down and splash off me, surveying where I'm heading. No, I opened the door to the map pretty much right away (can't recall how) so wasn't an issue for me. Maybe spoiler the hint about trunk and controlling it being needed for the last three. Because almost everything about the landscape is significant in this game - it's one of the most symbolic landscapes in gaming.
